Welcome to Indigenous Art & Culture
Art is central to the cultural identity, place and belonging of First Nations people and is part of the fabric of First Nations cultures and history. Much of it here is used to tell Australia’s stories from an indigenous perspective and preserve them for future generations. It is also used as an expression of contemporary life and culture among First Nations peoples and the ongoing effects of cultural disruption and distress caused by colonization and includes people of other first nations groups and lands.

Why is it the focus is always the nefarious vitriol of perpetual blame and complete disregard of constructive poetry addressing isssues such as substance abuse, domestiic violence, intervention from family welfare agencies and incarceration rates? It is opaque at best to not look at the problems facing aboriginals without a clear, heartening and transparent perspective. It may be uncomfortable to work on personal matters, however, simply lambasting White Colonialists as the root cause of ills is a defeatist and divisive prerogative.
I'm American now becoming Australian citizen. I love history. This book is wonderful. I've been telling my Australian friends of this. Thank you.

Where exactly is Gordon Syron’s Keeping Place? Can we go and see his collection?
Gordon and Elaine are currently seeking a new permanent home for the works. Part of the collection is in Lismore and part in Canberra. The Cooee Art Gallery in Paddington have a small collection of artworks and the Mum Shirl painting we have in our offices in Bondi Junction. In spite of all the promises from very well placed people, nothing has come to fruition yet regarding housing the complete works for public display in one location. Thank you. Barry Ion
