Hi, I'm Karen, a gardener from Surrey in southern England (USDA zone 8, I think!).
I share videos of my own middle-sized garden which is on a very hot, south facing, chalky slope. I'm a bit of a floweraholic and love attracting wildlife to the garden with a wide range of pollinator friendly plants.

Garden Tour - May 2024
Join me for a tour around my garden in May.
Yet more rain over the last month, but things have finally started warming up!
I’ve made a few changes including a fairly substantial prune of the olive tree (eek!) and bought a new wisteria which I’m looking forward to planting.
Flowers to look out for this month include Geum, Weigela, Osteospermum, Geraninum and Aquilegia.
As mentioned, this year I'm planning to upload tour videos more regularly, hopefully on a monthly or bi-monthly basis so that I can see how the garden develops over the seasons - do check out the previous videos so you can see the difference!
Garden info - The garden is on a south facing chalk slope in the South of England. There are two main tiers - the top is largely wildflowers, with a pond and some herbaceous borders. The lower tier is kind of "prairie style" though a fairly loose interpretation! And finally at the very bottom is the wild area.

Wildflower Meadow Maintenance

I love my wildflower meadow, it’s full of flowers and is great for wildlife. It’s been in for about 4 or 5 years now, and doesn’t need too much in the way of looking after, but every year in late summer, I give it it’s annual mow! Cutting back lavender - the easy way

A quick video today and one of my favourite garden tidying jobs of late summer - cutting back lavender. Trimming lavender after it's flowered helps keep it in good condition and stops it from getting too leggy. If you're not sure how, I have the answer! Greeting's from Ireland, Great garden tour and beautiful garden, three week's ago our garden looked terrible weed's and dandelion's every where. My wife has no interest in gardening so it was like I came out of hibernation and I went hell for leather on the May bank holiday weekend.
Thank you! The weeds (and snails) seem to have been much worse this year. Probably because we’ve had so much rain!
@@Garden-Well We had the wettest March on record, I have managed to get on top of the snail and slug problem with my slug traps and homemade slug bait. I have never seen so many in the garden luckily I haven't lost any plant's.

Beautiful garden, really enjoyed the tour round, sadly all my tulips got eaten by squirrels last year but they seem to have done better this time 😃looking forward to your May tour 😊

Hello! My first visit from the States... I guess squirrels no matter where they are in the world basically act the same. I keep telling the squirrels in my neighborhood it's ok to dig holes in my mulch if you guys would kindly fill them back up when you're done. They pay no attention to what I have to say..........
Haha! Kind of nice to hear I’m not alone in my squirrel struggles! They don’t listen to me either 🤷♀️

Beautiful as always. I really look forward to these videos. I wish there were more..would love to see you pottering around in your beautiful space. I too have crab apple everest..mines new thos year but a decent size..I haven't really got the room so mines in a half barrel on the patio. It flowered so much and is just going over now but I has no scent, so maybe next year. Please come back soon. Best wishes davena

I’m doing tours on a monthly basis, which gives the garden time to change and move on. So it’s regular, but maybe not that frequent! Sorry! April tour should be out next weekend.

Hi lovely! Once again thanks for sharing your beautiful space . I love the euphorbia. Id love them in my garden but have a little grandson who is into everything and my daughters little dog also dashes through the plants when she visits so at the moment it hasnt made it to my garden. I have no space anyway haha. Im so interested in all your trees and will love watching them all come back to life so i can see what you have. You have an amazing space and i agree a wisteria will look lovely in the place you suggested. I cant wait for the next video. (Hopeful you may put a cheeky extra up before another month goes by 😊) x
Thank you! It's a shame you can't have euphorbia at the moment -they are stunning! But you're right; probably not ideal if it's likely to get knocked - the sap is pretty nasty stuff. Hoping most of the tree's should be out (or well on their way) by next month!
@Garden-Well you're right. I know someone who ended up in hospital after the sap going in his eye. Maybe one day. Happy gardening x
