"Coming to UCLA, I didn’t know much. I applied for a conference funded by the USAC External Vice President’s office the summer before my freshman year, hoping in some small way to meet new friends, find a progressive community of change-makers, and build on my deeply personal drive for social justice that was imparted in me by my family and community. I found that and so much more. There, I was inspired to meet and learn from activists, organizers, and advocates pushing for radical change throughout the UC system and state. I was inspired to dive into the world I now pour my heart into every day, the world of change-making within the UC.
The External Vice President's office organizes and advocates for the voices, visions, values, and vantages of UCLA students to decision-makers that have an impact on our lives. It’s an office historically rooted in community and coalition-building, with an intrinsic arc bending toward social justice. The EVP office is neither the start nor end to progressive activism and advocacy on UCLA’s campus. But for many, like myself, the opportunities, resources, and institutional leverage that the office provides can be a critical tool for advancing equity on our campus and across the UC. And it’s an office whose mission I have devoted myself toward advancing for the past 3 years. In the dark times we find ourselves in - with students off-campus, out of work, and fighting for their basic needs in the midst of a global pandemic - now, more than ever, we need an EVP who can advance a bold vision for our campus community.
That’s why I’m excited to announce that I’m running for USAC External Vice President, to apply my energy and years of organizing, advocacy, and coalition-building experience in service of students like you and me.
