A Wide Angle Cinema Lens That's Actually Affordable
Today I'm talking about Sirui's 16mm Nightwalker lens. A wide angle cinema lens with a fast T1.2 aperture that's actually affordable.... but is it any good?

Horses for courses. I had a few manual Nikkors left over from film days and thought it would great to use them again on digital, so I bought the D700, being full frame I could have a fisheye as a fisheye and my 20mm would still be, well, a 20mm. You get the idea; none of this cropping nonsense. However, in two words: a noisy brick. Ho, hum …
Hi, How do you operate a zoom with a pancake lens?
To be fair most Nikon camera have this mazing film like quality. I use a D90 and boy it was a joy to use
What was your colour grading process with the EOS m, just bought one for 160€ would like to know some tipps ❤
You are ready for a Df, the most filmic camera for me, remain me my beloved F3 or FE2.
Congratulations man!
i have a D60 and a D80, i think both with the same sensor. D60 i have put for sale for 45$ and nobody buys :)) D80, although a bit older, i'm using often, thanks to its in-body autofocus motor.
I'm working on the setup on this. I just found a cage for it so that I can mount a battery. This camera is a challenge, but the footage from it is amazing.
Wow, split prism viewfinder for an older DSLR. hadn't really thought about that but I love the idea. The D200 does have some colour magic going on. Not sure I totally buy into the CCD mythos - my D700 has some similar pixie dust, even with its CMOS sensor.
Hi Oliver, I wrote this on an older video of yours. I wasn't sure if you saw my comment hence putting it on this one. Very interesting videos about older cameras. I am interested in the settings you use for the Nikon, Canon and Olympus ie profiles photo style saturation for all 3 cameras. Perhaps a video on these as well would be great for settings. Also is The Nikon D200 the only camera that maps the lens and focus like The D200 Thanks Matt
Hey, sorry I must’ve missed your original comment. My color setting for each camera don’t really matter too much to me since I’m usually shooting in RAW. I’m just using the color profiles to get a balanced look for reviewing my images in camera. For Nikon I use the neutral color profile, for canon I use standard and for Olympus I also use neutral. Someone told me recently that the old Pentax dslrs are also able to map the lens to the camera, but personally I’ve not used one before so can’t verify, hope that helps!
@oliverkeyscine Hi Oliver, Thank you so much for getting back to me. Great information. I love the idea of using older lenses on Nikon DSLR cameras. I will try and check which models you can map with as Im not sure if they all do it the same way as the D200. Interested if you have any thoughts about this too. Thanks again mate. Matt

D90 & D200 are from the same era - both were awesome machines
Great work all around!
I bought the D700 in 2011 and 13 years later some of my best photos were taken with this camera.
Still use it?
Beautiful color grading
@@theowlfromduolingo7982 thank you!!!🙏
I don't need this camera ( I have Canon R7 it works fine for now and actually saving money for C80) BUT I want it. This camera is so special and it is hard to replicate this look and I hope I will find one for me 😁
Nice shots. Very nice video.
Would be interesting to see you do a video on why you have this camera and the bmpc og and didn’t go for a m4/3 version of this lens instead 🤔
It would be wonderful if both of these cameras got and upgrade. I know there's the pocket 4k and 6k, but those cameras aren't at all an extension of the spirit of the BMPCC OG. I would love a BMPCC II that sticks to its original size but with better battery and subtle IBIS. And a weather sealed GX80 with 10 bit log would also be incredible.
Will you be making a video on the EOS M?
Which S5 did you use in the footage? Didn't use the bmpcc og yet?
@@jimmyzjam the original S5, I got the lens in L mount and don’t have an adapter for the Bmpcc. It would be interesting to try it tho!
The BMPCC OG has a crop factor of 3x. That would make this lens equivalent to 48mm, which is a normal focal length and no longer wide angle.
looks beautiful!
You should try out the Fujifilm S5 Pro. D200 body with Fuji processing etc. It's a bit different in usage but pretty awesome!
How did you go about developing the film profile? Is it a LUT? I had an idea of creating a LUT in DaVinci Resolve as a profile for Lightroom but I'm not sure if it will work...
I've got the D300S with 35-70mm Nikkor lens. Takes awesome photos. I prefer older Nikons
I've seen that lens at my local thrift store for about £30. always wondered whether I should give it a shot...
@@oliverkeyscine35-70mm Nikkor 3.3/4.5 is a great lens also great coverage. Definitely worth a buy
Who has ever used the white balance button?
Why large sensor and low megapixel count?
I pulled out my D200 from a 10 year winter sleep. Started finally using all my old gear again ... and suddenly some admired back in the day lenses can be purchased much cheaper and easily 2-hand used... :) So I finally got myself the wide angle lens I had dreamed of in the past but prefered to get a sony rx 100 II instead to have a smaller but capable camera. Plus a cheap sigma telephoto 70-300 zoom lens. And damn smacked some old 10x magnifier glass onto my nikkor 50mm/1.8 and did some macro fun. So much stuff to still learn/explore/master... incredible. The only major downside for me is always the freaking poor low light abilities of that CCD ... I so wish that could be fixed somehow :/ because that camera is just awesome besides that point. It is always a hassle and pain. I mean you have to much work harder to a get a decent shot when difficult situations appear. I am not saying it's impossible but low light situations are really tough to handle with a D200. Happy shooting
Funny enough, I switched from the BMPCC to the GX85 a few years back, and I just finally ditched my gx85 after almost 5 years, it was living as my stream/overhead cam and the lack of continuous AF was just too annoying to continue using. If lumix dropped the gx80/gx85 again but just added the phase detect autofocus it would be a no-brainer pocket camera. I do really miss the BMPCC OG, but the difficulty in finding cards that actually work with it and the literal 15 minute battery life are just too much to deal with.
The last camera of Nikon that convinced me in Photo quality. The D700 that followed was mainstream better, but did not provide me with the atmosphere in the pictures out of the camera. My current Leica M11 only creates a similarly relevant but utterly different vibe, basically created mainly by the f1.2 noctilux attached. So all in all, my perspective is if you‘re not into night photography, get a D200 or a Leica M9 and apply the lens with the target character you want to achieve out of camera. If you need all variety, excluding Video: D700, Leica M10. But in the end, shoot film on any professional camera that suits you and chose well your optical character by choosing the right lens. Don‘t scan. Do a darkroom print! And use your smartphone of whatever product for the flexibility you‘re looking for in mainstream expectations.
If you want your photos to look like film, then why not use, you know, like, FILM?
another great video, thanks! would u mind sharing ur settings for best image on the gx80?
Thanks for the mini comparison. What do you mean by "organic" look? Can't the GX80 or for that matter, any other m43 cameras on which you can shoot in log produce that kind of image? If you could describe what makes the image different, that would be great. Loved your chilled out style and the color grading too. Looking forward to see more from you.
Thanks! Yer organic is quite a vague term so apologies. Mainly I mean the colours are very deep and rich but not overly saturated. The roll of between the midtones and the highlights is really smooth and their isnt too much processing on edge details.. I find that distracting with more basic codecs
@ Ah, I understand what you’re saying better now. Especially regarding the midtones to highlights roll-off. I’m a photographer, so I can relate. Thanks for the explanation and please keep making great videos like this!
hi. how does the z5 or z50 compare?
Love the idea of a "pocket video camera" looking at the S9 to match my S5iiX - really want these cameras though... The XM5 is a Ricoh and a pocket camera in one ... Love your videos man
S9 definitely seems intriguing with that full frame sensor! Thanks for sharing!!
@oliverkeyscine dude... The black Friday deal is £1k with kit lens and £275 off a lens. Maaaad.
Thank you Oliver, it is a lovely comparison of two cameras I own and cherrish. I think what sets them apart from the likes of Sony or Fuji aside from the sensor size, are the prizes. I bought my GX80 last year new for 250,- Euros open box and my BMPCC for roughly 400,- new, back when it was still available. In terms of sensor size though I`d disagree, the Blackmagic has a 1" sensor around 116 square millimeters in size, the Panasonic is about 225, so almost twice as big. Also I`d say battery life is something that sets them apart, if you want to keep the BM pocketable and film for longer than five minutes, you have to bring extra betteries. Enjoyed the video, keep up the good work.
Oh, and your buttery smooth voice is Pure Gold, also, my Bro, haha. 👍🏾👍🏾 I'm sure you've had folks suggest you do ASMR videos. 😄 Thanks again for the Great Content.
Have them both in my camera bag as a perfect, run&gun complementary set haha Great comparison!
I love them both so much. Thanks for sharing.
We need plugin or LUTs for FCPX please
Oliver, great video. What are your settings in the D200 under the color profiles?
Nice summary. I have the OG BMPCC and BMMCC and GX85 and they're all so different to work with in practice. I've worked out how to make the GX85 image roughly resemble the BM cameras in post but the significantly increased DR of the BM cameras is definitely the main difference for me.
Great video man ! Fellow BMPCC OG owner here.. Question for you though, regarding the photo at 4:31.. Obvs taken on the Lumix but, w/ a preset ?
