    It’s cool to see bass in there I was thinking would you even need a license to fish in there.

      @Casitascrawlers Yeah, there're good fish in there! I think you need a license to fish any water in CA, except for pier fishing. If I remember correctly, there are two days in the year when you don't need a license, the 'Free Fishing Days'.

    Thanks for sharing these adventures. So great to see the action in LA. Are you wearing full waders deep in the water here?

    • @Astrofishicist
      @Astrofishicist 6 днів тому

      @lam_bui Thanks so much for the comment, it made my day! Yes, I wore full waders to fish that water. I came fully prepared to wet wade the creek but after some brief contemplation, it turned out I wasn't brave enough and I switched to full waders. On extremely hot days like today, wet wading might be the better option, though, if one feels safe enough to do so.

      @@Astrofishicist thanks for the kind and helpful reply! I have always thought about getting into these LA creek/rivers, but always worry about how clean they are. Maybe I will just get some waders to be safe. I am from NorCal, but come down to LA often. I recognize some of the water in your videos, so I hope to run into you one day on the water and share stories.

      @lam_bui I'm sure most of the small creeks and streams around here are safe to wet wade. And yes, bring waders and enjoy the fishing. If you see me, please feel free stop to say hello. I'd be happy to share stories!

      @DrDitchpickle Thank you! Yeah, I love catching carp, especially on a lighter rod. I usually use 4x tippet, but on occasion go up to 3x when I specifically target larger fish, like carp. Haha, yes, those tiny bass may take the title away from you. LOL

    in your experience, Between the Maxcatch Eco and the Aventic CM, which one would you buy?

    • @Astrofishicist
      @Astrofishicist 14 днів тому

      @lucasgp8904 Hi, if the choice is between those two reels, I would get the Aventik CM because it costs slightly less than the ECO and, in my opinion, is the better reel. Also, I own both and much prefer the Aventik CM. Keep in mind that for most cases of fly fishing, the reel is to only hold the line, nothing more. You strip the fish in and let the tip of the rod protect your tippet. That being said, for those cases both of these reels are fine, I just think the Aventik is slightly better in terms of quality and looks, with the exception of the super small drag adjustment knob. But it works as intended. Now, if you plan to target larger fish, for instance carp, then you would benefit from a proper drag system to further protect your tippet and prevent the fish from breaking off. I had problems with the drag on the ECO before while the drag on the Aventik worked just fine after I had it dialed in. Keep in mind that these are entry level budget reels, so you can't expect too much. Lastly, if you have more questions, don't be afraid to reach out. I'd be happy to help you with your fly fishing needs. Cheers!

      @Astrofishicist 14 днів тому

      @BestWesternGlendale Hi, thank you! I'm always curious about how my videos are received. Anyhow, I believe most of the fish in this particular video are caught on a hare's ear nymph, which I tend to fish more like a streamer. I believe I also used a prince nymph with rubber legs tied in and a baitfish pattern streamer, but I will check tomorrow and try to give you a more precise list. Keep in mind, not all flies work year-round, so I tend to fish certain flies based on seasonal preference. Cheers!

    I would recommend a spinning reel when fishing for bass because that 2 pounder fought like a 7 pounder when you could of caught more fish in the time you’re were fighting that one

    • @Astrofishicist
      @Astrofishicist 14 днів тому

      Thank you. This short is from a video I made to test this particular fly reel you see in the clip. Also, I've never seen anyone put a spinning reel on a fly rod. Not even sure how that would work in terms of balancing the setup. Lastly, this is a fly fishing channel, so in all likelihood I will keep using my fly reels. I appreciate your suggestion, though. Cheers!

      @hirudomedicinalis I agree, give it a shot. Hopefully you'll love it. There are plenty in the water and they're fun to catch, especially when they bite non-stop. Plus, pound for pound, bluegill may arguably be the best fighting freshwater fish and even the smaller ones give you a nice bend in a light-weight rod!

      @louis-trinh Yeah, I caught a decent one the other day, which you can see in the video I put up yesterday about the super cheap budget reel. It's somewhere around the 7:20 mark and I put chapters in there , so you can skip all my yapping and go straight to the fishing (I figure that's what most people want to see). Keep in mind, it's a small, shallow creek and they don't get that large in there, so anything around 15 inches you can consider a trophy size.

      @ronibarrondo3288 Hi, It entirely depends on the season, but here are some of my best flies for the summer: - Prince Nymph - Hare's Ear (in color black or olive) - Muddler Minnow - Small Foam Poppers (for topwater) - Woolly Bugger (color olive) - Squirmy Wormy (should produce results year-round) You can see me use all these flies in the video. Hope that helps. Cheers! :)

    • @Astrofishicist

      @AndresRodriguez-km7fe No, I did not see the carp as the water clarity was poor. However, I did notice the bubbles the fish was steering up, presumably from searching the bottom for food, so I let the woolly bugger slowly drift across the feeding area.
