Wipe-on clear coat FAIL! Don't ruin what you have!

Wipe-on Patina. Lots of folks are marketing it. One company specifically markets it as a remedy for peeling and damaged clear coats. So, we tried it on a 1998 Silverado with peeling and damaged clear coat. Not the worst we've seen, but needing some love. DO NOT TRY THIS until you watch this video. Sometimes things are too good to be true! #freedom #patina #productreview

We tried science to clean rust from a fuel tank. Do or die attempt!
Переглядів 762 місяці тому
The fuel tank gets dropped back out of the 1962 Binder pickup because the fuel starvation issues persist. We've already tried the physical rust removal but apparently that ain't enough. So let's give science a try at it and if that doesn't work you might get to watch us install a fancy new fuel tank at the end of this one. Odds... the typical roller coaster as we battle this rusty tank! #freedo...

    Hi! My name is Tom. You don't have an 8N or a 9NFord but a 2N even though it 's serial number starts with 9n????. Henry Ford was a sharp business man. The war board froze the 1941 year models prices on all tractors for the duration of the war as well as limiting the total numbers to be made. That is why the 9n and 2n were so close to the same but just enough different so Ford could increase the price. Then in 1947 the 48 models came out with for speed trans, both brakes on the right side, draft/posision control hydraulics and running boards from the factory. The war years also had aluminum dashes grills since steel was needed for guns, tanks etc. As for the plumbing on the right side of the trans; if you used two heavy angle irons from the drawbar to the center of the three point hitch you can use the three point hitch lever with a one way cylinder to raise a mowers or other light equipment. To test the hydraulic system pump all you have to do is put the lift lever in the raised position and use a philips screwdriver in the pto shaft hole to rock the shaft back and forth one half of a turn it should raise the arm slowly. Tom.

    Some original outer seals had a lip for the “dust” cover to grip. Your kit eliminated this. 1955 service manual said it would catch drips. Had a repro one rot out in a year but the people who made your kit did not make good saying ATF damaged it. So I got a big fernco from plumbing supply, trimmed it and used large hose clamps to catch drips. Loosen the front one to drain the ATF occasionally. Been there for 18 years and 25k miles. Got the kit you used but never installed it.

    I would imagine kissed by the piston rather than warping. If the motor got that hot all the metal would contort. Its more likely that because of the extra heat in the cylinder head the valve shaft got tight in the valve guide and was slowed to the point where i came in slight contact with the piston.

    Again, thank you for comments, after ran a little: comp readings: 105, 73, 45, 102. Can I try in those options 1, tighten head bolts, hope stop leaks 2. using head gasket restore fluid; 3. use gasket maker on existing gasket, as there is no water in cylinders; 4. new gasket .

    • @freedom1garage
      @freedom1garage 20 днів тому

      @@dalepeter3016 you could have a failure between 2 and 3. Compression moving back and forth in the now shared space. I would shy away from the “fix in a bottle. It’s easy enough to pop the head off and have a lookie. If it is the gasket your numbers should improve and life would be happy. If you see scratches or glazing in the cylinders and no sign of gasket failure then it’s time to think about pulling pistons and loving up the cylinders.

      @@freedom1garage Good advices. Re-horn tugs and new rings will be a long term fix for sure. I had success on a V8 350 marine engine, 120-40 psi, ran poorly, after a bottle of Engine Restore, all read 140 lbs, very surprised with the results, it still run very well a year later. Thanks so much for sharing your experience in detail. I was pretty sure just from the title of the video what the primary issue was. I had some similar struggles with those types of products. My truck is at least 1/3 bare metal. As such, I need to protect it from moisture. Over the past couple of years I've had to sand off surface rust and re-apply a wipe on coating at least 4 times. The 1st 3 times I used something that was ready to go, no mixing. This last go round, I used that same product AND a 2 part coating. For my situation, the primary problem has been contamination on the metal, causing it to flash rust. Each time that I've had to re-apply has been a learning experience. 1) Those wipe on pads are the worst! I don't understand why they include those in the kit or why any company selling a similar product would recommend any type of cotton cloth. Last year, I discovered that a new, dry, "streak free" glass cleaner wipe leaves behind little to no lint. I also noticed a bit of a smoother finish. It doesn't do any good to start with a super, super clean surface just to end up with fuzz left behind from whatever you use to apply a coating. 2) temp and humidity are a factor for sure. Especially over bare metal. That stuff will trap the moisture from the air. 3) As to the pot life and working time of the 2 part product, I used half the amount of activator. It was quite a bit easier to work with. The downside to that is that over time, it may not be as durable. Idk. What I do know is that after almost a year (and minimal exposure to rain and snow), this last application has held up well.

    • @freedom1garage
      @freedom1garage 22 дні тому

      You're correct, a change in mixture ratio should stop the immediate flash off, but I'd rather just have a less aggressive catalyst. As far as applicators go, a tightly folded microfiber would work better... heck anything would have worked better! Thanks for watching and sharing your experience!
