How to make a steam bending box for woodworking
Переглядів 1,9 тис.3 роки тому
I show how I make my steam bending boxes that I use to make my furniture with. My boxes are made from Form Ply and use an electric urn bought from Ebay as the steam generator. This box is extremely easy to make and the first one I made in 2012 has done over a hundred steams sessions and is still going good
Resawing Long Wide Timber Boards With A Shop Made Jig
Переглядів 14 тис.4 роки тому
Make a simple jig for your bandsaw to perfectly resaw long wide boards. I have resawn 400mm wide boards at over 2 metres in length using this jig. Its easy to make and costs the same as a few bags of decent quality peanuts

Rejuvenate and Flatten Warped Veneer
Переглядів 10 тис.4 роки тому
Rejuvenate and flatten warped veneer super easy and very cheap. Dont go out and purchase a commercial veneer rejuvenation solution when it is so easy to make yourself. I show how to make this mix, how to apply it, flatten your veneers and then dry them so they stay flat.
Making A Shaper Jig For Woodworking

How to make a jig for shaping multiple pieces of timber to precise dimensions for your furniture. This can either be used on a router table or a spindle moulder.
Two Stage Vacuum Press For Woodworking
Переглядів 21 тис.5 років тому
Hi everyone, since I took this video down a year ago I have received dozens of requests to put it back up, so hear it is. Watching it is not easy I know as I am the worst person ever to narrate and talk in these videos, so apologies for this but hopefully you will get the gist of what I am talking about so that you can go ahead and make you own vacuum press for cheap. Make and set up a two stag...
Sorry, but this looks like an ironing board to me.
Not everyone has to like it so that's cool, thanks for watching
@@darrenoatesfinefurniture3648 I didn't say I didn't like it, in fact it's a great design.
Stunning !! But I do wonder with all the time and effort to veneer the centre piece, would a solid piece of jarrah been cheaper?
Thanks very much. I wish that were the case that I could just use a solid piece of timber. Unfortunately due to timber movement depending on the ambient humidity levels I would not be able to make this piece with a floating top. I would have to use another method to fix the top to the base. By having the veneered top this totally eliminates timber movement. Hope this made sense. Cheers and thanks for watching
Nice job! What type of wood is that?
Thanks very much, the wood is Jarrah from Western Australia
Thank you very much for the inspiring video and amazing workmanship.
Thanks very much, means a lot, cheers and thanks for watching
The sheer number of jigs, fixtures and template you have made for everything is awe inspiring. The increase in accuracy in reproducing pieces is obvious.
Thanks very much, yes all these jigs pay for themselves in a very short time, cheers
Love the way you work, just curious why double plunge with the domino? Around 10:15
Thanks very much. I double plunge usually on the substrate only to give a little bit of wiggle room when putting these together. I find the wider settings on the Domino too wide for this. Cheers
oh interesting I’ll give it a shot! Thanks
@@JoesWorkbench most welcome
Watching from Vancouver Island 🏝️ 🇨🇦👍
Hello from Sydney Australia, cheers and thanks for dropping by
Very Nice ! great precision of the domino layout and their use in the design. Thank you!
Thanks very much, definitely appreciated
Very Fine Job 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thankyou very much
Grear projekt, good film!!!
Thankyou very much
A testament to how good jigs make things look easy. When the truth is 1: building jigs isn’t “easy” 2: the amount of space they eventually take up is nuts!
absolute truth there on both accounts, cheers and thanks for watching
If I didn't built floating top tables my self I'd say ...oh that looks easy lol you make it seem so easy!, love the wood choice!
Thankyou very much, cheers
I enjoyed your videos so much in the past that I was ready to post my first UA-cam comment as I always lie low and don't bother. I wanted to tell you to keep it up and I was worried by some of your commentary that you were getting discouraged. To my huge disappointment you were gone and I thought what a loss! Glad to see you back and please keep the videos coming as much as possible whether narrating or not. I can imagine it takes a lot of time to put these out so thanks very much. Keith from California, USA
Thankyou very much, most appreciated and I really mean that, great to hear
Beautiful work! Thank you for sharing!
Thankyou very much
Is that a 16" jointer?
20" Italian made Griggio
What gun do you use? incredible work!!
Thanks very much, it's Worquip or Workwip I forgot how to spell it. $120 on eBay
A great build Darren, thanks for posting. I am in awe of your work, workshop and methodology. I fully appreciate the time that goes into building this with the amount of jigs you have to have every piece come out the same. It takes the guess work out and the project comes together faster and accurate. I have mainly been doing furniture repair and restoration and yes it has its own challenges, but watching your video has me yearning to create beautiful functional pieces out of amazing timbers we have available to us in Australia. Thank you again for sharing your work 😊
Thanks very much indeed for you extremely nice words, and thankyou for taking the time, much appreciated. Yes we are very lucky here with our timbers although they are starting to get pretty hard to get now. Cheers and thanks for watching
Beautiful! Would've loved to see you make those templates though. Laying out an ellipse shape always gives me trouble. Just one of those things that I struggle with every time. New to the channel, so I'll go check out your other videos. Maybe you've addressed it already.
Love your setup and your methods. I learnt how to make proper moulder copy templates from your videos, and I'm pretty sure I saw the virutex lipping planer in one of your posts for the first time - now it's on my tool rack. Thanks for that!
Thanks very much, yes I love the Lipping Planer, definitely worth having. Cheers and thanks for watching
Beautiful build and finished piece Darren. Interested to know what machine you were using to do shaping on the legs (around 46-47 minutes in from the start of the video), sort of looked like a spindle sander on steroids. Was it some sort of spindle Moulder? Cheers from the far south coast, Jenny
Thanks very much, yes I am using an Aussie made LS Barker spindle moulder fitted with a segmented cutter head. Cheers and thanks for watching
very beautiful design Darren. Any chance of you doing a video on the piece that is sitting on your vacuum press and thanks for making these full builds
Thanks very much, unfortunately my channel would require a shit load more views before ever giving up the secrets to that table, but thanks very much for watching, cheers
Also what 2 part epoxy do you use ?
I use an Australian product called Techniglue, awesome stuff
Great to see true perfection keep it up
Thanks very much, most appreciated
Great job sir! I am trying to formulate a compliment of your work. Nothing I can come up with does justice to your craftsmanship. I guess speechless will have to suffice. I really enjoy your content. Thank you for your effort. It's appreciated.
Wow, thankyou very much, most appreciated
what brand is that big orange F clamps?
Jorganson, best clamps on the market
I always learn some little thing each time I watch one of your projects and that is truly appreciated!.
Thanks very much, this comment made my day, cheers
Very nice! Love your shop, that must be a joy to work in.
Thankyou, yes it took me a while to get it like this but I love working here. Cheers
Just image what fantastic stuff you really do if wasn't for the limitations of your beginner's tools!😄 Hehe, man I turned green with envy just seeing your tools... You do Amazing work!👍
Thanks very much for dropping by, much appreciated
When wood obeys the master, Bravo 👏
Thankyou very much
Looks like you got showered and changed to go out and then thought I’ve just got time for a quick glue-up.
Thanks for noticing and for watching the whole video, much appreciated
Very nice mate. Is the accent timber in the top she oak?
Thanks Andrew, it's actually Northern Silky Oak, cheers mate
Thanks for sharing Darren and yeah, Blue Harvest for the win!
Just a piece of art Marc from Belgium
Thankyou, very nice to hear
Lovely piece.
Thankyou very much
You need a Mirka random orbital sander and vacuum. It will save you heaps of time. Another fine piece of furniture.
Thanks very much, I have heard good things about the Mirka, cheers and thanks for watching
Wonderful work Darren, I especially enjoyed the sanding 😅
Thanks very much, I'm happy I got the sanding part across, I really hate it, cheers
So many great tips and tricks in here for anyone wanting to produce a line of products. The sign that the bandsaw is detensioned, the jigs and fixtures with work instructions including bit sizes, the bucket of hooks for the spray booth with the bit size... stellar. Did you do a six sigma or Toyota Production System training at some point?
Thanks very much, no I just spent twenty plus years in the military, very good for this line of work, cheers
Beautiful made and very pleasant to watch thy.
Thanks very much, most appreciated
Yep. Been there. 🤦🏼♂️
Scared the shit out of me
Beautiful work Darren! All the best in the new year looking forward to subscribing to your channel. Cheers. 🎉
Thankyou very much, definitely appreciated, cheers
Another lovely piece,
thankyou, much appreciated
Well Done - Cheers
Thanks very much
These videos are great to watch. Nick Pedulla mentioned you in his bent lamination bench build so I knew I had to watch his inspiration, and you didn't disappoint. Just amazing and can't wait to start adding bent features in my tables.
Awesome, yes it was extremely kind of Nick to promote my channel, really hope I don't disappoint. Cheers and thanks for dropping by
@ looking forward to seeing more
Happy New Year Oatesy 😊
Hey thanks mate, first I have seen of you on UA-cam, happy new year to you too, cheers Andrew
@darrenoatesfinefurniture3648 first time Ive seen your channel mate, Ill enjoy going through your previous videos 😊👍🏼
@@andrewmundenandcadfellmast4624thanks mate, not too many to watch at the moment, have fun
That’s cool 😎 all the best for the new year
Thankyou, much appreciated
This is beautiful. I can't decide if this is a fine furniture making channel, or one on the art of making jigs. I'll be honest and say that I'd love to see how you made the wheels and the method you used to make them attach and work.
Thanks very much, yes not happy I didn't film the making of the wheels, I have no idea why I didn't. They are just veneered solid timber shaped into a circle then rounded on my router table, so pretty simple. Cheers and thanks for watching
Very cool. Thanks for sharing. I have had so much trouble with the glue and tape trick. It never seems to work. The tape always tears. Do you pull it off early or wait till it fully cures?
Artistry and technical skill combined, another master piece Darren 👍
Thankyou very much
Hi Darren, beautiful build. Just a question if I may. You put both legs in the jig at the same time. Wouldn’t the outside one be a different shape to the one on the inside or have I forgotten my geometry (many, many moons ago)? Cheers from the far south coast, Jenny
Thanks very much. I am gluing up one leg at a time, the second lot you are seeing are what's called the packers which protect the laminations from the clamps and evens out the pressure. Hope this explains what you asked, cheers
My best to you for 2025, Just a beautiful piece, made with talent and style.
Thankyou very much, most appreciated
