    Thinking of joining TRF, ive become a bit obsessed with Green Lanes after buying a KTM 390 Adventure but im not sure if its the wrong bike for these kind of groups. Most guys seem to be on far more dedicated off road mx and enduro bikes. Are there adventure bikes about? Mines set up to take a beating or too so im not afraid to take it anywhere really, as long as i wouldnt hold everyone up. But its 50/50 tyres are going to struggle on this stuff (i already have found that out).

  • @stuartmetcalfe547
    @stuartmetcalfe547 11 місяців тому

    Congratulations on the bike choice and welcome to the TRF if that's appropriate. Looks like you were out on a beginners plus ride, some lanes to challenge. Yes, in terms of bike the TRF will help you with advice on setting up, engine bars, loosening mirrors so they don't shear when you fall off or fitting folding mirrors. Tyres are, IMHO, the single greatest change you can make to an off tarmac machine. Have you had the TRF beginners guide to kit and sorted that out too? Couldn't see if you are using off road kit. Good protection, the "right" boots and more. Don't risk not using the right kit. Don't ask me how I know! Tools? Hydration? The folks with you seemed helpful and supportive. That's great. We were all first timers once. Well done you. Welcome and enjoy. Regards Stuart

      Understood. I'd just add that I rode with Trials Boots, had an accident, caused something called a LisFranc injury and fractured multiple bones in my foot and have a permanent disability as a result. I ride with Sidi Adventures now, second pair. First pair I ripped the sole off getting trapped under the bike on Wayfarers here in Mid Wales. So I'd recommend not taking the risk. I'd also recommend watching Bret Tacs teaching on UA-cam. I think he's brilliant. He teaches "toes in" as the spiral fracture is one of the most common injuries for those riding off tarmac. And it's fairly nasty. One of the lads who rides with us (and one of the better riders) did this and the helicopter had to be called. Ride safe, have loads of fun and take it step by step. The folks you rode with seemed really friendly and helpful and looked out for you. I hope you'll find the TRF friendly and helpful. Any questions just ask. Graeme Collins the CEO can put you in contact with me if you wish to chat about anything, Stuart Metcalfe. Cheers Stuart

      i have about 2,500 on my 2022 GSX-S750. the only performance MOD I have is a Coffman's Slip on exhaust. I put a passenger cowl on it, a set of crash bars, handlebar end mirrors, a tail tidy fender eliminator, and a wind shield. I get around 55MPG average. the bike tops out around 122MPH. seems to lose power after you get into 4th gear and hit high RPMs. it's an OK bike but it should be MUCH faster on the top end. these bikes ride great and handle awesome.

Not many around this area (east coast US). Have been convinced I need something bigger for munching miles but this has definitely made me rethink just keeping this bike and changing to the 15-tooth. 2900mile trip starting next week and another in the Fall. Thanks for your kind words. Sadly yesterday I part exchanged the bike for a more powerful GSX S 750. Where I live (Wales, next to England) is very hilly and the bike simply doesn't have enough power for the motorways. Our speed limit is 70mph but nobody does that so I was being passed by everyone. Even with the sprocket change is was still struggling with motorway speeds. She has gone now but she did me well for 3 months. I hope you enjoy your trk and you will definitely enjoy the difference the sprocket makes. Safe riding brother 🤟

      @Michael Parkinson that's great to hear mate. Sadly I didn't like the way it sounded at those speeds. It used to sit at 85mph yes but no power to go much faster or overtake in a rush. My new bike has masses of power and pulls like a train compared to the trk. Also I didn't realise just how bad the brakes were until I got on the gsx. I fully appreciate you are happy with your trk and so was I for the first 3 months of riding. I then wanted something more fun, more suitable for me with less worry about reliability. Glad to hear you are enjoying yours so much and thanks for the comments. Safe riding mate.

Owned fireblades and Hayabusa, and still got frustrated with heavy traffic, and shit roads. I’m buying a TRK for commuting, it will fit my needs perfectly, and will give the Triumph Trophy a nice rest :) You did very well keeping pace, at least you can ride the shit out of the TRK and have great fun,!
