There are a couple of things viewers should keep in mind when watching this video. First the ¾’’ insulated? unit is never used for wood windows a 3/8’’ works quite well if insulated glass in what you want. The construction used here permanently captures the glass, we can only hope the glass doesn’t fail because you will need a new sash to go with that new glass. Accoya wood, I have done some research, and it falls short on quality, availability and pricing. Mahogany is stable, affordable and available. The weatherstripping used here is door seal not designed for this application there are pile brush seals specifically designed for the sides of a sash and don’t require the sash to be pushed out of the stop area. These sashes are SDL unit’s not true divided light. Accoya is a fast grown pine as you can see from the growth rings, it has been chemically treated as you can see by the color. Keep in mind pressure treated lumber can last up to 40 years, so one could argue a PT window would last as long as a Accoya. It is not quite accurate to say you will have a window that will last a lifetime, the wood has a 50-year warranty but does the window design and construction have the same warranty. Customers deserve all the facts when investing their hard-earned money. Most custom windows come with a 1 to 5 year warranty and you are on your own after that.
I would like to know if it is possible to make 4 windows that are 36 x 96 ea. Each window would have a single piece of glass but would be made to look like a traditional divided lite window. These four windows would be side by side in an exterior wall. I believe the ceiling height in this room is 9'. Anyone's thought's on the subject would be appreciated.
mutins. I love old world. house effects hope it works. ..
Nice video, I got some good tips. Although when glazing I always ensure the tape running along the bottom rail is in one length and butt jointed down to, not mitred. I feel having a continuous unbroken barrier running along the entire bottom where water is always running will ensure weathertightness. Whereas with mitres there are joints there in each corner asking for water ingress.
Absolutely beautiful windows! Is there any way you could give me a general estimate at the window you showed at the end? Thanks
For production, it's the only way to go...
great vid bud! i'm doing a geodesic dome by trillium domes right now.. using this product. you have any experience using this with twin wall polycarbonate and wood? thanks!!
Fantastic machine! That little puff of dust at the 2:34 mark made me wish I had on 3D safety glasses
Good solution there. We build front doors and our solution is that our stock is thicker. If needed to hide window spacers, we make the dividers wider.
that's neat, the way you miter the corners! I'm searching for the glazing tape.
Try ‘putty tape’
Really good presentation. Curious since Spacia is costly when compared to other options, do you get any push back from your customers on cost versus using TDL? Also do you get any comments about the pillars used to hold the vacuum glass apart?
Nice work, and nice machine!
Огромное спасибо за безценный совет. Привет из России
Can beveled glass be used on a SDL wood window? Colonial style pattern for example
I don't know how. The bevels would need to be on each light - right. Go to my website, fill out the form and we can talk about it.
Very interesting and informative video. Question: What is the cost difference between Spacia (sp?) glass and standard double-strength glass? Also, how do conventional thermopane glass and Spacia glass windows compare in thermal performance to single-glazed windows with well-sealed storm windows in place? Thanks.
Well done! What make and model are the cutters?
Probably was Riverside tooling which is now Peak Toolworks. However, we're doing it CNC now.
That's an impressive machine!
Maka chisel mortiser is so fast ,that even todays cnc machines are slow when they are in line in factoryuse example door locks machining. Old 1970-80 maka machines beats ewerything what i have seen in speed but those are not so versatile as cnc when you must do several types of machining.
Окна красивые. Но в условиях стремительного наступления похолодания в зимний период они не годятся по причине высоких тепло-потерь, очень жаль!
I'm not sure you got the entire picture. At the end of the video I introduce VIG, Vacuum Insulated Glass, which is better than most standard Insulated Glass. It's a super warm solution in an amazingly thin package.
Window construction is fascinating because it is both structural and decorative.
Технику безопасности я знаю как свои 3 пальца)))
Красиво и практично!👍🏻
Can you please tell me the model number, thickness, and width plus brand name and part number of the best tape you have discovered for this application. There hundreds of different tapes, sizes, types etc. Thank you much!
Thank you so much for making a video that clearly explains the design of and how windows work. Homeowners need to understand that wood windows like you show will last for hundreds of years as opposed to vinyl or clad windows that end up in the landfill every 20 years. Great information that every homeowner must know.

GREAT JOB... THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO. I found it very helpful.
Pointless. Why on Earth would you make a video and not have a piece of glass cut to demonstrate how to install it. Sorry but no it didn’t “help”.
I found this very helpful and had no problem not seeing the actual glass. This man shared his time to help people and I don't think any of that is "pointless" myself, but I'm just another viewer.
if you need help showing him pushing glass onto the tape, good luck .
@@truccka4253 Sorry, I made this video for a particular glazing company and was just winging it. We had no plan to glaze that rejected sash but it was good for a tape demo.
Looks great. Is this weather tight with just the tape? Or do you need to add any caulking or glazing putty as well? Also, can you share what type of tape you are using? Is it similar to butyl tape? Thx
My take was this is used to bed the glass but glazing compound would still be needed on the opposite side of the glass. That being said I have never used glazing tape.
Really like the 45 degree corners, not sure I grasped the upside down getting the tape off bit sufficiently to risk it though

Quick, informative, and really helpful. That corner-cutting trick I'm really sad I didn't know 20 years ago. Oh well, now I do :) Thanks!
Really like the way you do the corners, it's a quick way to get a precise cut without a gap and with zero fuss!

An open mortise does not require "haunching" but a through mortise does. When a tenon is cut it's the full height of the rail and will not fit into the through mortise. The outer portion of the tenon must be removed and trimmed to the length of the mortise. Furthermore, it can't be just cut off, it also must be relieved to accommodate the stile profile. This machining setup and operation does each of these steps.
