Power through Weakness
Sermon (9 minutes) by Fr Mark Heather for the 9.30 Holy Communion on the sixth Sunday after Trinity at Steyning Parish Church, looks at two of the day's set readings, the Gospel (Mark 6:1-13) and 2 Corinthians 12:2-10, both of which offer the message that the true power of Christ comes from being perfect in, and acknowledging, one's weaknesses.

Fr Mark Heather's sermon (9 minutes) for the fourth Sunday after Trinity (23 June 2024) at the 9:30am service at Steyning Parish Church takes the theme of the day's Gospel reading, from St Mark 4, when Jesus calmed the storm as he and the disciples crossed the Sea of Galilee.
From small apple seeds, great orchards grow

Fr Mark's talk (8 minutes) to the Music Group Eucharist at Steyning Parish Church on 16 June 2024 - celebrated as Sussex Day - took its inspiration from the day's Gospel, the parable of the mustard seed. Just as a small mustard seed grows into a large plant, and seeds from one apple can produce a whole orchard, then we need to plant the seed to grow in Christ.

Canon Nigel Hartley's sermon (11 minutes) on Trinity Sunday (25 May 2024) at the 9:30am Eucharist at Steyning Parish Church. As Canon NIgel has preached the previous three Trinity sermons he fears running out of topics for a fourth. But he finds a new take on the question. A memory card error in the camera meant we lost a short part towards the end.

The Fourth Sunday of Easter (21 April 2024) at Steyning Parish Church, being the third Sunday of the month, was our informal Music Group Eucharist, followed by the Annual Parish Meetings. Consequently the talk by Fr Mark was shorter than usual (6 minutes), and focused on the day's Gospel reading from St John (10:11-18) in which Jesus tells us he is the Good Shepherd.

Sermon by Fr Peter Attwood for the Second Sunday of Easter (7 April 2024) at the 9:30 Holy Communion at Steyning Parish Church. Fr Peter looks at the Gospel of the day, about 'doubting' Thomas, who gets a bad image as a result, unfairly because only by questioning do we gain a complete understanding.
Theology simplified for Easter

Fr Mark Heather's sermon (9 minutes) on Easter Day (31 March 2024) at the 9:30am Holy Communion at Steyning Parish Church unpicks the difficult concepts of Easter as detailed in the Gospels. Thanks To Canon NIgel Hartley whose video editing brings some unaccustomed professonalism, with clips of our choir's Easter anthems, the Paschal candle and, of course, the Easter Garden.

A very helpful 'sermon'.
Your sermon this morning spoke deeply to me in more ways than you could possibly know, and with the joy of modern technology I can play it back as often as I need to. Thank you 👍🙏 Interestingly, my daily commute takes me past the road to Emmaus, it always makes me smile 😀 I must take a photo to share. 📷

"We are following the very best science" - but what allowance does that make for Love and for God?
Thank you Nigel. Not afraid to confront current affairs instead of skirting around. 👍

Struggling to hear the sound on this one?
If you use a phone you will, I'm afraid, but the sound is fine when you listen on a laptop or tablet.
Everyone watching this must follow the link from the parish website to the music video - UK Blessing. Very special, we are part of something much bigger, uniting Christians of all denominations
Thank you, Steve. And make sure you look as well as listen - there are faces you may recognise.
This is wonderful! Thank you for sharing with the world, Nigel. With gratitude from Indiana:)
How very kind of you! Thank you for your comment. It was a pleasure to do it. Greetings to Indiana from self-isolation in Sussex in our newly connected world and in these difficult times.
