Flying full North side POTM
Переглядів 25021 день тому
9am morning hike and fly at point of the mountain. Morning started off with no win. pilots started hiking up so I thought I join in on the fun. Hiked up my light kit without a jacket and gloves. Should have brought my big kit. The day turned on nicely, this was a throw away flight. Flew the full length of the north mountain and played in some thermals. Drove up to Monroe Utah to fly some big ai...
Morning hike up the North

Morning hike up the north side of point of the mountain. was a pretty chill morning with cross winds. Was hoping to stay a float but slowly sank out. I was the only person to fly this morning. Utah guys turned and left after seeing the wind direction. #paraglidingpointofthemountain #hikeandfly #paragliding #utah #utahoutdoors #hikeutah #paraglide

Flying Herman before work. perfect sunny day with strong lift.

Testing out my GoPro chin mount. From the ride it looks pretty good. I can see the sky and the bike moving around, which is just perfect. I'm going to record some Colorado trails and other riding stuff. Weather in Colorado sucks. We're in a high wind at the moment and can't really get in the air. Turned to GoPro to 1080 instead of 4K. 4k is super hard to edit at the moment. After uploading it w...
Cloudy day at Boulder testing GoPro

testing out my new GoPro 12 in Boulder Colorado.playing with settings and seeing what does what. Any settings you guys like let me know. This flight I just tried the wind cancellation. it's not too bad with wind noise. like to add a microphone again so I can talk and share stuff in flight. editing is really tough with the camera being 4k. I'd like to get a laptop for editing my phone is just no...
Spring is here! Mt Herman
Переглядів 2054 місяці тому
Powerful spring day in Monument! Launched off Mt Herman at noon with Jon and Eric. The fight was a few days after a heavy snowfall that blanketed the area. pretty low pressure day with high humidity and blue sky. I couldn't ask for better conditions! had to cut the flight short and get to work on time. It was way too active over the LZ so I opted for a different landing area. Ended up landing 3...
Cloudy Soboba flight
Переглядів 1925 місяців тому
Cloudy Soboba day. It's been raining the last few days in California. Had a big storm roll through and it was raining for 2 days. This flight was after the rain had stopped and everything was drenched. Differently no heating was going on but the air was thick and fun to play in. Didn't hike to the very top but probably should have, would have really extended the flight. I'm a believer that play...
Nice to have the place to yourself! Every time I've been there, it's as crowded as the free lunch line at a paramotor fly-in. I'd like to hear more of Steve's (Nelson's Wings) unpleasant bottom landing experience!!
I agree with muwatter, cloud suck can be a dangerous thing. Nice hike and fly tho 👌
Thanks for sharing Carl! Love your narration and raw flight footage
@@MadMaxRyan Thank you.
Yeah that cumulus was seriously overdeveloping. I think you were wise to bail out and land soon!
That was fun to watch! We were just up there at that trail head 2 weeks ago on a group electric unicycle ride. I have seen lots of your videos and whenever I am in that part of town, I always scan the sky hoping to see you fly in person someday. Thanks for sharing, Carl! ua-cam.com/video/c9u_Hfq7kjE/v-deo.htmlsi=2Pu2z1qgRj4iX_IW&t=342
Good video. Isn't it usually South in the morning and north in the evening? (you can tell I don't live there).
Man, you hiked up pretty far. The only time I went to point of the mountain north side, I tried to launch from down low by the parking lot twice and sank out twice. That was a unpleasant experience. So I told myself that if I've ever back there I want to hike up but not as high as you did just go as low as possible just to get up into some wind and not sink out. It's a beautiful clear day for sure. Nice landing!
@@NelsonsWings If you hike about half way up you should be high enough to fly the rest. This day there was no wind down low and the only option was to hike up to the top. On a good day it's pretty easy to fly from the grass! I've had lots of flights starting from the grass. Easy 5 hour flight, just need the right day.
Nice edit! It's cool to see you're still rocking that D2 sometimes. I can't wait for Red rocks, it's nice that you got to go early in the season when you had the place to yourself.
@@NelsonsWings Utah you just need to chase the good weather! Flew Monroe but forgot my GoPro. Most beautiful morning flight ever! Smooth air, hands off flying
@@carlcolorado3549 Monroe is really great in the mornings. It's an awesome half hour sledder super fun.
Nice video, this is the first one of North that shows the main launch profile and why when watching the camera feed so many people have issue/tip collapses.
I’m jealous of all your sites. I live in the flat lands of central Oklahoma. Good vids👍
@@jaye7010 Thanks. Oklahoma has paragliding somewhere on the south east side.
Effortless forwards ... envious. Decent lift for a cloudy day.
Forwards are the way to go. 😊 Easy
@@carlcolorado3549 sure, provided there's not a bunch of sticks rocks and cactus to snag your wings as you move forward 🤪
Looks like you had epic conditions Carl!
Jim in the ripping thermal going up like a boss! 🎉🤙
600 fpm lift today! Hand of God reach down and picked Jim up! 😂
Rippin! Great video
Never coming down.................😁
A few hours in the air today. Been waiting a long time for the weather to calm down. We get 3 months of high winds. This week we finally got some good flying weather.
Is that in the state park?
Good gawd, Boulder is a tricky site sometimes (╯▅╰). How you liking the GoPro 12? Worth the upgrade?
I love it! Need to play with the settings. Pretty awesome camera. Last one was a GoPro 3
Perfect landing.
I shoot in 1080 or 1440 because I haven't really found any major difference in quality between HD and 4K unless you're watching on a really really big screen (like 70"+) even then, its marginal. Like you said, editing in 4K is also a pain in the a**. Also, UA-cam usually defaults to 1080 or 1440 anyways like it did for me on this video. You should definitely add some more content, I love watching your stuff when I'm stuck behind my desk!
👍👍
nice footage.. the 4k does look good. I hate shooting in it bc it eats up memory so quick and the editing is tougher but you make it look worthwhile. might have to try it. I fly with a Gp11 or a Insta 360 x3 alot.. I was ottos this morning. good day. Flying Boulder looks really fun though. need to try it. . Can't believe how many pilots there are.. were those all ground handling people at the end, or people doing sledders? I thought aspen was busy some days! Rock on! 🙌
The 4k looks incredible! The updated audio in the new gopros is working well for you, too. Keep it up, brother! Your content is looking great!
Way to work that bubble of lift before the LZ! So narrow and so much wind drift. Looks like a tough site to reliably make longer flights, you only have a few chances to make it work.
Boulder is all about timing! Just need to be more patient
I may do some fly at Liberty point this summer before I move back to Florida.
Liberty point is pretty fun
I threw in a 5k in the back of my pickup a couple years ago. Game changer for sure. Truck camping in the winter has never been so comfortable. Your inside the bed wall set up is super slick!
Thank you! Yeah the 5kw is amazing. Big game changer for sure. The computer is spot on and just works Everytime. These diesel heaters are the best way to go!
I always enjoy your narration. This looks like such a fun little place to fly. When I was a pre-P2, I used to watch tons of videos of this place. So I feel like I know it really well even though I've never flown it. I need to get up there and try it, it looks like it's a pretty mellow hike from the park. I'm wondering, how consistent is it? If I just drive up there some weekend do you think there's a chance it might work in the morning? I'm guessing that you only noticed the smudge on your lens after you uploaded the video haha! I added wipe my GoPro lens to my pre-flight checklist. How many hours you got on the Delta 4 now? Have you trimmed it recently? We bought laser rangefinders and built jigs and we're doing measurements at least on our gliders now. I did my photon couple of months ago, and it's still pretty close to factory trim. I sometimes wonder if you might have more success at this site and catching a thermal if you headed straight out tried to get as far away from the terrain as possible and maybe catch something where it's more consolidated instead of always being low and trying to get lift in the little bubbles that haven't coalesced.
Crest = up... Noted
Sweet dude.. Nice! I had one of those in my van and now I've got a portable one I can put in my jeep gladiator. They make sleeping/camping out in places like Ottos easy. The priming click is the sound of Victory! I love it. lol Hope to see ya in the air soon.
Jeep Gladiator is a pretty rade unit! Seeing more trucks using these heaters to stay warm. Looking forward to flying with you again soon.
Good to see someone flying PPG in Colorado Springs. We're moving there from AZ this summer and it doesn't seem like there is a big community of flyers there.
It's hit and miss sometimes. Hit me up when you get here.
nice, thanks for sharing
Why is Coiorado so barren and ugly? Where are most of the trees?
East of the Continental Divide is like this in Colorado. Pretty much everything West of here is more mountainous and lush
High desert. lower elevation is greener.
Says the jealous person who can’t afford to live in Boulder
@@Coloradodonkeywatch Haha I live in the third richest county in the United States. I own my home outright and all my possessions. I've been to boulder a few times and it's UGGGLY. What did all of you do, cut down all the trees. Where I live a huge oak in my back yard towers above me. Too many pure A-holes in Colorado. You're one of them.
Just the location and time of year. Spring comes a month later than the rest of the States.
Thanks for sharing! 🤙
amazing
This place is amazing.
Fun little playground. Heading there again in 2 weeks for some spring flying.
Your combustion air intake the one with the filter should be mounted outside because if the heater flames out carbon monoxide can come back out from the burn chamber. Very dangerous if you are asleep when it happens.
No it doesn't matter. Look how it works and you'll understand. Fan and blower are on the same driveshaft. Shaft is always moving. After shutdown the blower runs until unit cools down. About 2 minutes last I checked
Awesome
Yes
Spring time is nuts! Thanks for sharing
You bet
sweet flight!
Thanks
That's a good idea where to mount the heater. It won't works so well with my plastic box liner.
You can have the heat outside the camper with the hot air blowing in. Air temp is about 220° you won't lose heat
Wow there's been noticeably more erosion there since I was there 2 years ago. Tweet Tweet! My left knee is pain prevents me from using full speed bar very often, with my right leg I can get half easily when I try to use my left it's quite painful! Love the low clouds. Tide looks low. If you ever luck out and go on a strong day, you han get over 1000 feet, bump ip agaist the airspace.
Had to forward launch at the 1400 ft launch. No wind.
I'm a fan of the forward launch technique. A lot of times it is quick and simple.
This is a very enjoyable video.Brings back lots of great memories. I really love the winter extended proximity sledders there. Good job on the forward. My biggest problem with forwards is my timing for pausing to let the wing rise overhead. I tend to keep running when it is still low behind me and not flying yet. It looks like they have extended the new road by the powerlines a long way since the last time I was there 3 years ago. It's also interesting to see how overgrown the old road to the old 650 is. Almost no trace of it in places. How far up can you ride on the new road?
Damn then foggy days. Looked fun
Good stuff! Keep the content coming Carl.
That's pretty cool I've never seen the top of the mountain from the ground of only flown over it. What's the launch like up there? Do you have plent of room to lay out the wing? I miss Soboba. Haven't flown it in 2 years. Have they extended the new ATV trail all the way to the 1st "powerline" launch yet, or do you still have to hike the last 200 feet? Cool proximty. Why are they letting people park on the far side of the lz? That seems a little hazardous to me. Nice no- step Landing
There's 2 spots you can layout but you are next to the power line. It's a great starting point up top. Just hook a right and you can soar the peaks quite a ways. A later flight I got a 9k flight to the casino and back. Didn't brake above launch but it was an awesome flight. Weather was pretty cloudy and not much sun was heating the ground. Think they did make the road higher up. Not sure the numbers. But they have two kubota's running people up, quite efficiently. Parking is probably from all the rain. People just trying to stay out of the mud. Not too sure.
Tried making more videos but the lighting was really bad.
👍👍
Love Torrey pines glider port
Awesome ❤
Nice! Why the whistle?
Whistle is for a few reasons. Mainly for the RC pilots to hear you coming. RC pilots fly north of the takeoff and stay focused on your glider's. Whistle says I'm passing through your fly zone. The other is the new pilots. They don't check before turning and you need to let them know you're there
Awesome flight brother!!! Your videos get better and better with each upload. I look forward to seeing more of your adventures this summer!
Thank Brother! Means a lot
