Out of sync tempo wise but absolutely wonderful to hear! Not easy to play. Just wished they were more in tune beat wise. I would say two seperate personal types playing together. I couldn't have done it better so cudos! Who am I to judge 😉

Favorite stuff. Felix wrote it when he was 13 and the #2 when he was 14. My favorites and this performance is the benchmark. What a couple!!!!!!!!

Love this piece. It was also used on our Weather Network channel in 1990 for a 1 minute local forecast segment.

In all the classical piano repertoire, this last movement is the most "fun" both to play and to listen to. In the late 1970s as a young man, I first heard it over the classical radio station in Denver and purchased a couple of copies to put them aside for the hopeful day I'd find (1) a room with two pianos and (2) an amateur classical pianist like myself. Well, as luck would have it in 1980, I met a young faculty member of languages employed at the University of Colorado in Boulder who was working on the Mozart 25th (I was working on the Mendelssohn 2nd). And behold: the University had an Imag music building with a couple of rooms with two Yamaha grands in them. The happiest days of my life was driving up to Boulder after work and spending two or so hours practicing this movement with this young professor. One's human abilities amazes one! Today, 35 years later, I have been struck down with peripheral neuropathy which makes even this brief expose difficult to write. Last year I gave my 1885 George Steck baby grand as a wedding present to my nephew as the disease has destroyed all tactile feeling in both my hands and feet such that I can never play again. If anyone is reading this and enjoys classical music, find that room with two pianos and that competent partner and enjoy a high-point in your life. It's better than sex! You never know when it will be too late!

I once heard a background story about this piece being written for two pianos because Mendelssohn wanted to play with his sister~ and the playful chasing tempo reflects his boyish adoration for the instruments and his sibling ~~~

When I think that Mendelssohn was but a boy when he wrote this..... It is beyond wonderful.

Just as Mozart wrote his splendid double concerto for sister Nannerl and himself!

As a 15-year old, Mendelssohn was already entirely himself. This one is perhaps the loveliest middle movement in his entire piano concerto output, breathing pure innocence and sibling love, as he wrote it for sister Fanny and himself.

I've never heard this piece before to my knowledge and I think it feels a bit rushed too. On the other hand, I keep "rewinding," or whatever we do today, a lot of Mendelssohn because it is so dense, packed with gems I want to savor. So of course it might seem too fast for me. I may have to hunt for this album.

Why does this sound like it's in F major?

Of course it's not too fast in tempo! It's absolutely the right tempo...it's wonderful and exciting!
