Harmony Hotshots Jazz Band
The Harmony Hotshots is a traditional jazz band featuring loosely defined improvisational arrangements. We are in Northern Colorado and started performing in 2022. We welcome good musicians of any age who would like to learn traditional jazz, and, of course, we welcome skilled trad players as well.
The Harmony Hotshots work closely with the Northern Colorado Traditional Jazz Society to expand the community of traditional jazz fans both on-stage and in our ever-growing audience.
This live recording was made January 26, 2025 in Ft. Collins, Colorado. Ted Turner (leader, banjo, vocals), Andrew Vogt (clarinet, saxophones, vocals), Reece Pullen (drums), Chris Norton (bass), Mark Manges (trumpet, vocals), Fred Smith (piano), Steve Tyler (trombone). We feature guest vocalist Brian Tyler in this rendition.

"I Wan'na Be Like You (The Monkey Song)" is a lively tune from Disney's 1967 animated film *The Jungle Book*. Composed by the Sherman Brothers, Richard and Robert, the song is performed by King Louie, the orangutan, voiced by Louis Prima, and Baloo the bear, voiced by Phil Harris. In this memorable number, King Louie expresses his desire to acquire the secret of fire from Mowgli to become more human-like.
The Sherman Brothers aimed to infuse a jazzy, Dixieland vibe into the song, reflecting King Louie's swinging nature. They envisioned him as "the king of the swingers," a jazz man of the jungle. When they presented the idea to Louis Prima, he humorously responded, "You want to make a monkey out of me? You got me!"
The recording sessions were particularly dynamic. Louis Prima and his band laid down the initial tracks, with Prima's energetic performance setting the tone. The scat dialogue between King Louie and Baloo was a product of two separate sessions. Prima recorded his part first, expecting Baloo to mimic his scats. However, Phil Harris chose to improvise, creating a unique and spontaneous exchange that added to the song's charm.
Over the years, "I Wan'na Be Like You" has been covered by various artists and remains a beloved classic in Disney's musical repertoire. - Chat GPT
