Nice day. Lots of action. Trout will always come to the surface and make a racket.
Skyblasters will take care of them in no time
Hey buddy I been watching all your videos on the Guadalupe delta wma I saw you hunted 720 but was gonna ask if you ever hunted or heard anything on spot Haynes bay unit 724 that’s where I’m going to try this next upcoming season!
@robsentertainment9774 it's hit and miss out there. The spots at the bottom are the best from what I've heard.
@@nhk_outdoorsbottom ?
@@nhk_outdoors oh ok thank you and what do you mean about bottom?
What choke are you using?
@zairew_ I go back and forth with a kicks high flyer full and modified choke.
@@nhk_outdoors Nice, Im near the houston area and I'm gonna do my first hunt at either Jhurst or mad bay. any tips/recommendations?
@zairew_ At Hurst the mottled duck and 1200 arces area been doing good. Little ridge been ok and big ridge hasn't been that good this year. Also, some of the walks might be a little muddy. I use a small sled to carry a dozen decoys, blind bag and stool. It makes things easier.
What draw spot was this ?
@jasonrogers8344 this was spot #7 at Guadalupe Delta WMA.
@ okay thank you
The ol blue bird sky blast 😅 great video fellas 👊 liked and subbed! If i could leave a tip always carry a Extra full choke just in case 😂
Lol, thanks. Sometimes I think I should bring my turkey choke!😂
That's how it goes!
Let’s goooo!! Can’t wait to get back out there!
@@ABetterOutdoors absolutely! We'll get on them again!
Remind me never to hang around you during the draw…
Shot a woodie in the coastal marsh of Brazoria NWR last week, I thought that was pretty weird.
Maybe some mallards will start showing up next, lol....
@justinmitchell82 Yeah, i hear about a few wood ducks, and mallards get shot in the marsh every year. I saw someone shot a drake wood duck at Hurst last week, this could have been a hen that was with him.
Dang creek...
@DustinVia haha, yeah only like 4 spots left when it was my turn to pick.
Running into gators and snakes is why I like to try and wait until it gets cooler before hunting.. Enjoyed the video.
@texasvictorygarden7024 i hear ya. That's why I avoid some of the places that have big gators.
Hey man what was the name of that spot u picked ?
@@jasonrogers8344 1200 #8
Good hunt!! Dude that snake is what keeps me from solo hunting! I’d run right into one!!
@ABetterOutdoors thanks, yeah gotta watch out in front of you and take it slow. They hide very well!

Someone in my clan recommended this channel. Deer season opens Saturday; got an 8 pointer on the trail camera. Got the Benelli Superblackeagle2 in the safe. Where you smacking those ducks NHK?Need a hunting buddy? aamosjr
@ejcmech4778 Yup, good ol clash of clans lol. I mainly hunt along the coast southwest of Houston.
Donteatmydonuts from clash of clans is here 😂
You see any gators out there?
@jamesmckee8022 no, not at the Sargent Unit.
Do they have blinds set up? And do you bring decoys typically when you hunt there
No blinds. They have a reflective marker in the marsh of where your spot is at. They ask you to set up within 30 yards of the marker. Yes, bring decoys. I bring a dozen.
You should come hunt with me…. No/ minimal walking in the marsh…
How deep was the water in most of the location? Any spots over knee deep? Any recommendation on which number the birds seemed to want to be in?
@@marshzajicek4144 not very deep, knee high would be the highest. They have drains that regulate the depth of the compartments.
Did you ever try to call on a Thursday and hunt another day other than you were assigned? I put in to get a spot this year. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
@marshzajicek4144 If you're drawn, you can only hunt the Saturday and Wednesday. The years I didn't get drawn ive called a few times on Thursday to see if they have any available compartments, but they didn't. I've noticed the ducks would come from east side. They roost on the main San Bernard NWR area.
Appreciate it! Did you put in for the lottery this year? This is my first time, I normally hunt MAD but figured it was literally right down the road from me so I would give it a shot.
@marshzajicek4144 I sure did. Did you get a confirmation email from Roland Davis. Usually, he'll reply back that he got the application, but he didn't this year, and I emailed him twice. Guess we'll find out October 9th.
Did you go teal hunting this year?
@agduke3354 nah, I had been pretty busy. Also, it was too hot for me to be hiking around in the marsh!😅
Where was this at
@@back2backfishin615 Guadalupe Delta WMA Mission Lake Unit.
Awesome vid man! How do the lotteries work at Mad Island? I'm relatively new to this whole coastal duck hunting thing and am not quite sure how they pick lotteries/when they pick them.
@chzxriot1481 thanks...So between 4am to 4:30am the biologist will open the gate and hand a numbered tag to each vehicle that is hunting. Everyone then drives to the check station. Sometime after 4:30am the biologist will put another set of tags in a bucket. He then draws the tags out of the bucket with the first numbered tag being the first pick and so on in order. Some people do get there the night before and sleep, but it makes no difference in the lottery. I usually get there around 3:30-3:45am.
@@nhk_outdoors thanks man!
@@nhk_outdoors how crowded is mad island on the daily basis for duck hunting?
Thank you for sharing! Great videos and I enjoy the channel. Are you calling these ducks at all or are the decoys sufficient?
@samarnold1236 thanks...most of the time I don't call, decoys work good enough. If I do call, it I'll use a gadwall call or bluewing teal call.
@@nhk_outdoors Thanks for the tip and best of luck out there!
can kayaks be used on the Sargent unit?
@davidfoster1209 it's possible. There's a canal that runs along the north side and wraps around to the east side. Looks deep enough for a kayak. The walks to the compartments are on levees, so it's easy but long.
I’m buying you a net for Christmas… 😂
@LongviewGarage lol. I had one with me, but the clip had broke off.
@@nhk_outdoors sucks
Nice one!!
Enjoyed the vid. Keep fishin! New sub from my channel to yours
@LLDWITHJ thanks, subbing to you now!
Hunting season down the street 🙏🏽
Yup, I might have to try teal hunting if fishing isn't any good next month.
Nice
@@horaciomaldonado7205 thanks!
Awesome. You did pretty good. I haven't caught a red in a while. Just went to Surfside yesterday. Almost no wind, calm surf and water looked real nice. Caught a few big whiting, 20" ladyfish and some keeper blacktips. No trout though.
@daniel42020 thanks, I'm always missing out when the surf is good.
The video starts playing after a few seconds. Must have been an editing error.
Awesome, I’ll be in Freeport in a couple days. Good video.
@owenburke5798 Thanks, I was hoping for better results, but oh well, I still enjoyed it.
Will Probably Go Hunt that Area since its the closest Public Land near me
I Wanna Try to Go Duck Hunting This Year never been before any Tips
@VictorSanchez-uk4tk for public land hunting, I suggest getting a sled to carry your decoys, stool, and dry bag. I only use a dozen decoys. Some places like Guadalupe Delta are first come, first serve, so to get a good spot, some people get there early and sleep in their trucks. Also, be prepared to walk in muddy conditions that can make it tough. Some walks are simple others are harder.
@@nhk_outdoors thank you man Appreciate it Hopefully I’ll be able to make it out there this year!
@@nhk_outdoors I really Appreciate your Videos Helped me Out a lot to get an Idea of Everything and how Public Land works!!
@VictorSanchez-uk4tk no problem. Let me know when you go and I can give u some more advice.
My boys jammin’ on the outro! I gotta get back out there with my yak!
Haha, heck yeah. Something a little different for the people that watch till the end.
Y’all try top water too?
@sambeauxfulkerson7892 not really. The last time I tried, I didn't get any bites. I don't hear a lot of people catching trout on top waters in the surf. I know it happens, tho, but I just stick with my swim baits.
@@nhk_outdoors it’s weird bc in Louisiana i smash em on top water, but i never hear of people catching them on top water in Texas. I’m thinking about making a trip down to matagorda soon to try it out
Where is the closest boat ramp to this area ?
Matagorda Harbor would be the closest ramp for boats.
@@nhk_outdoors Thanks for the reply I’ll going to matagorda Saturday I want to fish east bay any advice as far as shallow areas I have a surface drive so should be ok
@Karen-pu1kz ive only done good in the three mile area. Water has been really high so I'm sure you won't have problems getting to places. The little cuts and holes I fish don't produce as good as when the water is high. Saturday should be a good day with the wind calming down.
where do you launch from if you don't mind me asking?
At Three Mile cut. I launch from two different spots. If I fish the three mile lake, I drive straight up from the beach as far as I can go. That launch on this video is where I fish the small cut that goes from the bay to three mile. Same as the first launch, but before I get to the water I take a right for about 50 yards. Then go back north along the swallow flat.
@@nhk_outdoors thanks for the insight! I just got a kayak hoping to try out matagorda! Or oyster lake. Seems very fishy there
@yoink_fishing no problem. You can message my instagram account (nhk_outdoors) so that i can give u better info if u have an account. I can send you maps and different locations of a few spots I go to.
Gotta check the regulations every year. I got a ticket last year for not checking in with the wildlife biologist and just putting the slip in the dropbox!
It was an honest mistake and the guy was a real d*ck about it. $350 ticket which I tried to fight because I actually did check in just not with a game warden or wildlife biologist. The judge DA and game warden all knew each other, and I was found guilty…
I was hunting compartment 7&8 on Tuesday and didn’t see a thing Switched to comp 5 on Thursday and saw a bunch of hens No luck for me either Had a fun time though
Yeah, I heard which areas are better than others. So next time I get to hunt there, I'll know what compartments to pick.
Turkey hunting kicked my butt last year, wish I could of gone this year! I’m definitely checking out that place next year
Yup, even tho I didn't shoot anything, I'm hooked. It just sucks not many public land places around southeast Texas.
Which unit?
#2
How the heck y'all do so good with having no cover? I hunt mostly over in Anahuac and when there's not good cover the birds flare like crazy.
Man, that was a heck of a hunt. We had a lot of birds flying around. They wanted to be there no matter what. Since we didn't have much cover, we set the decoys out further than usual and put in a full choke.
I hear ya! Well, congrats on a nice hunt!
What choke are you using ? Full or mod or Implied ?
Kicks High Flyer Modified on my SBE3
You could still go goose hunting. Have you ever done that?
Yeah, that would be nice, but there's not much public land that's holding geese from what I know.
good job guys, nicely done with the Scaup
I’ll be posting my video soon! Missed a lot the kill shots. Didn’t even get the scalp I killed on camera.
Heck yeah! I’ll check out your channel.
