A Chat with Irvin Kershner : Part 2
Переглядів 5 тис.14 років тому
A Chat with the Director Irvin Kershner for a Pilot to an Arts Program we did called "ARTSMASH." We talked about everything from his early days to Jackson Pollock. So sad to see Kersh go, but thought this should be shared. He couldn't have been more generous and kind.

Project Joy

A Project we did for the Nikon "A Day Through Your Lens" Contest. The story of our hero Will who escapes the daily grind to follow what he loves to do. Truly a labor of love for everyone involved. Music provided is the song "I Love What I Do" by Lootchiano.
Irvin Kershner directed the 1978 suspense thriller Eyes of Laura Mars. John Carpenter wrote the script years earlier.
"Why??" 🤣
Kershner speaks about Jackson Pollock as if he knew him, but I'm failing to find any reference to them meeting each other besides this interview. Clicking through some Wikipedia articles suggests that they ran in the same art circles in New York. In fact, it's possible that they directly met through Hans Hofmann or Pollock's wife Lee Krasner. Kersh and Krasner both studied with Hofmann. There are no references to Pollock studying under Hofmann, but he did study under Thomas Hart Benton at the Art Students League, which Hofmann also taught at for a time. If Pollock's Drip Period started after he and Krasner began living in Springs on Long Island, then I can easily imagine Kersh and other students joining Hofmann on a trip to Springs only to find Pollock dripping house paint on canvas laid out on the floor of his living room wondering what in the living hell he was doing.
Rip
I wish irv was my gpop
Alexander Nevsky is an awesome film.
Irvin Kershner is my spirit animal.
The Kersh Man cometh.
it's very weird how you're constantly showing the back of some random blondes head who says nothing...

Didn't have a tripod? Haha for real tho great job on the interview.
What was the fairy tale he was talking about??
Listening to Kershner, I feel dumb and humbled.
A big thank you to this man for directing the BEST Star Wars movie and my biggest childhood movie!
U see how he was noticing the camera movement!!!!! (at the end)
i like how he says why
I plan to. I threw this video up after he died to just get it out there.
Run raw footage through deshaker filter for virtualdub
holy fuck buy a tripod
I can listen this man for hours...
@DaBossk He was very fulfilled in his life. He would not want you feeling sorry for him. He would be more concerned with you creating the next great thing with your time on this Earth.
@BWGgy He was very very particular about voice. He was bothered that many actors moved to LA and got lazy with their speech. He was very strict with me on my voice.
@squamish4244 Spielberg would have had to leave the Director's Guild to do ROTJ, nothing George could do to help.
Sound like Yoda RIP man your movie will live forever
@andross51 Yes I believe you're right, it's too bad because Spielberg actually had the power to tell George what was a dumb idea or not.
@squamish4244 I think after empire strikes back was released, lucas dropped out of the directors guild so he couldn't hire speilberg. I bet he would have done a great job with ROTJ!
Lucas should have bent over backwards to get Spielberg for Return of the Jedi and then adopted the same approach with that as he did with Kershner in Empire.
669 views? This guys soul is in Empire Strike Back, he's the real star of the film.
TRUE
Another great soul has gone. : (
he was a great man, but u shoulda got a tripod for the camera, this shacking and zooming ruins this interview.
A great man and a great inspiration to me.
Thanks for sharing this. I've always admired the man. The Empire Strikes Back is my favourite film of all time. So sad to hear of his death. He was such an inspiration as a film maker and artist.
