After a couple days in the high 90s we were treated to a big ol' late-summer storm. Music by me. It sat in a folder for a long time, titled "lightning in a bottle". glad I finally found something to do with it.

What's Under the DPR Trail Ice Floes?

These ice floes formed because the of the 66 degree temperature change. The river swelled with meltwater, carved itself some headroom out of the ice pack, then receded as it drained downstream. This left behind 4" sheets of ice suspended 1-2' above the bank. I thought this was worth sharing. Winter is very different now. Do Racoons eat meat?
Yes! Even though they are opportunistic omnivores, raccoons are in the order Carnivora! It’s tempting to think of them as rodents because they are cute and cuddly and hang out in the trash like rats, but they are actually more closely related to badgers and weasels (Mustelids)!
