3 Most Powerful Strikes in Yamanni Ryu?
Good staff!
Thanks for watching
I remember sparring about 15 year ago at my good friend Master Bobby Popham’s Georgia Hapkido Academy. He and I did some kick boxing training with other martial artist some back then. Spared with a nice gentleman who was well trained in Muay Thai. Super humble guy. I am 6’2” 200. He was 5’7” maybe 140. I was training Taekwondo, Kickboxing and Hapkido. When we sparred about a minute into the 1st round he threw a kick just like that. My leg just stopped working and I dropped. Master Nishme is right a kick there hits some serious nerves. Opened my eyes.
Thank you for sharing your story. It’s amazing what a well placed kick can do to your leg
Yeah if they are used properly. They can be dangerous to you if you use them improperly though too.
That’s why I recommend starting with the foam / rubber as a beginner. Thanks for watching
Awesome. What do you use to make your targets?
This is shinai wrapped in pipe insulation. I broke one during one of the videos so I’m looking into some other options. Also plan on shooting more content soon, just been an incredibly busy few months
Ok
😂😂😂
Thanks for watching
Karate kick: Visualize kicking through the target. Muay Thai: Yea, we actually kick through to the target.

Amazing. I always thought there was some power in knee work, but your intro clip shocked me Yow! as your kneed partner was knee-powered off camera. Demos thereafter showed there is much more. (How about alley scene demos.) And thanks.
I appreciate the comment. Thanks for watching
Is the punch stronger with cloves
Each variation I gradually increase hit force until they say enough.
Serious stuff. Thanks
Thanks for your support
More powerful if you jump/slide a bit throw the low kick same time
You can definitely get more power that way but this is more to demonstrate the difference in striking surface and chambered vs unchambered leg. There are other footwork variations that may not be as powerful but still very effective leaving the opponent more vulnerable. Thanks for watching
What it he doesn’t pop back up?
The pop up doesn’t really matter. Yanking someone forward is what matters. When you pull someone forward in a fight, or down, the natural instinct is to gain distance or to use a take down. A. He steps back This leads to the guy getting his legs sweeper. B. He tries to perform a takedown This leaves his neck open and you can try to put him in a chokehold. -- I have very limited knowledge on fighting, and this is just my best guesses. Anyone feel free to correct me.
Depending on how hard you pull them forward they may not pop up immediately but in most cases if you push/ pull someone off base they will need to correct it before doing anything else. If he falls forward or attempts to shoot you will have enough distance at this range to react to either defend the shot and/ or look for a front headlock. You can also create this same movement and hit the foot sweep by pushing your opponent but this is not common against a trained person.
Another fantastic video.
Thank you
Your comment about styles in karate is very perceptive. We all need to find what works for us, so cross training is important. As a karateka, I also train in judo to give me a better understanding of the throws in the karate kata, and also to have some basics in order to be able to defend myself on the ground. Great content - thank you for sharing.
Thank you for the comment. Keep up the training , the journey never ends
I don't like Muay thai stance if i'm surround by 3 or 2 attacker it could be very stationary. I use to think side stance was ridicules till machida change my life ever since watching his first fight.
It is possible to be quick and mobile from a Thai stance but it seems to be rare. I saw saenchai sparring 2-3 people at a time when I was training in Thailand. Granted it was sparring and not real fight but his dynamic speed changes and foot sweeps kept everyone from touching him until he let them. It was quite impressive and opened my mind to being able to use multiple styles of movement and footwork in any given situation. Thanks for the support
@@JasonNishime I guess i'm kyokushin at heart. But i did study various of kickboxing styles since i'm wanna be kickboxing nerd, i think i'm mid with my Muay Thai. Not as Dynamic/good as Seanchai he got this lean back on point/one-handstand kick/tricks. I don't know I wish I could test it out. like I done TKD/Western kickboxing/ Muay Thai with Muay Boran it's was strange they didn't bother to tell me. if was Muy Mat. i did leth wei and Khmer kun/Viet kickboxing/Yaw yaw/Sanda. Last year I updated my MMA skill I learned Machida footwork. I guess if kept switching all the style stances I learnt. i could use in a 3 vs 1 situation would work idk. But thanks I'm search video you mention tho.
@@hotpopcorncake keep in mind if we’re talking strictly self defense I’m not picking a particular stance. Whatever gets you home alive is the one you need.
@@JasonNishime Oh ok Thanks
I like karate in short range and Muay Thai low kick for long range. What style of karate you do?
My primary style is shorin ryu, but I’ve also crossed trained with Muay Thai for 8 years and did some kickboxing. I’m also very open to training with other karate styles and have had the chance to work with kyokushin fighters and other full contact folks out there. Thanks for the support
@@JasonNishime Oh cool, I guess my feed lead your channel since I been very curious how Shorin Karate works. Becuase when I was in Kyokushin I notice They didn't go into detail in Bunkai. I talked to my Senpai , He said its self-explanatory the Katas that I learn. He said i look like i was smart enough to understand it. But Sometimes i have this obesion watching the Old TMA Karate videos on UA-cam. Looking for small details that i miss.
@@hotpopcorncake there are a lot interpretations of bunkai and kata. My father trained in Okinawa before being sent the United States to take over a dojo. He has been researching technique for as long as I can remember and one of the things he always stressed was finding a way to make the technique work for you. I plan to do some video on this topic at some point.
Was the last one was TMA karate ? I think the first was Kyokushin kick
The first and last are both considered traditional karate kicks. Depending on the school or style they may use both. The ball of the foot is probably the most traditional way while the top of the foot is used more in sport applications ( both point and full contact) Thanks for the comment
Nice I do Okinawan karate and boxing and jiujitsu as my main and weight lifting
That’s a great combination to keep you well rounded. I love the carryover from one art to the other. Keep it up Thanks for the comment
I was an amateur boxer, and I was an athlete in school and have been athletic my whole life. But I don't care how much knowledge or physical advances I might receive. In no way would I ever workout train or be coached by or sit under any man that would wear his hair in a manbun. He could be the highest level teacher in his form of training, but the respect that he should have for himself is totally lost with his hairstyle, so instantly I would leave his presence. 1 Corinthians 11:14 Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him
That’s sick
I do Okinawan kenpo karate it’s legit and also boxing and jiujitsu and weightlifting since middle school
Hahahahahahaha hahahaha
You sound pretty foolish and incredibly judgmental - maybe you should read more of your bible and try to be more accepting. But being an amateur boxer and school athlete you’re obviously a tough guy already, I’m sure there’s nothing left for you to learn.
This amateur boxer must know a lot!! This instructor Jason is actually benefiting from not having you as a student to be that disgraceful and judgmental that you cant accept learning something from a very decorated martial artist. Sounds like you have a lot of growing up and understanding of what actual self defense could do for you. There’s a chance maybe one day you’ll be in a situation where a man is sitting on top of you trying to harm you and maybe this comment that you left will be ringing through your head. Carry on with your senseless trolling.
Eddie Bravo's lost cousin? :D
😂😂😂 I’ve heard that a few times

Beautiful. Perfectly timed with no telegraph right to the sweet spot. Thanks for the recommendation
Fantastic straight to the point style content! Much respect and thank you for sharing! Glad I found the channel
Thanks for your support. I’m glad you enjoyed the video
Sensei J really needs to start a tutorial on UA-cam. Amazing understanding of structure and the use of it.
I’m thinking about making a few videos
Almost thought you did Kyokushin from your versatility.
Not officially but we have full contact matches in traditional Okinawan karate. Mainly just enjoy martial arts and how they overlap. Thanks for the support
@@JasonNishime after all kyokushin is Goju Ryu inspired. You're learning from the true source. good job
What if he circles his foot to the right? I'm asking this in all honesty I'm a BJJ purple but it's always best to learn from the teacher
Great question. I’ll give 2 general answers. 1st this is mainly meant for self defense applications in which I would not want to go to the ground. 1 vs 1 ground control all day but I’ve been in enough situations where it turns into multiple attackers out of seemingly nowhere. In this sense he could potentially step around but I would be able to utilize striking to slow him down if necessary. 2nd in a purely grappling context this wouldn’t be the best way to control someone as there isn’t much leading to a finish. For example if I were competing I would use the arm drag to secure back position and look for the takedown. This would hopefully prevent that situation all together. If you watch the full video the goal is to show how grappling technique can be applied in the context of karate. This is just a short clip that I found useful for people making that transition and some things to avoid. If you’d like more bjj specific content I’m open to ideas as the channel is still new. Let me know if there’s something you’d like me to cover and I’ll do my best to answer any questions you might have Thanks for supporting the channel
GREAT CONTENT SENSEI‼️ 🥋👊🏼💥
Appreciate the support
LOVE IT‼️🥋👊🏼💥
Thank you
I would love more MMA / self-defense style takedown videos. Thanks again.
Love the idea and will definitely do that in the future
I started in American Kenpo and found i could hold off bjj pretty well, but once they got hold of me, it was tough to transition. I do bjj now as well. Using kicks, punches, elbows to close the gap is good. Plenty of options for striking from in the guard. Also, wrist and joint locks work very well Thanks for the great videos
Thanks for the support. Every style has some holes that need to be filled and cross training helps to cover all bases. Keep up the training, the journey never ends
Once again, great video.
Thank you for the support. If there’s anything you would like to see please let me know
I'm first to add a comment Yea!🎉

No one kicks with there foot. It's not soccer
This is actually considered correct in most traditional karate competitions including full contact.
Unsafe practice
I'd like to get some low kicks. they look great.
Low kicks are great
I'm a BJJ brown belt, and i train with a karate black belt who has been training for over a decade. Plus, he's a BJJ brown belt, too. He is so difficult to roll with cause he looks at things at such a different perspective. He hits me from so many crazy angles and unexpected places. Love rolling with the dude, and I always learn something neat when I go with him.
That’s awesome. Karate gets a bad rap in the grappling world but there are definitely some carry over skills that help both arts. Thanks for supporting the channel
Is there even a way to do safe sparring with a bo?
We’ve done some with padded Bo. There are competitions that utilize this method but it becomes like any other sport where the objective is to score points vs real combat applications. It is still better than nothing. It will teach you to utilize footwork, timing and distance management which are all things that can’t be trained solo
It is good you did not lapel the video bo staff, biggest pet peeve in martial arts is people not knowing bo means staff in Japanese
It drives me crazy hearing people call it that as well. Appreciate the support
Great way to get your joints demolished holding a stick out like that.
The shinai has some give but if you watch the first video in the series this was designed to show traditional kobudo isn’t just dancing with a stick and has real power. We scale up in power and let them decide when to stop. I have a video in the works that will demonstrate some of these techniques at full power
@@JasonNishime That’s all fine. But the way joints swing sideways doesn’t look healthy to me.
You’re correct but if they held the target in line with structure it would hit them. It’s safer to demonstrate a few hits this way than risk getting hit by the target or worse the Bo. We will have a better demonstration in the future that doesn’t compromise the joint of the person holding the target
@@JasonNishime Wel that would be a lot off entertainment hitting the target whilst in a frontal position^ Probably better to place the target in some device. And perhaps place some pressure gauge in there to measure the “damage” (yeah I’m a number’s guy)
if you know of an inexpensive gauge that can survive the impact let me know. I'm interested in that as well@@Florahitman
I study Ryukyu Kobudo Shimbukan under Hiroshi Akamine Sensei. Awesome to see good Kobudo on YT. I liked & subscribed & wish you good fortune on your channel.

So do you hate karate
Not at all I still train and teach almost every day
@Username.6391 correct I still actively train karate and Brazilian jiujitsu daily. I also did Muay Thai and kickboxing for 8 years including some time training in Thailand. Thanks for watching
Username.6391 appreciate it. Hope your training is going well
I think this dude is grooming that kid. He seems like a chomo
That first calf slicer was kinda sus bro...
It does take a bit of timing to hit in real time. Kind of hard to talk through it and hit it the way I have rolling. It’s based on the common responses I’ve seen rolling. Thanks for watching and if you have a better set up I’m happy to see it
Gedan Mawashi-geri is Te klap in Muay Thai. I know that there is a "Dutch Style" variant of the low roundhouse kick as well. Great video.
One of my former trainers was a big fan of the Dutch style low kick as well. Appreciate the support
I do dutch style kickboxing and it's very much like a MT kick, we arc and swing in a chopping angle to that sweet spot above and to the side of the knee aiming for that nerve cluster and use the shin impact too. Absolutely kills even when holding kick shield
From my experience the kick itself isn't really different but the stance its thrown from is what gives its unique style.@@sorearm
@JasonNishime yes we do a similar step out on the supporting leg at an angle which aids the chopping in motion 🙏
Just found your channel. I look forward to seeing you content. Great mix of modern & traditional training and martial arts.
Thank you. I look forward to sharing more of my experiences with everyone
Comprar um protetor de material bom, para os treinos esse aí tá murcho.👍🏻
Sorry it took some time to translate your comments. We have Thai pads as well. They do require some practice to hold properly. The people in the videos are not trained in striking and have no bias towards either. This was to demonstrate the difference in style of kicking. This is also why I only demonstrate a few and not at full power.
