A Moody Live Patch | Patches & Racks
This is something a bit different. While experimenting with some live patching, I came across a cool way to transform a patch from a soft floating vibe into something darker, harsher and moody. Luckily I recorded it!
For this patch, I'm feeding an oscillator into Mutable Instruments Rings and using it as a proper resonator, which is fed into the FX AID XL (on shimmer mode). Modulating the brightness parameter of Rings is what gets you that harsher sound. The patch takes a turn around the 2:49 mark.
Do enjoy the patch and leave a comment/criticism below!

Ambient Generative No. 5 ft. Pluck, Rings, Tides | Patches & Racks

SUBSCRIBE FOR MORE AMBIENT EURORACK VIDEOS! This is the fifth video in my Ambient Generative series. Like previous videos in this series, I wanted to let this one evolve a bit more without interfering with it. The patch uses two voices which really drive the sound: Mutable Instruments Rings and 2HP Pluck. The ebb and flow of these voices is modulated by Mutable Instruments Veils, and this is re...
Mystery Ambient Patch! Can You Guess the Modules?

It's time to test your ears and your Eurorack knowledge! Can you guess what modules I'm using in this ambient patch? For this video, I wanted to change things up a bit. Instead of my usual detailed patch notes, I decided to put you all to the test! The game is simple, see if you can guess which modules I'm using. Jamuary 2023 - Exploring Delays with FX Aid XL | Patches & Racks
Переглядів 201Рік тому
Happy Jamuary everyone! This year for Jamuary, I've decided to do a little series on the FX Aid XL, a module that is quickly becoming one of my favorites! In this quick patch, I'm taking a look at a delay mode of the FX Aid XL, specifically the "Delay Pitch Shift" mode. I'm taking audio from uPlaits and extracting two voices (filtered bands) from it using Pentatones. One of the voices is passed...

Well...a lot has happened during my hiatus from UA-cam. In particular, a few rack additions that I had teased before: Mutable Instruments Veils and Happy Nerding FX AID XL. For my return, I wanted to showcase these two modules as well as some studying that I've been doing with uPlaits. Pretty straightforward patch, uPlaits receiving random triggers and quantized voltages from the 123ADC and 2HP...
Noise into Mutable Instruments Rings (Live Improv) | Patches & Racks Live

For a long time, I've wanted to film a "live improv" Eurorack video. Just letting the camera roll while I mess around with the Keystep and a pre-wired patch. Finally I gave it a shot and here's the result. In terms of patching, its straight-forward: noise from the Disting mk2 into Mutable Instruments Rings and CV from the Keystep. To keep it all melodic, 2HP Tune quantizes the Keystep CV first ...

Why Mutable Instruments Rings is AWESOME for Ambient | Patches & Racks

    Wait a minute... So Pluck is doing all the sounds in the video? How is it making a background and then plucking on top of it?

    • @UnclePeter
      @UnclePeter Рік тому

      Technically yes, Pluck is the only voice of the patch. Clouds takes the sound from Pluck and adds reverb to it, which helps generate the background that's then plucked on top of. Also, if your decay parameter is "long" enough on Pluck, you can trigger ("strum") it, then send it different notes while its ringing out. The best analogy I give for this goes back to Guitar Hero; remember how you could strum once then hit multiple notes? That's pretty much what's going on here.

    Is it as useful as rings?

    • @UnclePeter
      @UnclePeter 2 роки тому

      It's very hard to compare the two, imo. Rings is a beast and has many sounds, but is a pricier module (well worth it tho). Pluck is a single sound, but a very very good one. In terms of usefulness, Rings can do more. But for the price of Pluck (keep in mind that on the used market, they are practically a steal), there's no reason not to have one. I'd say they have more/less the same price-to-performance ratio and both carry a ton of respect in the modular synth world. I'd say get both if you can lol! Also, Pluck is only 2HP of space, packs a lot of punch, if you're concerned with space-saving. Sorry if that's not helpful, but its my honest opinion of them.

    Just curious, does anyone else out there "play the timeline" like an instrument in ambient stuff like this, or is that just me? What I mean is that I make a "meta song" by playing different points of the video by clicking at spots on the timeline. God, as I write this I feel ridiculous, but at the same time there's got to be at least one other person out there that does this, right?

    • @UnclePeter
      @UnclePeter 2 роки тому

      That's a very interesting idea! I've never done it as a "song" but many times I click across the timeline of my longer ambient videos to see how the sounds evolve/change over time.

    • @jasonbalicki7948
      @jasonbalicki7948 2 роки тому

      @@UnclePeter That's exactly how it started with me. I'd want to "cheat" and see where it was going. Then I'd notice that there were bits that were "the same" (or very similar) at different points in the timeline. That lead to me thinking of the space between those points as "octaves" and you can probably see where it went from there. I can fall back on the "same" bits like a I chord. For example, in your video 3:49 and 8:08 (ha) seem like the "root". Man, I feel like a crazy person.
