Having this happen to me as an adult, I was greeted by the "complete" version of myself. I understood that our bodies can only hold a small part of who we are and earth is our school from which we go "home" to afterwards. I would be willing to bet that your "angel" was the complete version of yourself. Which would explain why she was caucasian. She also wouldn't look like you exactly bc our bodies are only a small part of our spirit. Mine had aspects of my appearance, but was "more".
