Lodge 226, used to go Christmas Parties there, my father, Jimmy Young, was a Secretary of the Lodge, had a medal with a blue ribbon inscribed Lodge 226 Portobello. Also went to Leith and Canongate Number 5.

Thanks for posting this excellent video. I think that the music goes well with it, so I bought the CD. One of the first things that I did when I retired was walk the SUW. I put my tent up on a dreich evening not far from the start, and wondered whether I had made a wise decision - 212 miles is quite a way! The next morning I was woken up by the sun shining brightly through my tent, it was already hot at 5 AM. Beautiful blue sky, soon had a brew on, and I thought "This is what Monday mornings should have been like all these years!" I loved the SUW, and have done most of it twice, some sections near my home (Edinburgh) 3 times. Parts in the West are very lonely - the feeling of being miles from anyone adds to the experience. Just back from trekking in Knoydart. They say school days are the happiest of your life - I disagree. being a pensioner beats it every time.

Thanks to everyone for information and comments. I was given a copy of this film by a current member of the Lodge and thought it was worth sharing with a wider audience.

This film was made and narrated by my late father William McKenzie of Esplanade Terrace, Joppa. My dad is also in the film walking off the beach towards the camera. He was always taking films, and he used to take great pride in showing them to us when we were kids. Luckily we still have quite a few and have now purchased a projector and it is so interesting to watch them and see just how much things have changed. Do not know where this film has come from, but I think it might have something to do with the late Bob Nicholson (local coal merchant) who was Grand Master sometime in the 1960s who was a very close friend.

Great video, I'm convinced that the gentleman at 6:08 is my grandfather Jim Leishman (who used to drive deliveries for Rankins at the top of Bath Street, where Greggs is now) and the lady with dark hair on the right directly after him at 6:10 is my grandmother Jeanie Leishman (n Brown) from Williamfield Square... Thank you Bob for a wonderful step back in time!

Thanks for sharing this, I remember it still being there and its demolition back when I was but a kid. Of course part of it remains standing, it being the College now at the bottom of Inchview Terrace. Next came the changes at the junction, the regeneration of Seafield and all the car garages there and the building of Sir Harry Lauder Road.

I discovered this film by pure chance. In 1958 my father, Dick Irvine was Master of Lodge 226. He narrates part or the film from 45 seconds in. He is also seen leading the procession at 2.50 and at 3.44. He was 40 years, I was 6 . This is a wonderful document of times past, I still cannot believe this happened.

Wish I'd seen a Barn owl this close. I've only ever seen one in the wild, and that was a murky glimpse at night to boot. Ever notice how parrot-like they seem to be in terms of how they stand?
