Best Herbs to Plant This Season + Full Raised Bed Tour
Welcome to my fall garden! 🍂 In today’s video, we’ll be diving into the Best Herbs to Plant This Season and taking you on a Full Raised Bed Tour. I’ll walk you through the process of planting a beautiful whiskey barrel herb garden, which is perfect for the cooler weather. In this container garden, I’ll be adding a blend of versatile, flavorful herbs, including flat leaf parsley, thyme, oregano, lavender, and sage, alongside a stunning chrysanthemum centerpiece to bring that classic fall vibe. You’ll see why these herbs are ideal for fall in Zone 9b, how to arrange them for a visually appealing barrel, and tips for soil preparation and watering.
🌿 Best Herbs to Plant This Season: These herbs aren’t just tasty and fragrant; they also share similar care and watering needs, making them low-maintenance and perfect for a fall whiskey barrel planter. I’ll go over each herb’s unique qualities, including how parsley brings lush green texture, thyme’s creeping habit fills out the edges, oregano’s hardiness, lavender’s silvery foliage and soothing scent, and sage’s deep, earthy color. Together, they create a stunning and functional herb garden you can keep harvesting from all season long!
💧 Watering & Care Tips: Fall herbs thrive in cooler temperatures, and with the right watering schedule, they’ll stay healthy and vibrant. I’ll show you how I ensure even watering with a simple yet effective trick, using a watering spike to help keep soil moisture levels steady in the whiskey barrel. Plus, I’ll share a soil mix recipe featuring mushroom compost and Garden Tone fertilizer that gives your herbs the nutrients they need to flourish throughout the season.
🌱 Full Raised Bed Tour: As a bonus, come along with me as I tour my raised garden beds to see what’s thriving this fall! You’ll get a look at the current garden layout, the companion plants I’m growing, and tips for transitioning your raised beds for fall. From resilient greens to fall blooms, I’ll show how to add charm and structure to your garden beds while keeping them productive and beautiful.
🪴 Why Plant a Fall Herb Garden? Growing herbs in the fall is a great way to enjoy fresh flavors and enhance the aesthetic of your garden. These herbs are not only useful in the kitchen, but they also attract pollinators, deter pests, and add greenery and texture to your garden. Good morning ☀️
Thanks for the update!
Thank you for watching and for your continued support! 😊
Have you ever tried putting a soul warmer wire in your beds in addition to frost cloth? I planted in September and don’t want to stunt my peppers growth during winter. Thank you in advance!
Should read soil warmer. Not sure a soul warmer would help with peppers?!?
That is a great idea I have not tried! I’m sure it will help…I have pretty good success cutting back my peppers in winter and they usually come back in the spring/summer since we are so mild in zone 9b. But for areas where it is colder or just to make it easier on the plants I think this would be worth looking into. Thanks for your comment!
😅 a “soul warmer” could also be helpful! 😉
nice update.
Thank you for watching and for your support! 😊

Hello, thank you for stopping by! 😊
Do you know Jesus is a prophet of God.God has no son
Thank you for your comment! God bless! 🙏🏻
Do you just use Garden Tone Fertilizer for your vegetables plants?
Actually most of the time it depends on what I have on hand…I usually use espoma Biotone Starter Fertilizer, but Garden Tone is good too. I always give my plants a good start by using a good raised bed soil, compost and fertilizer mixture as my base and then adjust from there. One thing I always make sure to use is a good compost, like the mushroom compost I used…someday I would love to make my own, just not there yet. 😋
Do you direct sow your pepper plants?
Yes, I actually sowed my bell peppers earlier this year in April. They love the hot weather and will be overwintering them if possible this year, since our climate here in Arizona is pretty mild in the winter.
@luckycatcreations Thank you for information 🙏 I really appreciate it I'm still learning!
When can you harvest the seeds from zinnias? About what Month? Do you collect seeds from your Garden??? And give to friends and family or to the Library?
Hi! Yes, you can harvest zinnia seeds anytime, just when the flower heads are fully dry and brown on the plant. Look for hard, dark seeds attached to dried petals, and store them in a cool, dry place to keep them viable for a few years. 😊 I do collect seeds from my garden, this helps to ensure the plants are well adapted to my area and also helps save on cost as well.
The drone shots are pretty cool :)
I KNOOOOW!!!!!!! 👍🏻😁👍🏻😁👍🏻😁 I really liked that too!

Hi! Good day 😊
Looks Great!
Thank you! This was a project that was long over due! 😋
That really freshened it up. If you add another raised bed, would you consider putting landscape fabric under it also in addition to the walkways? Thanks!
Absolutely! This entire area is prone to weeds and grass, so anything we can do to prevent it from growing up into our garden beds we will try. We do have landscape fabric under our current garden beds, and plan to add more garden beds in the future as well. 😊

Good day!
You should try growing passion fruit vines, they love growing on fences.
Ooooh! That sounds amazing! I’m not familiar with passion fruit vines, but it is definitely something to consider for that space. I will have to read up on that, thank you for the advice! 😉🌸
The space gave you a choice to do something or not do something. You did something! That’s a win!
I sure did try! 😋 Hoping to give it another go next year, but not in that same spot of course…it was a good experiment and I was happy overall with the result. 🎃
Tiny pumpkin I hope you could easily success your cultivations... Pumpkin is a healthiest vegetable in world. I ❤ pumpkin soup .
Interesting! I’ve never had pumpkin soup, that is something I will have to try for sure! Thanks! 😃
@@luckycatcreations try out it very tasty. Half boiling pumpkin also very tasty
Growing on the concrete wouldn't help it would heat up with the sun on it, but some pumpkins is better than none maybe grow on the other side of the fence next time
Definitely! The concrete I’m sure made it much worse with the extreme heat…actually thinking next year I might try in a completely different spot altogether. 😋

Always nice to get a few pumpkins, my daughter got a couple in her garden but I only had a few plants and all I got was male plants lol so I had to go to a local farm and purchase a few lol. Have a great week
Oh good for her!! Yes, pumpkins definitely proved to be a little harder to grow than I thought! 🤔 I always enjoy a good challenge though, and there is always much to learn when it comes to gardening. I do enjoy picking them out at the local pumpkin patches and enjoying the fall festivals -always a good time! 😉👍🏻
They may be small but it's better than nothing at all.. thanks for sharing.
You are so sweet, thank you for the encouragement. 😊Yes, I was a little disappointed at first, but you are absolutely right! I am thankful and can honestly say I learned a lot and look forward to next year! Hope you have a wonderful week! 🌸

Great Information.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching!
We have not grown garlic in our garden. Looks like a fun (if smelly) process. How long from planting to harvest? Is the taste dramatically different from store bought? Thanks!
Yes, a little smelly indeed 😅 These usually grow in about 6 months, so we should be able to harvest these in May-June next year. I love fresh garlic and feel like it tastes less bitter than jarred store bought. I feel like the California Early variety has a mild flavor and grows really well here. Totally recommend. 😊

Thank you for the continued love and support! You are much appreciated! 😊❤️😊❤️😊

What part of Arizona do you live in? I’m just getting into pepper gardening and didn’t have much luck my first year with the record setting heat in the valley.
Thanks for your comment! I’m in Gilbert, Arizona, so I definitely understand the challenges of gardening in this extreme heat! It took me a while to figure out what works best here too, but don’t get discouraged-gardening in Arizona is all about timing and choosing the right plants. I’ve had the most success planting cucumbers, melons and peppers in the hottest months, and using shade cloths or mulch to help protect plants from the intense sun. If you don’t have shade cloth, I found that if I could plant peppers on the east side of my garden beds and next to a taller plant, such as basil or tomatoes on the west side that it helped shade them naturally without need for shade cloths. Going into winter season, you will likely only need to trim your peppers back and cover with frost cloth during cold snaps. Also try a fertilizer high in phosphorus like Espoma Garden Food 5-10-5 to help boost blooms for more production. I hope this helps! Good luck to you! 🍀😊
I can't get my Broccoli to grow😢😫it always gets all Leggy and won't produce florets😫😫😫😫
Oh no! Sounds like maybe it didn’t get enough sun? I know they do like at least 6-8 hrs full sun and do really well in the winter season…the Summer would be way too hot to grow….and I would also use a balanced fertilizer like a 10-10-10 before planting and then top with compost. During the growing season I like to water in a blood meal or fish emulsion around the base to help provide extra nitrogen as well Once when it is about 6in tall and again when the broccoli heads start to develop . I hope this helps! Good luck to you! 😊🍀
