Just a gal in love with all things invertebrate (and occasionally vertebrate)!
I observe pretty much everything I post here on iSpot - great resource, by the way!

A random Leiodid? Ptiliid? beetle of mystery...
I get it now We need slowmo guys to capture these types of guys so we get what we desired from this video 😓
They're so adorable! I'm so glad that there are those who are willing to help our lovely wasp friends!
i've seen a lot of these guys on my daily trips to nearby stores (for necessities like food etc.)
Very beautiful creature :3
I mean yea..poor slug! That would be aweful to experience
Lmfaooo “pore mites” if anything☠️😂
Poor slugs??? You're kidding right?😂
No! I love slugs, they're some of my favourite animals. I can't imagine how painful it must be to be constantly eaten by tiny little mouths. I've seen some slugs that have so many mites on them that you can barely see their body, it's like a moving carpet of white on them :(
@@theinvertebratequeen I suppose you're right.. I wouldn't wish that on any creature.
🤮🤮🤮
None of my slugs have mites. Good luck with them!
Wtf💀
Hi all! I've seen a few comments mentioning how people are looking for videos of froghoppers jumping. There is one main reason that it might be very difficult to find such videos and that is due to the speed at which a froghopper jumps. On average, a froghopper jump lasts around 0.5ms. Unfortunately, it can be very difficult to capture something within 0.0005 seconds without adequate equipment which sadly I personally don't have :( When professionals researched them, a special 2000fps camera had to be used with a 0.25ms exposure time which only resulted in 5 images of the froghopper jumping - these images can be found online though it's true that they might leave something to be desired :/ Don't lose hope though - the best way to see their amazing jumps are to go out into nature and find one for yourself! Quite often you can't even see the jump, you just hear the characteristic *click* sound :) They're amazing creatures, I would implore anyone and everyone to go out and try to find some - you may even find something equally interesting along the way! :)
Picnic nightmare !
Poor things just like a sweet treat lol! ❤
@@theinvertebratequeen over time they have gone from being something that terrifies me to something I respect and admire, I don’t even shoo them away now !
first comment in this video
so im assuming we're all here from that one short that said it had 500gs of acceleration when it jumps lol
yep..
Yep
Indeed
lmaoo yeah
Yes
I use to see these Al the time as a kid but not so much anymore….are they going extinct?
Like all wildlife nowadays, it seems. If you're interested in doing more research, froghoppers are also known as spittlebugs due to the way the nymphs hide in white frothy secretions underneath leaves.
it jumped away in between frames. there is literally not a single frame capturing the jump.
Just came from a yt short saying it had 500gs of acceleration lol
Yeah i was disappointed he didn't show the insect actually jump. So i searched myself lol@@User-g2c7t
I put in 0.25x. Still can't see it
@@User-g2c7tyo, same! Was it a guy who demonstrated it on a lil green mechanism?
@@ARIGATOUIKKEIKELmao yeah, was so disappointed he didn't show the bug jumping that I took it upon myself.
Every summer, when they reappear in my kitchen, they have a reserved spot where i make fruits available to them. I learned that fruit flies share 98.5% of our DNA and to tell the truth, I like their company, they’re curious and funny little beings. People have to stop genociding insects in their homes. As we say here in Québec, “ small ones don’t eat big ones”…
He looks curious about his reflection. Bless him ❤️
0:15 he speaks
Looks like a herring gull to me.
I only found out yesterday that Herring Gulls are in pretty serious decline - so much so that they've now been red-listed by the Species of Conservation Concern in Britain.
Great little sequence!
What an alien looking creature
Beautiful stream
Whatever it is, it looks pretty cool. I like the yellow colour.
Oh, GOOD filming of behaviour. Not easy, so well done
Those are maple seeds
The heads on the larva make me think of babies wrapped in blankets, or cornucopia. Just...adorable!
Nice shot! I've subscribed!
WOW 😁
Congratulations for your impressive creation. I have 2 adult beetles that emerged in December and they are still alive but unfortunately they are both females so I had to buy new grubs 10 in number and there is a chance to get both genders. Wish me luck, they have already started pupating now!
Every August, A Tiger Bee Fly, Xenox tigrinus, comes and sits on my wooden porch railing. It will sometimes fly off, then return. I can't tell if it's just one fly or multiples that want to sit there, but I see it (them) every summer!
hell yeah v cute! what is that mouse munching on? I'd like to feed the mice haha i feed birds so why not mice
We had left out some generic bird seed in a dish for them but the mice seem to really prefer eating the sunflower seeds!
Invertebrates are so underrated and misunderstood and it's great that there are people like me and you who are trying to change that.
Catherine is such a beautiful looking spider.
That's such a nice looking spider.
Playing dead so he can try to fool us..he wants to live and he should.
might have a parasite...
I've been caught out a few times by the amount of noise they can make whilst foraging like this - thinking that I'm about to see something larger!
It's the 'Egret Shuffle"!
Really good!
Cute springtail.
You're too young to remember TISWAS (a Saturday morning kid's show): but this weevil is doing a classic example of the Dying Fly dance.
That doesnt really look like a robin but maybe its just young 🤷♂
It's a European Robin - you might be thinking of an American Robin :)
@@theinvertebratequeen Oh ok
Double Tap.
Cool 😎
Thats a hornet..
When wasps are halfr dead like this one is, they can still move their stingers and can still sting you. My dad got stung by a half dead wasp one time that he thought he killed but it was still half alive and it was still strong enough to sting him. Always make sure the wasp is completely dead before touching it because they can still sting you if you don't.
I remember running over a poor honey bee when I was little. And I stupidly touched it, thinking it wouldn't sting me. Of course I was wrong. And I deserved it.
When I was younger, I recall making the decision to go pee in a bush. I saw a wasp lying on its back due to the chilly weather outside. I decided to lightly piss on it, and when I did, it immediately stood up and took off. That wasp was saved by my hot pee.
Lovely observation: thanks!
Not many people seem to like fruit flies but this is such a beautiful educational video 😊
