One Word GLF
Local Band Cover
"One Word" by the Mahavishnu Orchestra-1975
Here is the last recorded gig from "Grace L. Ferguson" band (my college band). This was recorded in May of 1975 at a club called 117 South Main in Blacksburg VA. This is an attempt at a Mahavishnu Orchestra song called "One Word". Mike Gosey on guitar, Mike Brown on second guitar, Stan Smith on the Fender Rhoads piano, Baxley Poe on bass (killer solo from him) and myself, Estel, on drums. Some of the pictures include earlier members: Pat Carpenito on bass and Clift Mitchell on guitar. I cannot believe that this is 46 years ago! I hope you enjoy it!!

Wow, what great piece of Musical history, loved Weather Report from the first day I heard them. Changed my musical appreciation of Contemporary/ World Jazz overnight. Waddaguy, and all who was associated to progressive jazz and their creative influence. Still thrill at all the content and their contribution over 40 plus years!

This eventually became Corner Pocket, unless I'm mistaken.

As a bassist, it was Joe for me in WR. I could tell the dude was a genius. He reminded me of one of my Italian uncles.

Which weather report piece did the first one become? Sick rythm
This is an extraordinary find. What a beautiful afternoon.
AMAZING!!!!!!!!
Just hit on this and don't even know how. I was born in Roanoke (1951) and lived there during my formative years. Can't wait to see this!!!
1:48 which side is the emulsion side? The top or bottom? Edit- Found info- To tell the difference between the two sides of a slide, one can angle the slide with a light overhead and see that one side is very shiny and acts like a mirror, while the opposite side is dull and is the emulsion side.
Thank you so much Mr. Zawinul!
Back when life was great.
4:53 name of the song?
It became Corner Pocket on the Sportin' Life album.
This is a wonderful incredible gift to all of us who are still deeply influenced by Joe Zawinul ...thanks so much for putting it up here!
I got to see her twice and am FB friends. She is Amazing!
3:25
I know this is an older video posting, but I have to mention...if you dig what Zawinul is doing here...I'm almost certain the music he's playing is a lead up to his absolutely amazing ''Dialects" album, released in 1986. Do yourself a favor and go buy it!
Joe Zawinul. The funkiest Austrian of all time.
Stumbled across this video - thanks for posting as I was there in 1985 with a group of friends and the memories will last forever! If someone puts a 1985 reunion together, I'm in - LOL
Excellent stuff. You can always tell the real thing. Someone whose life is dominated by the need to create to the exclusion of all the other nonsense of daily life. Joe was one of them. A real mensch!
Call them about your whach
Strange to think that at least one person in every clip of this video is dead today. Sad.
