Hey Jon and Jeff, I have a question I'm hoping to run by you. I'm a middle school PE teacher and just finished up my first full year. I was able to make some good connections with the kids(mostly surface level conversations) and really enjoyed my first year, but, I feel like I need to be doing so much more with the platform I've been given. I'm unsure how to truly impact these kids and make a lasting difference in their lives. I want to inspire them to grow and pass on wisdom to them in this short window of time that I get with them as their teacher. I wanted to reach out and ask if you have any resources on how I can better reach these kids or if you have any practical advice that comes to mind. Any bit helps, thanks for your time and for all you do! PS. I teach at a public school so I know I'm limited as far as sharing the gospel. I want to learn how I can share Jesus with these kids too, in a way that is respectful and appropriate, but this question is mostly focused on general life stuff. How can I help them become better people, etc.

This was really good guys! Your explanation of the culture’s voices and skewed thinking in the church regarding masculinity is excellent.

My favorite is Moses's call to kill witches, in Exodus 22:18: "Do not allow a sorceress to live." I love that in this day and age there are still morons who believe in this nonsense

Industrialization is a major issue for everybody, not just men, and I would like to ask, who placed men into this? It wasn't women who forced men into the workplace. In fact, if the women's rights movement has shown anything, they wanted to work! For it was men who held other men to this standard of work! Only other men have made it so hard on men to be the sole worker, and to work as hard as them do. To end my comment off, I would like to ask one more question: What can we as men do to curve this stereotype? How can we fight this oppression we have been placed and will continue to place other men in?

The school doesn’t cater each individual type of learner. Some are tactile some are auditory and some are kinesthetic learners. But the school systems are not targeting girls completely. I struggled as a woman a lot in school especially the younger years. I’ve met plenty of men who never were the more “physical” type you were referring to that did fine in kindergarten :) we all just think differently and some school systems/curriculum aren’t built for all the types of learners

That's exactly what I was going to say! Focussing on JUST boys neglects the portion of the female or other demographic that also doesn't learn that way! Thank you for pointing this out!

  • @Regrettedink39

I think this is too general. Some girls are incredibly physical, and some boys are incredibly non-physical. I do like the idea of designing our school system towards helping children learn best. The best way i can say it is my brother should be taking more agricultural classes and I should be taking more cooking classes. Both of us are boys but we learn differently and want different things in our lives so our education system should cater to that.

Great episode! The factory illustration was fascinating, wasted human lives. I think I heard Jeremy Pryor recently explain how good home-based businesses are for families. Keeping the economic value in the home and working together as a family team to produce value and bring it to the world!

Perhaps that's why many Christian movies and shows kinda suck? We're presented with milquetoast dolts with first world problems struggling to perform the simplest of tasks in every area of their life and we're supposed to cheer for them for figuring out they can enjoy an air conditioned church. I'm sorry if I sound like a grouch but the formula sucks.

I sent in a question on this. I think the challenge with living this way is that it challenges the status quo and that makes people in the church profoundly uncomfortable. For my male friends who've experiences this, the pattern has generally been to withdraw from church involvement, to the point where we are present but not a lot more than that. Then I've seen a pattern where we live as those men at work, in other communities like sporting clubs or recreational groups because it's acceptable to be that way in those contexts. But we hold back at church because it ultimately leads to conflict. I'm not sure how to navigate such a dilemma.
