Hello there Matt I bought a National Tricone Square neck about ten years ago I was so blown away by the sound that I I bought a Spanish necked one six months later. I have been a guitar player all my life and have owned many knock ofrfs over the years I won't mention any brands but you could guess I am sure . My Nationals are all steel and are heavy ,also the intonation is perfect . You mentioned fingerpicking and I will say that the best sound is with plastic thumb and finger picks . I own a number of good guitars ,Gibson ,Martin ,but since I bought the National steels I play them about ninety percent of the time .I would advise anyone who is interested in the sound to save and buy the real thing . The copies are not nearly as good . Just my humble opinion.Check out some of my tunes to hear the sound

To take a jazz standard such as Moanin' and turn it into a swag country song is ingenious. There should definitely be a full-length cover of the song in this style because it is surprisingly fitting.
