I've never seen anybody raise the blade on a v plow while in a heavy push before. That just seems wrong on every level. I guess, the gear reduction/lockers/good tires/chains/added weight. All add up. But man... that seems wrong and likely to add up to a potentially long walk.

well, you probably never had to deal with heavy packed ice and a plow which digs into the road.

@@lostmoose7352 haha. A lot more than what you might think. I'm close to 47 and gave been plowing snow in one form or another since I've been a little kid. Four wheelers, trucks, backhoes, etc. We also have a private road, very long driveways, and my father had tons of snow removal contracts. So, yeah. I know all about packed ice and roads, and plowing dirt roads where the plow digs in or scalps the road and makes it turn into a washboard.

@@lostmoose7352 it is very expensive. We're in upstate new york. So, nothing about packed European snow. But alot about opening up packed, drifted, thawed, and refrozen cement like ice and snow. I've seen some vids on here with guys in Europe having to open roads that are closed for winter. And some of those look like they might be 6-7' deep. Around my neck of the woods we can get 3' of snow and sometimes 4-6' drifts. We also don't close many roads for an entire season. With v-plows, we do what we can and sometimes have to take bites at multiple angles ro move enough snow off the road to be able to get a straight shot at another run straight down the middle. Wash,, rinse,, repeat. We also have tri-axle dump trucks with loads of salted sand, for extra ballast to try to keep the tires on the ground and maintain traction. On the steep hills and mountains, especially on switchbacks with steep grades, we use front-end loaders to open things up enough to get the dump trucks through. On our private rd, my families houses and the elderlies houses that need plowing I just try to stay ahead of it, and sometimes end up plowing 3-5 times to keep them open and clear.

I think a blower might have worked better even though it’s wet snow.
