The Billboard Rhythmic chart (formerly known as Rhythmic Airplay, Rhythmic Songs, Rhythmic Top 40, and CHR/Rhythmic) tracks the airplay of songs on rhythmic radio stations, which feature a mix of R&B/hip-hop, rhythmic pop, and dance tracks. Launched on February 27, 1987, as Hot Crossover 30, the chart evolved through several iterations, including Top 40/Dance, Top 40/Rock, and Top 40/Rhythm-Crossover, before becoming Rhythmic Top 40 in 1997 and Rhythmic in 2008. The chart includes 40 positions and is based solely on radio airplay, with data collected from 66 rhythmic stations by Nielsen Broadcast Data Systems. Songs are ranked by the number of plays they receive weekly, with awards given for significant growth ("bullet"), top 20 placement ("Airpower"), and the largest increase in plays ("greatest gainer"). Songs are removed if they fall below the top 15 after 20 weeks.
