I had this same question when we were having uyu benam last year, out of curiosity I asked my father if uyu means ghost(bhoot) then are we offering and celebrating so grandly for them?then my father explain how uyu is misinterpreted by people as ghost but it is not,he told me that uyu means spirit and we are asking for his blessings from then I realised like orom is used to describe the ghost.i think all of this is happening because the generation ahead of us are not actually passing down there knowledge to the younger generation like I have asked elder people to narrate story of our people but idk why they always refuse or say they don't know.from an early age children are sent to Christian, hindu school( and even school having name such as abo tani,donyi polo are christian school and )it is obvious that they will never be teach about our ancestors or culture in that type of schools and the impact can be seen now as many cannot speak their own native language,i myself am not fluent in galo but now I am trying to learn and i was researching more about our people and came across your channel it is so nice to see you preach about our culture please continue to do so and i wish many more elders were like you in terms of sharing knowledge 🙏🏻
