Conversations with Commodores ... Dare Odeyingbo
Dare was a force for the Black and Gold 2015-2018 playing for Coach Mason. Playing alongside younger brother Dayo for few seasons, the Odeyingbo brothers were tough on the defense. Having prepped at Cistercian Prep in Irving, Texas, Dare was a multi-sport athlete, including amassing 5,456 rushing yards and 74 total TDs during four-year varsity career. After Vanderbilt, Dare went undrafted in the NFL Draft, but signed with the Buccaneers and Bengals before calling it a career. Currently, he is the Assistant Director to the Annual Fund at Portsmouth Abbey School in Rhode Island. Dare shared such an interesting journey!

1981 Northview Cougars (Dothan, AL) Season Tribute.
Переглядів 613 місяці тому
Just in its fourth year as a school, the Northview football program sought to establish itself in the Wiregrass amongst very tough rival schools. Coach Harry Wayne Parrish and his young coaching staff knew they had a lot of talent on the team, but weren’t sure how well they would respond to the challenges ahead. Coming off a 7-3 season in 1980, the pre-season 8th ranked Cougars were looking to ...

May Book Discussion - Strong Inside with Andrew Maraniss
Love her!!! She's such a great actress.
This makes me feel old. I went to school and ran track with Mark Webb, and his father coached me in football and track and was my math teacher in the early 1970s. Mark is retired as long time athletics' director at Sewanee. Where have the years gone?
I just busted a McNutt in her
Smokey Stover played high school football and Huntsville Alabama. He was the father of one of my Alpha Tau Omega fraternity brothers I think the comment he was a long trainer at VU is in error unless there were two Smokey Stovers. My frat brother's father played for VU and also married a girl from Ward-Belmont, relocated to her home state Texas. I think the bakery referenced make the famous Christmas Fruit Cakes
Wonderful discussion.
L. T. would complain that at 210 pounds he was lighter than the fullback he blocked for. Made academic all SEC,moved to center his senior season 1973.The week before UT game 1973 in dorm room in Tower 1(L.T. and players were on grass clothed up grade walls of first three floors of Tower 2) L.T. informed me of secret play for fake punt/run by Barry Burton.Went to my first UT/Dores game and lo and behold Barry ran said play at his own discretion. Shout out to Clifford Culpeper,Jay Chesley, Corey "Stubby" Clark,Ed Oaks,Howard Buck, Chris Regas and George Tomlinson

Great discussion
I remember the 94 Homecoming beat down on Georgia in Athens. Hoping for a conversation with Carlos Thomas soon
Looking great JJ
So glad I found this. Healey is one of the best people I’ve come to know. Met him in dental school. We were both second career guys. Quickly realized the oldest guy in the class was the best athlete. We still play a ton of golf together and take a buddies trip with him every May. Super humble. I have to do the bragging for him when we are together with other folks. 😉 A great friend, great person with a wonderful family.
If i recall correctly Northview had Opelika's number during the 1990s. If im not mistaken Opelika played them 8 times that decade. Correction 9 times with one of the meetings coming in the 2nd round of the 6A playoffs. The record was 7-2 Northview on top. Seem like we always played them 3rd game of the season as far as the schedule. I don't know why we struggled so bad with Northview but we did
AJ is my guy great guy!!!
Dr. Ann Neely was my fourth grade teacher in Auburn, AL. She was the best! Great interview.
We knew Scotti as the coolest man ever. Pensacola FL in the '70s...and beyond Glad he is telling us about it all. Vanderbilt Racquetball was my preference in Belmont College. Used to play handball in NYC. So happy to hear genius and voice of Scotti again. You go boy...a winner. Thanks for all. He loves his wife! .
I was younger than the Gaines brothers but they were very good and encouraging to me at a local gym in the early 90s. I had a very crazy home life and sought refuge at the gym. Props to them for intuitively knowing I needed some encouragement. Chris was/is a class act. Great interview. Blessings!
What up uncle💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽🙏❤
Enjoyed the podcast...give more!
Coach is looking good and sounding strong. He was my 9th grade football, basketball and track coach at Northview over 44 years ago. Great man!
Threalkill my guy! Awesome segment - watching from Wilmington, DE
Alabama you’re next 💅💅💅
They are
@@renaldojason I can only hope
When you do good for ungrateful people who don't appreciate anything you do you're wasting your time everyone's not the same but you do have ungrateful people out here you can give them all you want and they will never appreciate it once you give they going to expect that all the time they are the ungrateful the ones who don't come at you like that are the ones who appreciate what you do for them
Glad to see Scotti again in this Podcast. He's helped many people in Aflac. He's the real thing; down to earth. Successful to the max! Keep up the great work...to God be the glory...is what I can hear Scotti confirming!
My family Tony!
My brother and I grew up in Dothan, and enjoyed playing basketball 🏀 at westgate. I left Dothan in 98’ and my brother left in 2001’ but we have great memories going to rip hews stadium to watch my cousins play: Tony Donaldson and Edgar Walker play for Dothan high. I still my aunt (which she was in at at Northview then) taking me to a game where I first saw Lawrence Dawsey play. Didn’t know you were the QB. Oh by the way I thought David was a good QB. He had a good arm. I still remember that game in 93’ when all David did was handed the ball off to Kareece Davis and Kendrick Jernigan and they just ran it down Dothan high throat. I remember leaving that game early 😂
My first cousin AJ!
Wow Shawn McKorkel! he don’t remember but me and Shawn got our drivers license the same year. At the Dothan States trooper office. I remember talking to him as we were waiting to take the test, we both were 16 years old.
Did y’all know Roger Mills? He played back in 85’ or 86’
*promosm*
Wow I was at this game 😮! Kendrick Jernigan and K Davis were just running the ball 🏈 down Dothan.
Great human and am proud to call friend!
This is about how things really was around Valley Head
Ken … Send me your email address so I can get in touch with you … Thanks for your help at VU/Nashville during the weekend - Enjoyed your company and acquaintance with Tyler - Hope to see you again! eric “swede” soesbe!
Bernard! I met Ken this past Vandy home game vs. Alabama A&M. A true blue(Black&Gold!) Commodore and a real gentleman, as well. He gave Tyler Unzicker a hand(me w/walker!) and the VU staff was terrific, too, making our visit for the game a treat + the win! Thank YOU for this Open app to bring all of us alums together in our memories recalls‼️ An ongoing treat for we players of years past ⚓️!! swede/eric!(#77/‘57)
I was fascinated when I found out a guy who put together recruiting rankings was going to put a real team together, to see whether it translates into real life. Of course 5 stars aren't going to go to Vanderbilt any time soon, but if he's right about what he used to say on his show about how he identified under the radar players (such as guys who played other sports) they should be able to get some good teams. For most of Vanderbilt's football history, they've been a real life example of what it would be like if a group of 5 or FCS team played a power conference schedule.
Wonderful to see Eric! He was so supportive of me growing up and going to Vandy! Thanks…
For the record I want to make it 100% clear that the only pre NIL deals I can swear to are mine! lol Whatever other players got was rumors only passed down from previous recruits or their teammates 50 years ago.
Athletes on both sides. These are the years when kids loved the game.
Your MIL learned a lot about you and enjoyed your conversation.
My boy, Thor!! I love and miss that guy!!
Thanks Dr. Noble for sharing your story-you are great role model.
He works at my school! And he’s also my Offensive Coordinator!
Thanks for the conversation, Bernard. Apologies for the cold. Always fun to talk about the Commodores.
My cousin lerue FREEMAN also score a touchdown in the championship game
Fantastic! I enjoyed every minute. Alex, sorry your class lost to Northveiw. 😉
Just wanted to drop you a line to tell you how much I enjoy there interviews. My father was a Vanderbilt alumnus from Chattanooga and a member of the National Commodore Club during the 90s. We went to many games together and I grew up showing my gold. I’ll never forget Homecoming’91 and that missed UGA field goal. They had two chances due to a penalty. Our seat were in that south end zone. The weather was perfect. It was the same day UT came back to beat Notre Dame. I remember the fans collectively cheering as the PA announcer gave the score (at the time ND was way ahead). Also the Ole Miss game in I think’92 or ‘93. A decisive win at night for VU. We stayed at the team hotel, the Holiday Inn off old hickory in Brentwood. We got to high five the players and coach D. Such a thrill, even at 46 now when I think about it. I’d love to hear a complete panel discussion on Hell Buckle. Digs talking about it made me laugh out loud.
Great story! My son wants to become a COMMODORE!!!
Hi cuz!
