I've done a lot of bowhunting in the Eastern Sierras. I found lots of arrow heads over the years. I find it so fascinating to think I'm hunting deer the same way they used to but with modern equipment. As I sit on a bluff looking out over the valley it seems so spiritual to me.

Good video and thanks. We used to find native points on the grandparents land after the rain. The most common small "bird" points were made from a flinty type of rock. On occasion though we would find obsidian points and some raw obsidian that we don't think was particularly common there.

I live in CA and have hiked the Sierra extensively. Without exception, I find bits of obsidian along every trans-sSierran trail. And every place that is a good place to camp, was a good place to camp. Just knowing that I am walking the same pathways that others have for thousands of years adds to the richness of the outing.

The comment, "and they used obsidian for ceremonial purposes too", tells me they are presenting slanted personal views with no basis so they never elaborate on that "ceremonies" She's the type who calls a stone dildo a ritual ceremonial artifact . She paints a picture of tribes mixing constantly and creating new tribes when genetic study shows the exact opposite has occurred since their arrival. She present a "Kumbaya" false representation of the native as if he is a sub-human noble savage. She is a racist who believes in her superiority and tells lies that paint the Native as half-animal. She is the euro-centric racist of centuries past. Get her off the air.

Remarkable to understand how obsidian can tell such a detailed story of native peoples occupation of the land. Seems like native peoples being able to house the artifacts of their ancestors is the right way to do things. Thanks 🙂

One important area left out of the act is the creation of agriculture on Native American sites. If a developer wants to build on a site they must do an archaeological survey. But if someone wants to create a 100 acre vineyard, no archaeological survey necessary. Just rip up the soil and plant. How many archaeological sites were destroyed by farmers?

The owens valley is the winter home for the Numu. Even during the ice age. . The mono/Northern paiute/Bannock/shoshone peoples were very warlike and the owens valley is the Numic homeland .. . LANGUAGE map shows this. THE eastern shoshone are from the owens valley . Ethnogenisis of the eastern shoshone shows this . Most numic oral history shows they came from the owens valley

I was born and raised in Riverside. I remember some of the buildings in the Chinese area off Tequesquite (spelling), and in 1968 rode my bicycle there (we lived not far from Mt. Rubidoux) and met Mr. Wong and visited with him. My folks would take us kids to Chun King from time to time. It seemed so exotic compared to us being familiar with Mexican food.

Thank you for the video. There is an outcrop of obsidian near the south end of the Salton Sea. The volcano is considered active and will erupt again at some future date. If you are interested in learning more about this outcrop, search for "obsidian butte".

At 12:56 time, I’m loving the comment by Gerald Hunter. At the ancient sites, you are all affected by the area, the spiritual link to the past; it’s where people gathered, said prayers, passed down the traditions over a campfire. 👍 Yes indeed. Well said.

in all my hunts through all of the west ,obsidian has been there whether it was traded or a secret out cropping, the things I found were incredible and I put my own story together of how and when these peoples lived, and lets don't forget about the giants? DNA shows us where the natives came from and the approximate time. the giants are a different story, my search continues for the truth... thank you for the video, well done

After watch Doctor Ing Hay of John Day Oregon, I just had to see this California Community as well!!!. Yes, in the 1940's my own Dad was a patient of Doc Hay of John Day Oregon, and he treated my Dad's Rheumatic Fever, and made it at least go dormant, And my Dad stayed at the VA in Portland for more than a year, after a medical discard from the Army, the VA doctor's in Portland were perplexed. and could not wrap their mind (head) around the enigmatic mystery that my Dad's Rheumatic Fever was in a inactive, or rather a dormant state. What a Miracle Worker Doctor Ing Hay was for my Dad!!! Bless You Doc Hay in Heaven, you were a true ray of healing when you sojourned here amongst us!!!. I hear shouts of adoration in heaven as I declare this in my heart and soul, as a human living on the 3rd planet, called Gaia!!!

I did some claim staking east of Independence, Ca...A considerable amount of obsidian was there and also projectile points..and old encampments. We also found aboriginal mines with blue earth and stones as the objective. I'll not give any other details.. this was a rich area for evidence of early man. Found and left as is. I also lived in Winnemucca in the 50s.. plenty of obsidian there and a considerable amount of artifacts. I have never revealed the locations and hope they are still intact. I might also mention we found evidence of Spanish intrusion.
