Hi, I'm Darren. Welcome to my vlog.
I will be sharing my adventures at home and abroad, my goal is to see and experience as much of the world as possible.
I also have a disability (Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia) so some of what I do here will be facing the challenges this sets me, and hopefully showing how I overcome them.
Along the way I hope to inspire others to go out and see new places, face fears and challenges, try new things, and most importantly live life to the full!
So please join me on my travels and see what we find along the way, I'm sure it will be an adventure.

Hey is possible to get close to the lemurs at the park and feed them?
Not in the Lemurs Park, they try to keep you hands off there as the plan is to release them at a later date. However there are plenty of tours where you can interact with wild Lemurs, if you plan to do this make sure you are going with a reputable tour company, both for sustainable tourism and your own safety, Lemurs can carry Rabies, so it's important to not take risks and listen to your guide. On my first trip to Madagascar I actually fed an Indri (Largest species of Lemur) a banana out of my mouth, you can see a video of that in my Yorkshire Wildlife Park vlog when we're in the Lemur enclosure there. Definitely a once in a lifetime experience. I went with the same company both times, Espace Madagascar, I would highly recommend.
@ escape Madagascar thank you, I’m a flight attendant so is easy to get around with flights, always wanted to visit. Many thanks for the details :)
went as a kid my uncle took me loved it but it didn't have half the stuff it does nowadays
They put so much effort into every site, updating them and keeping them fresh. It's always worth a revisit.
Thanks for sharing your trip. We are planning a similiar trip. Where did you hire your guise and how much did it cost? What was your best experience? What would you avoid?
It's an amazing place to visit, glad to hear you are thinking of taking your own trip. I used Madagascar Circuits both times I visited, you can find their website here: www.madagascar-circuits.com/en/ It cost us around £2000 for their part of it, we did customise the route a tiny bit to give myself time to find the Elephant Bird nest site (towards the end of this series) Then there's flights and anything you want to do there that costs extra, most breakfasts and dinners are included in the cost. Best experience is a hard one, and I guess it really depends on your interests, for me I think I preferred the east coast (that trip wasn't vlogged) It has a lot more rainforests and wildlife, like the reserves in the beginning of this series. The journey to the west coast starts like that as you can see in this trip, but then becomes more desert landscapes. There's nothing I would say I would outright avoid, personally I prefer the nature side to the human side of it, and although it was all very interesting and I was grateful for their hospitality, I think would visit less small villages in future trips. And avoid ones where you are taken to look in their homes, for me it felt like I was being quite invasive to their personal space. But having said that, learning about their culture and customs, and how it varies across the country is very interesting, so I'd say it's about finding balance on how these parts of a trip are handled. I hope this helps you, I'm more than happy to answer any other questions you may have. Happy travelling.
@nextstopstapleton thanks for all the information! Happy Travels!
I realy like this zoo!!! amazing
It was a great zoo, I was really impressed by it!
Just so you know they are Red-legged seriemas not Secretarybirds. Great video though, thanks
Thank you, I even knew that, now I feel silly. It's not the first time they have come up on this channel either and I love them! To be fair I love Secretary Birds too. Thank you though, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
amazing castle
@@ATT7 It's a really beautiful site.
Owls aren't actually a very intelligent species, they're quite famously below average intelligence. They also spend most of their time sleeping, so when they come out to fly they fly for longer than they would in the wild
@elliemessenbird1690 I agree they are not intelligent in the way a crow or parrot is, but we can measure intelligence in a variety of ways. Owls brains are tied to more specific survival behaviours, for example little owls stash meat to grow maggots for food, and burrowing owls will collect dung to attract dung beatles. Flight wise it really depends on the species and time of year, Snowy owls for example migrate huge distances, where as in the summer barn owls can have a range as small as 1km, increasing to 6kms in the winter as food becomes less available. So although they cannot problem solve and be considered intelligent in the way or corvids or parrots are, like all animals they have an intelligence tied to their behavioural needs that should be encouraged via enclosure design and enrichment when kept in captivity.
sometimes, its look like in a parc not a garden!!! I lov the waterfalls
It's a beautiful spot!
Hey good blogg love icon he is my babe in blackpool😅

Can we be friends
@@Laura-lc5ng sure, I like to think I'm a friend to all those I meet.
If we went on the gravertron wth all the other utube channel and I felt bit dizzy would u all take care me
@Laura-lc5ng the gravertron? Do you mean the spinning rides you get at travelling theme parks? Cos I love those! Or is there a more specific ride you're thinking of?
Nice content! I enjoyed it with my elementary school daughter. We want to play here. Thank you very much. Have a nice weekend 🙋♂🙆♀
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Have a nice weekend too.
How did you go to tropic of Capricorn from ANTARINIO
We were at the Isalo Ranch the night before, travelled down RN7 towards Tuléar where we crossed the tropic on the way. Tristan (our guide) took a short detour off the main road so we could see the monument which was pretty cool.
Think it's a Madagascan Fish Eagle that you see in the small enclosure
I'm not so sure, beak seems too short and legs not long enough. Madagascan Fish Eagles also have quite prominent white heads. I'd say it's more likely a species of Buzzard, but couldn't say for certain.
It was an amazing trip I never imagined having very good friends after a trip It was all my pleasure
Such a good time with great company. We didn't expect to make such good friends either.
Those lemurs are gangsters. lol.

the best lunch of the travel
It was soooo delicious 😋
Great video! A treat to see some of the lesser-known corners of the Broads that rarely appear on UA-cam. Haven't seen the nature trail at Hoveton in 30 years! Nicely put together video too, deserves a lot more views and likes...
Thank you so much for your lovely comment. That really put a smile on my face. I plan on doing some more broads videos in the future, I absolutely love exploring the water ways.
There are three Geckos on that wall. Two you recorded and a third on the side 😊
I just had to zoom in on that section on my phone, and you're right, there is one around the side. How on Earth did you notice that?
@@nextstopstapleton I like to think i'm observant but it was dark for you. You may not have noticed
@@TotalWho91 I certainly didn't notice that one. The other geckos, the hissing cockroaches, the whip scorpion, that spider, but not that gecko.
the Window of Isalo is amazing
It was so beautiful 😍
Crodiles of the world, Linton zoo, shrepeworth zoo and Hamerton zoo are worth it
Linton Zoo and Shepreth were my zoos when I was at uni! I love them, especially Shepreth. I first visited Hamerton a few years ago and went bank multiple times in a year! Crocodiles of the world I've never been to however, but it certainly intrigues me. Obviously I'll make it to all of them at some point. Lincolnshire Wildlife Park I think is my next one, but Hamerton should be soon too.
Which are the best zoos worth visiting for you?
A very hard day 😂😂 for me 😅😅
It was a very hard day! You made it most of the way up though, and praise to you for arranging water for our rescue!
I wait the famous day 4 😂😂😅😅
😆 That was an interesting day to edit, with so little filmed and feeling soooo unwell.
Day 2 is amazing
Thank you 😊
Day 1😀😀
I'm going to be uploading them weekly! I've still got quite a few to edit so I've got my work cut out for me.
That was way too brief! I'm disabled so I'd never get to see this for myself so it's a pity you didn't include more 🙁 Sounds like the charity do a fabulous job though 👍
I originally planned to include a lot more, but I'm afraid I was unable to, one of the first things they say is to not record the guides or give away the content of the tour, which they own the intellectual property of now! This means that when they lose access to the building no one else will be able to do this specific tour, and it sounds like they have plans to try and still use the tour content in some way. It might be worth contacting them, the exit to the tour is all on the street level, so they might be able to accommodate you by entering that way. There's one room up some stairs you wouldn't be able to see, but the rest of the tour is all on one level apart from 1 step, which depending on your disability and any aids you have, might be navigable.
The problem with media is that they take one picture out of context, and write a story about it (unfortunately it happens everywhere, only to make political statements and create hate)... carnival itself isn't racist, discriminatory, ... everybody is welcome (and I think you could see that). And yes, we laughed at Jews, but especially at Jews who have no humor, believe the media without doing research first, and use carnival for their own benefit. The ordinary Jews I know have no problem with it, in fact they like it. Many carnival groups even support oppressed groups by, for example, incorporating it into their theme. There are 3 categories for the permanent groups: small, medium and large groups, each group has its own winner (there is also a winner for the individual groups).
I know exactly what you mean. I entered this carnival uncertain as what to expect, aware of the controversy surrounding it. And certainly saw nothing while there. Making me feel it was important to address the controversy in the context of both what I knew was being said, and what I had personally seen. It was a very eventful and fun experience, I certainly enjoyed my time there.
Top tip use 0:75 playback speed.
what's the song they have used at 3.02 .... can't find it
It's a version of "Carol of the Bells"

Brilliant! What did you think of it?
I loved this light show, it was really incredible!
It's beautiful every year. Next time we'll have to go to Christmas at Kew!
@@nextstopstapleton lovely!
I grew up going to the Illinois Railway Museum which is largest railway museum in the US, even bigger then our National Railway Museum in Green Bay. While I love the Illinois Railway Museum, everything there is kept in barns and feels so cramped. This seems otherworldly by comparison. Not gonna lie I’m extremely jealous.
Being the largest in the US is very impressive though! I'd love to see that!
@@nextstopstapleton definitely worth checking out if you’re ever in the Chicago area. However somewhat ironically you need a car to get there lol But if you look it up, there’s a lot of great videos of it here on UA-cam
@@Mr.E723 😆 that is ironic. I'll be sure to check some out, thanks.
The boat light festival was a go to. Definitely worth a visit again.
I completely agree, no idea why I've not been before. But certainly will go again.
The Broads are such a great place to go on holiday for anyone who likes boats and nature, it was so peaceful! People need to be wary about knowing how to handle a boat though as it can be tricky sometimes, but so much worth it! I'm loving this video, it shows a great snapshot of it :)
I completely agree, and I can't wait to do more holidays on the broads. On the next one I might talk about boat handling a bit as well.
That's a great idea!@@nextstopstapleton
I wanna be there SOOOOOOOOOO badly
It's a great day out, made even better by seeing Flying Scotsman. I can't wait to see what they've done with the other galleries when I next visit.

That's awesome! She's one of my favourite locos!
I looove this exhibition, this is a good vlog on it!
Thank you. It's a beautiful exhibition.
My local park is Yorkshire Wildlife Park, which i have membership for. I think you would really love it because it has 270 acres so all the animals have really large enclosures. They specialise in endangered species They have Amur Leopards and Amur Tigers, African Lions and Cheetahs. They also have the largest collection of Polar Bears 6 males and 2 females that are kept separately. They have Rolloway Monkeys, Gelada Monkeys, Golden Lion Tamerins, Silvery Marmasets and have bred a lot of them succsessfully. It is well worth a visit. They have many interesting animals.
I visited Yorkshire Wildlife Park last year, it was actually one of my first vlogs. I absolutely loved it! The Polar Bears was a big highlight, but actually for me it was the Giant Otters I was most excited to see. I do plan to do some "Revisited" vlogs where I return to zoos I've already been too, Yorkshire Wildlife Park is one I plan to do, as I think it's going to keep growing a lot over the next few years.
I enjoyed our time in this zoo and Battersea area has a lot more to offer, we can easily spend a full day over there which we did, and it was very nice!
We'll have to go back and explore more of the park.
Just visited ( August 24th)....very pleasurable
where is Beale, never heard of this zoo thanks for showing us. Like the train, and gardens.
It's just outside Reading. I'll admit I hadn't heard of it until recently, I think it's certainly a zoo that deserves to be more well known.
Just visited ( August 24th)....very pleasurable.
@hlambourne3847 I'm glad you enjoyed it, it's a good zoo.
I really enjoyed this visit with you. Sorry for the bad weather. I'd have expected a lot more people there, though. What do you think is the longest camera lens length one needs to get some nice closeups?
I'm really glad you enjoyed it. Even with the weather I still really enjoyed the visit. Camera lenses are such a difficult choice, debating the zoom you need, weight you're carrying, and if you need a tripod. I personally use a 300mm lens for my photography camera, I get some good shots with it, but I'm considering getting a 600mm lens as well. My only concern is holding it steady, at that size you start to need a tripod, which is fine in a location when you plan to stay for a while, but if you're regularly moving it more inconvenient. So I'd say if you're concerned about weight, and want to go mainly tripod free, I wouldn't go more than a 300mm, but if you're happy to use a tripod, then a 600mm will be amazing in a zoo. If you're into wildlife photography then 900mm would be amazing, but as much as I'd love one, the cost is a bit much for me atm 😆
hi, Darren. thanks for you fast reply and thoughts on the lens. I much appreciate it! I take it from your zoo expert advice that the lens can't be long enough. (I'm on mft and own the 100-400mm which translates into 800mm ff. It's not that heavy, thank god. So I will bring it and the tripod and hope for few people, too.) I am visiting for the shoebill and the pangolin. I can't wait to see them and all these amazing animals that you walked us to, as well.
@Goldberry2007 fantastic to hear. I hope you have a great trip and get some good photos. Feel free to drop me a message after your trip, I'd love to hear how you got on and see some of the photos you get. I definitely think you can never have a big enough lens, there are certainly pros and cons both ways, but it's always annoying when an animal is just that little bit too far away for a good shot. Shoebills are such incredible birds, but pangolins are just adorable, and so special. A species in such decline, here's hoping they can be saved.
Can you please record the pirate show???
I'll make sure to do so on my next visit. I loved that show as a kid, and with so much to do there we just didn't fit it in sadly. We all said that we need to go back and do all the things we missed 😆
Where can I get the Hulk Buster? Asking for a friend
I suggest buying a LOT of Lego and building it from scratch. I'm happy to lend you a hand 😆
I feel York should give us (Darlington/Shildon Railway Museum) the rocket back.
Why was it moved from there to York? Do you know?
Looks like a nice little zoo!!
It was a great zoo, with some great enclosures and unusual animals. We'll worth a visit.
