Awake, My Soul! (Lyric video)
This song was directly inspired and quoted from 2 Nephi 4:16-35. This prayer-like psalm that Nephi penned has always touched me as the real and relatable feelings of a struggling human soul who becomes aware of his true plight without the Atonement of Jesus Christ. I believe when one begins to be aware of Christ's intent and power to lift us from our challenges and heal us from our weakness, we begin to deeply relate to Nephi's words of inadequacy and praise that he offers to the Lord.

This song was seriously life changing for me. When the primary was learning it I couldn't stop crying and when I looked around I saw the other teachers were having the same 'problem'. I really needed this message of hope, courage and strength at this moment in my life and the children will now have it in their hearts when things get tough. Thank you!

Thank you for writing this beautiful song! Our oldest group of girls will be singing it this Sunday in the Primary Program. As they've practiced over the last several months, I've had people come and ask me "What is that amazing song we heard??" and the moms of the girls singing it report that their daughters choose to listen to it over some of their pop faves. I love the simple truths that are sung in each and every line -- God knows me, I was sent at the time He designed for a reason, I may be scared but can choose faith, I have gifts, etc etc. Thank you!! It's stunning!
PS -- I hope you submitted this for the future Children's Songbook --- these kinds of lovely songs need to replace some worn out ones!
When I first heard this song, it touched me to my very soul. Ester is one of my favorite hero’s and her strength has given me courage during very difficult and dark times in my life. This song is precious and beautifully written. Thank you for sharing your talents Shari. It truly inspires and reminds us how loved we are by our Father in Heaven.

What a nice arrangement! I particularly like the 6/8 vs. 3/4 and then the duple vs the triplets. There is both complexity and a gentle simplicity to the arrangement. I hope to see more UA-cam videos, and would love to see a little more for the ward choir...
