Moral: it’s important to remember that verbs which are often possessive in English are usually non-possessive in italiano. We TAKE a picture or a shower. We HAVE breakfast. In Italian, these are not things you have, but rather things you do. Possessive verbs, prendere, avere, etc, only apply in italiano when you actually possess the item in question. If the object in the sentence is an item, then you’re free to use possessive, I.e. prendere una penna dalla tavola, avere due gatti neri, etc. But if the object of the sentence is something which is done rather than physically possessed, Italian uses a more precise verb for conjugation.
