American Samoa Deep CRES Years 1 & 2; Deployment and recovery of science equipment between 40-100m.
Переглядів 6267 місяців тому
We are investigating American Samoa’s mesophotic coral ecosystems (40-100 meters or ~130-330 feet deep) to better understand them and their relationship to shallower reefs. Nearly 80 percent of coral reef habitat in American Samoa exists at mesophotic depths, yet these reefs remain relatively unknown. Understanding what species exist and their habitat preferences at mesophotic depths will help ...

Yesterday was the final dive (for most of us) of this expedition in support of the NOAA Deep CRES American Samoa project. We made one final exploratory dive to 100m (328ft) and found an incredible drop-off at Fagalua (Larsen Bay) within the NOAA National Marine Sanctuary of American Samoa which I cannot wait to explore more, but that will have to wait until next year... "The End of an Atoll"; Papatua Guyot (South Bank), 40 miles south of Tutuila, American Samoa.
Переглядів 2149 місяців тому
Two days ago we took advantage of unbelievably good weather to venture 40 miles south of Tutuila. Papatua Guyot (South Bank) is a drowned atoll (85ft. deep at the shallowest), who's corals either could not keep up with sea level rise in the past, or it subsided too quickly. We maxed out at a depth of 60m (200ft.) on a gentle slope that would be an algae nerd's dream. Though not super fishy, we ...

I was so stressed out by you dropping it and stuff before realizing it was a joke xD very pretty toy of a coelacanth!
Haters will say its fake
Way to go tiger! Consume, devour that garbage plus trash. Tiger sharks . . . nature's marine trash compactors.

Such a gorgeous turtle i had no idea
is real
I saw a Dory in the Baltimore Aquarium on my field trip. :)
Can I use your video screenshots?
I'd have the same reaction. Its like seeing an ancient distant uncle that said "nah, I'm hanging back for a minute."
I laughed and had a great time seeing the work you were doing. Crazy how you just realize a fish is a new species.
That is so rare there’s only two in the whole world 😱
Leave this endangered fish species alone although they are fake its good to let this ancient fishes/dino fishes alone in the sea
Hungry shark evolution had reason, tiger sharks can eat pufferfishes 😂
Pyro??????
They are my favorite shark 🦈
It ain’t even April fools buddy
Unbelievably clear imagery, amazing! More please and thank you.
@@penndunaway thanks!
whos noises were those
I saw in the start that there's a butterfly fish with a mutation
Watching all your stuff with great excitement. I'm always wondering, how you guys can go to 100+ m with only 1 bailout tank. Do you have more tanks somwhere stationary or do support divers carry them for you? When I go to 100m CC, I have to take 4 (!)BO tanks with me. Like 14/70--20/55--50/15--O2. All the best from Switzerland.
We stash a trail of BO tanks on the reef slope on the way down, then pick them up on the way up.
You're so lucky
Yet another beautiful film, thanks for sharing, Brian.
Amazing video, what an incredible place. Is the flow really as calm as it seems in the clip where the C. ventralis was filmed?
Why do you have to put that into the water? You can make more rubbish beans and put all the rubbish in it instead of killing these poor creatures by littering in the oceans.
You capture these in a submersible or a drone right?
@@Squidward_Tikiland no, while diving.
That shark has alot in common with humans. It likes junk food😂
The trash can of the sea meets the trash can of the land 😂🗑🦈

ah i have found a cultured man among the sea of people commenting this video is fake that being said P Y R O N O I S E S
Garbage can meets garbage can of the sea

These fish had been thoufht to have gone extinct but until you saw it. There still might be more out thetr
This is a fantastic being.
There's a reason they're often called "the ocean's garbage disposal"
That creature literally can eat anything in front of it its an apex predator do not tell me its. Safe to swim in their territory it will always be not .
Hello! Where in SOlomon?
Theres a spear fisherman whos catches keep getting eaten by groupers and you can hear his rage through the snorkle and its hilarious
Poor sharks… that’s awful that ppl Kill every animals and fishes. We always killed more than 70% of all animals on the planet!!!
Two Kennys.
Bull sharks have biting power with 1500 psi which more than tiger sharks mine, but overall tiger sharks have advantage with 700-900 kg wight and strong teeth can crush turtle shells even with 600 psi. No wonder bull sharks avoid them.
Holl holy shit
