JAMES BOND HAS TO PULL OUT
#jamesbond #007 #rogermoore #thespywholovedme #1977
This is The Spy Who Loved Me, the first James Bond movie I ever saw. It was in 1977 and I had just got 12 years old. Since it was the first Bond movie I ever saw, of course, it has always been my favorite Bond movie. And lucky me, most bondfans see The Spy Who Loved Me as one of the best Bond movies in the entire series.
Especially this opening sequence of course is magnificent. Apart from some questionable special effects in which we see a close-up of Roger Moore, obviously in a studio with a snowy screen behind him... But apart from that, this is top level stunt work in one of the best action sequences in the entire series.
But there is another thing I would like to address, which is the joke at the beginning of this scene. "Moneypenny, where is 007? He is on a mission sir, in Austria. Well tell him to pull out". And then we see Bond making love to beautiful woman.
I don't want to get to deep into this joke, but when I was 12 years old, I didn't really get this joke. The question is if jokes like these are still 'allowed' today in this series. Times have changed since 1977. What might have looked like a rather innocent and by Bond standards even 'subtle' joke in 1977, imagine that, is now seen in a totally different light.
I think I am going watch the next Bond movie, if it ever will be released, very carefully regarding the jokes. I really would love to analyze how the jokes in the new Bond movie, that I hope will be released in 2025, will compare to the jokes of 1977. But for now, I think I will give The Spy Who Loved Me another rewatch. Because it's so great...
