Old Farts Tournament Lake Henderson 6/25/24
I have a shitload of the Gillys. They look awesome.
@@JamesPetit1 cool little baits. This is first time I’ve rigged it with bullet weigh for flipping. Has a spiral as it goes down like a dying bluegill
@@rustyreidfishing3334 It swims really good as a swimbait too. I can see flipping it like you did working really good too.
@@JamesPetit1 I’ve fished it that way some with nail weight in belly. Only caught one fish but haven’t thrown it much
@@rustyreidfishing3334 Probably better around the spawn and post spawn when the bluegill are spawning.
Great short day.
Pesky hurricanes! They are a pain. Glad you made it without much damage. We had lots of moss and some small branches down but nothing major.
@@dennischojnowski8699 about like us. There are 2 more storm systems coming
If you don't mind but what type of worm were you using? Is it Zoom
@@AlbertVieraFishing352 first few were on Zoom Speed Worm dragged across submerged hydrilla on 1/8 weight, Sun Gill color. Last 2 were on a worm a buddy hand pours.
@rustyreidfishing3334 Thank You for the reply
Good day out there. Hernando looks to be doing better than Henderson.
I haven’t been on Henderson for couple months. To me they seem to fish about the same. I don’t spend enough time on Henderson to give a good answer. I live a mile from Hernando boat ramp so that’s where I spend a majority of my time
Not a bad day. I've already liked overcast days. The Guys done here in Fl say they like sun shine. I'll take overcast. I love fishing worms. Give me one bait to use forever and I'll take a worm. Just got a shitload in too...I'll be getting out there soon.
Made a Yolotek for around $40, came out really nice and works good. Made a little direct connect unit to attach to my counsel too, works good right off my 12v battery. Not to figure out this new Gopro and some new editing software ! Going to learn Power Director.
@@JamesPetit1 the cloud cover sure makes it more comfortable. In the past the bright sunny skies have been great for me but last couple of summers not so much.
Quarter pounder with cheese ! It's fun solving the offshore puzzle.
@@JamesPetit1 it was fun while it lasted. Spot lock would be nice but still have my old school marker buoys. Just have to find more spots and this is only one I’ve really found
@@rustyreidfishing3334 My friend and I did that last time we fished Johns Lake. Made the right move and found 'em out in the deeper water grass line. Got most of them on speedworms and swimbaits. I think the first thing I bought for my boat were a couple sets of marker buoys !
Waitin' for that water temp to start coming down. Maybe a couple or three more weeks.
Like it or not, fishing those big worms will catch em in the summer...especially, after the sun gets high. good video Rusty
I caught some on Henderson this past Sunday dragging a worm. I usually throw a swim worm but they weren't having it.
I've had some success flippin' those floating tussock roots. If there's a couple feet of water beneath them.
@@dennischojnowski4707 I flipped all around it. Water 6’+
I love worm fishing, probably my favorite bait to fish. Not as exciting as a topwater but I love feeling the bite on a worm and setting the hook. Plus if I work an area with a orm I feel confident that if fish are there I can coax them into biting. I still remember the fist bass I ever caught on a worm fifty some years ago. A 4" Creme worm and it was actually worm colored ! I bought a new GoPro the other day, I'm gonna give you a call later and ask you a couple questions about yours. I love the voice activation feature. I've went and got my boat and have been setting it up with everything the last few days. I have about everything I need now, gonna put an hour meter in today and figure out tackle placement, rain gear etc...Let this weather cool down a tad too...
@@JamesPetit1 I used to throw a worm a lot in Missouri. Love the tap tap. Guess in my old age I’ve lost patience
@@rustyreidfishing3334 Hey, what do you think of that side imaging sonar in the Florida lakes? Think it's even worth it ?
@@JamesPetit1 some lakes I’m sure it’s great. I’ve only used it on Hernando and all I see is pure vegetation in most places. I have found a few off shore bluegill beds. Regular 2D sonar seems best but then you’re looking right below boat. DI is ok but still think 2D is the ticket. May be great on Harris Chain or Kissimmee Chain for offshore shell beds. Henderson is basically the same. Haven’t been to Floral City yet
@@rustyreidfishing3334 I have the Garmin 74cv on my boat now, I'll snoop around with it for a while and use it mostly for scouting sessions.and mark some key areas. I had a feeling that's how the side imaging would be here, a ton of grass...I could see it being very good on most "normal" lakes though.7 day forecast all in the 90's. I'm waiting for it to cool down a bit. I'm too handsome to die out there !!!
@@JamesPetit1 gators gotta eat too 🥴
prayers for your friend...nice to the speed worm getting some work done!
Turned out great. Very nice on the feet

Barefoot ? Put some socks on them ole' cheese curl lookin' toes of yours. Or pixelate them in the editing process please...!!!

@@JamesPetit1awe man, sorry to hear that.
@@rustyreidfishing3334 I'm down to 4 now 😂😂😂
Looks great...professional looking finish
@@andrewpulliamfishing Thanks, I think it looks pretty good
Dink City. what's up with that place ? We used to do good there. Makes me in no rush to get up there till it cools a bit !
@@JamesPetit1 my opinion is the water is just too hot. At least that’s my excuse. I’m not even hearing the bluegill in the pads. This is second summer in a row.
@@rustyreidfishing3334 Something shitty happening...Maybe the spraying and ripping out a lot of the habitat didn't help. They were doing that 5 yrs ago when I fished there...
@@JamesPetit1 this is what they are spraying www.aquadocinc.com/product/aquathol-k-contact-herbicide/ Says it’s not harmful but ? Even if it’s not the dying vegetation has to deplete the oxygen levels along with the heat. The harvesters don’t concern me as much as the spraying but when they run the machine through spawning grounds during spawn season can’t be good. I also understand the invasive weeds will eventually take over the lake On the bright side I am seeing more eel grass which is a good thing.
@@rustyreidfishing3334 Yeah, I agree. I'm not even gonna say I know enough about it but the consensus to me is the harvesters do a good job in the summer and it seems nobody likes spraying. I noticed a couple spots I use to fish are now gone. Maybe not so much on Hernando but there are WAY too many tourneys on all the lakes. They have them during the spawn and many have something going on every weekend. It's just gotten' to be way to much in my view. Nationwide not just Fl.. A lot of these fish, while they may swim off after 1/2 a day or day in a livewell and I think the fatalities may be higher than people think. Just part of the equation though. A combination of these, probably spraying leading the way. Like Agent Orange they'll figure it out in a few decades...
Beats sittin' in front of the TV.
@@dennischojnowski4707 A/C sure feels nice though
I'm going Saturday...hoping to find some good areas for a tournament next month
How did you do today? Would loved to have met you at boat ramp but I was in Tampa at Monster Jam with grandsons
Not too bad...caught 5 or so...nothing big, but my partner had his boat too and we found a spot that had some giants...so we're hoping they'll be there...but 3 weeks is a long time in this state
Rousseau is tough don't feel bad
@@WegoFishing352 it’s a cool lake. Reminds more of Midwest reservoirs (because it is a reservoir) that I’ve always fished. Each lake has its own personality but that’s part of the fun
👋 Rusty
You add the alligator to your catch list now 😂
@@jasoncole7139 not my first gator (3rd I’ve hooked) but first captured on cam. Try to avoid if possible but I didn’t see it. It is the largest I’ve hooked

if we didn't have this Hurricane I could tell you Wacasassa is a hidden gym to fish if you like river fishing, we fish it and catch a lot of bass down there. Everybody saltwater fishes but the main river and a creek down there make some excellent bass fishing
It’s not you It’s the management of the lake I talk to biologist who shock the lake and the quality and numbers are not there I’m not saying there aren’t any big ones in the lake just very few quality bass I’ve been fishing Hernando for 21 years now It has declined
Sad to know. As late as 2022 I had days of multiple 3-5 pounders. This year I’ve had maybe a handful. Largest so far is a 6-10. I’ve had couple 8+ each year I’ve fished the lake, even last year I had 2. This year nada. I did see a 10-13 couple weeks ago a buddy caught and a 9+ couple months ago (all on artificial). Some of the shiner guys I talk to are coming to Hernando for bait but going to Withlacooche for their trophies
I think it's just the season we're in and part of a natural cycle.

@@jasoncole7139 hah, took me 4x as long as doing it on the phone. I wanted to add some funny text. Saw the button to do it earlier but now can’t find it 🤷🏼♂️. Kept it on computer so may go back and try again.

@@jasoncole7139 but you are a little more tech savvy than I am
Congrats on 3rd Rusty. Better than nuthin'.
That's exactly why you don't see rushing to get out there ! Looked wicked hot. Got the last of the rods and reels spooled up. Got some heavy duty storage boxes for the boat, about 10-12 plano boxes of tackle and 100 lbs of soft plastics ! I'm building a GoPro stick to plug into my Nav light and run it off the main battery. Still trying to find a good video editor. Gonna go with either Clipchamp or powerdiredtor. Some of the smartphone apps look easier but I don't have a smartphone ! Good finish !
@@JamesPetit1 yeah, it’s miserable out there for sure but the best time to go fishing is when you can. Planning on going tomorrow but will probably head to the ramp about 11:00. Part of the “fun” is organizing our stuff. I’m always reorganizing and trying to be more efficient on the water plus I’m kind of a neat freak. I’m still editing on my phone as I’ve become comfortable with it. Still need to play more with the editing software on PC. I know I could do so much more. Just another aspect of the hobby. Even in retirement I can’t seem to find the time. One of my sons and my son in law are in the tech industry but being an old guy none of this comes easy. When I first started doing this it was intended to be more of a log book (something I did for each lake in my tournament days) where I could go back and see what I did on a particular day/season and conditions. Just trying to improve myself as an angler but having fun doing it.
At 7:00, fish landing violation - 2 minute penalty....
Yeah, I sat down for 2 minutes
Looks like the ducking material is working. Bare hooves out there !
@@JamesPetit1 yes sir! Loving it. Foot pedal was HOT so I had enough scrap to cover it . Could have bought one for $29.99 plus $9.00 shipping or spend an hour cutting my own. How’s your new boat?
Have to register it yet. This week probably.Getting everything bought and organized. Had to buy a new tow vehicle too, get a hitch put on. I have about a dozen rods here to get ready, tackle to sort out and organize etc....I 2 more shipments of tackle coming then I'm done ! My living is a mess with all the gear. I m making a Nav light into a device to plug in the nav light socket and run off nav light outlet. Should be out in a week or two.
Got a nice 4 blade SS prop and jckplate if I ever want to hit the salt again. I love to fish snook and know nsome good mid winter trout hangouts. Love Trout.
Numbers are great but it’s truly the lake of 1lbers Nice job
@@kennyhaworth9606 it has a bunch of dinks but it also has big girls. Just gotta weed through the dinks. My philosophy is catch as many as you can and the big ones will show up.

@@JamesPetit1 do your research on EVA foam before you purchase. Many imitations out there especially on Amazon. Too many bad reviews about the Chinese off brands. I opted to spend the $ now rather than having to tear out and replace in a couple of years. I’ll have to see personally how it holds up but I feel comfortable with my choice
@@rustyreidfishing3334 Oh, I'm sure there is a bunch of crap out there. I will study and research them before buying. On my last aluminum I just put a really good green outdoor carpeting on and it held up beautifully for years.Greem with black in it, look good held up good.

I just messaged you a pic on Facebook. Nine's a 16.5 and has a power pole. 101 hrs. Like new, looks just like the pic, same trolling motor, Garmin ClearVu, on board charger etc...
Should be interesting. What color is it going to be ? My friend has it on his flats boat. Definitely adds to the daily cleaning list when you get home. What did that set you back out of curiousity? I think my friends was over a grand on a 17', hope you like it.
@@JamesPetit1 I wanted to do a light or medium gray but thought it would show dirt easily so I went with snow camo. Figured it would hide dirt better and help mask any installation errors. I’m usually not a fan of camo but I saw it in a guys boat last week and looked pretty good. Should be cooler and easier on the feet

Movavi. My son in law uses for his church work. He’s the one that made my intro and exit videos. I will still be doing my editing for a while on my iphone/GoPro account but playing with the software on the side until I figure it out. It’s just an extension of my love for my bass fishing “hobby”.
I just loaded clipchamp and trying to figure it out. You live Movavi ?
@@JamesPetit1 not sure yet. Seems like it could be “simple” enough. Paid for lifetime sub at $79. Son in law likes it. I need to play with it a while in the back ground but for now I’ll use GoPro Quick on my phone since I’m familiar with it. I think there are many more possibilities with Movavi
