Malkmus was more open here than he is in most interviews. See, there's just an eensy weensy chance that he doesn't share a lot of his fans' political bigotry
Loosen up man. I know this (vid) is the past but dont help the fuckers strengthen the divide. Eh. Who am i but just another slave in this service industry. Your right on and a funny smart mother ......Daze still young!
Jimi Hendrix sold a product in the form of an album and his labor in the form of performances to accumulate wealth and get his name out there, he signed contractual agreements with record companies and sold his product and his labor to the masses and allowed it to expand his fan base and travel the world. That is pure capitalism my friend. If not for Capitalism there wouldn't be products with Hendrix's name on them and he wouldn't be widely regarded by virtually everyon as the greatest guitarist
Capitalism isn't "American" ALL developed nations have a form of capitalism. J.K. Rowling is a multi millionaire off of capitalism as is Eric Clapton, Ravi Shankar, etc. No economic system truly appreciates artists like capitalism.
Think about it, Pavement is a business, they sold shows, albums and merchandise, to accumulate wealth and allow the members to make a comfortable living. Used that accumulated wealth to purchase better equipment, record better albums, and play at larger venues in various countries, the whole time increasing their "profits" from their art. I love Pavement and Malkmus, but really the basic concepts of Capitalism are what has allowed him to live comfortably solely from his art. Voluntary support.
Well I mean idealogy aside he actually likes Malkmus music. He is a big fan of old school punk rock and indie. You don't have to be a liberal to enjoy good music. Im not.
I think it's nice that they didn't get into politics! Two people that probably really disagree about a lot, but music rightfully should transcend all of that.
And...why is that? Beyond your foolish stereotyping, that is. I've been alt before most of you were a twinkle in your mothers eye, yet.....if I must watch a "news" network, it is Fox.
Fox News has no artistic merit.Stephen is just have fun with the douche host!He is not being pompous, just having fun with this lame interview. Can you not see that?
Dandy's fine...might want to keep the "Nah's" to a minimum as well. Good day sir...Oh you reminded me, check out the Dandy Warhols, you might like 'em.
Surprised to Stephen on Fox News but that was actually a damn good music interview. A rare thing for fox. I think Stephen wanted to talk about the economy more than the host did. Stephen tried to get political a couple times with the little economical jokes but the host didn't bite and continued with the questions about his music. The host was overly kissing Malkmus's ass but still a decent music interview. Not what I was expecting when I clicked on "Stephen Malkmus on Red Eye"
@MEYERS3000 He's joking... Look, I hate FOX News as much as the next guy, but to not recognize this as quality interview ABOUT music, then you've proven everyone's point... That is; it doesn't matter if you're Left (Liberal) or Right (Conservative), if you're an extreme on either end without an open ear, then you can never be open-minded. Picking a side (i.e. Left - and blindly hating the Right) without knowing why makes you just as pathetic.
Who at Matador came up with this idea?
Back when Gutfeld was tolerable.

i just love how subtle he is with trashing on fox here. he’s just slipping in little bits of goodness.
something tells me he only accepted an interview with fox to sneakily have a dig at them 🙃
god i hate greg gutfield lol
I'm proud of both of these guys. Way to give it a whirl. Greg's clearly geeked up about Stephen going through with this.
Proud of Greg Gutfeld? 😂😂😂🤦 Get better idols, man. Gutfeld sucks. Stephen's cool though.
In my family “jick” is slang for an alcoholic
Malkmus was more open here than he is in most interviews. See, there's just an eensy weensy chance that he doesn't share a lot of his fans' political bigotry
His forced snickers and clawing eagerness are unbearable
Why was he on this show? Bizarre!
I think this is one of the better interviews I've seen him get or give.
WTF? Stephen Malkmus on Fox News??
Loosen up man. I know this (vid) is the past but dont help the fuckers strengthen the divide. Eh. Who am i but just another slave in this service industry. Your right on and a funny smart mother ......Daze still young!
I don't think Malkmus is especially left wing. Just a hunch. I imagine he's pretty centre. Fuck off
He is centrist, most likely. He's referred to liberals and conservatives in contexts that suggest he's neither
Stephen is too smart for these clowns
"He knows Guitar like I know Gout" theres a story there I know
I encourage him, I would totally go on fox news and milk the cow because this is one bad cow.
"It's insidious, like......capitalism" lmfao
Is this real?
greg sokoloff Why it couldn’t be real? (non-US citizen here)
Of course it is. Lol. 10 years ago when you asked that, theres was no deepfaking going on like there is today.
cutting off Stephenlike that, what a douche
There were definitely some tape delay issues on Malkmus' end, and his job as host is to keep interviews moving.
Maybe Steve went on Fox because they have the most viewers in every time slot by far.
Or maybe Fox News isnt THAT bad?
@@theredbearcat393Or maybe... Yes Yes they are THAT bad. Fox News is vile.

jimi hendrix allowed himself to go far, not capitalism...you are way off base kiddo

Its funny because Stephen Malkmus is definitely a capitalist, you cant even argue that.
Well I mean idealogy aside he actually likes Malkmus music. He is a big fan of old school punk rock and indie. You don't have to be a liberal to enjoy good music. Im not.
lol you watch fox? wow. thats all i can say.
And you dont?? wow. thats all i can say.
I think it's nice that they didn't get into politics! Two people that probably really disagree about a lot, but music rightfully should transcend all of that.
Crooked Rain is better.
And...why is that? Beyond your foolish stereotyping, that is. I've been alt before most of you were a twinkle in your mothers eye, yet.....if I must watch a "news" network, it is Fox.
I dont think the host is a douche, I think he genuinely respects Malkmus music.
Both can be true. Gutfeld _is_ a douche, I know that much.
Not being from America, I find this interview really weird.
Being from America, I find this interview _very_ weird - because it is.
Fox News has no artistic merit.Stephen is just have fun with the douche host!He is not being pompous, just having fun with this lame interview. Can you not see that?
Slanted and Enchanted was a fucking great album though.
thank you steven malcoms good luck with the uh cd
jick...the j from jagger and the m from mick
get out the vote stupid ass --- nice lock step groupthink libtarb horseshit -- thumbs down to your lefty closed mind.
Dandy's fine...might want to keep the "Nah's" to a minimum as well. Good day sir...Oh you reminded me, check out the Dandy Warhols, you might like 'em.
Hopefully that's the last time you say swag
Actually an OK interview. Go check out the Pavement interview on 180 minutes for comparison.
did he say "bandtastic"?
I'm glad it didn't turn political as Stephen probably would have probably come out with some leftie bullshit anyway, as all musicians seem to.
You'll find more and more that jealousy and delusional self-importance are the juice on which mainstream culture, belief-systems and hierarchy run.
Quite simple, you see. Jealous people who don't have half the talent that Malkmus does call him 'pretentious'.
Kinda insidious, like capitalism.
Why is Stephen on Fox news?!? They still suck ass... even if this was pretty cool.
so funny, I think he was making a lot of digs at fox with "I don't know what ghetto that came out of" and "this economic climate" and what not
And especially the capitalism dig.
