ROSENWALD SCHOOLS [PART 2 OF 2] (2013)
This segment from the September 27, 2013, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Shauna Sanford's interviews with Robin Banks, the great-granddaughter of Booker T. Washington, and William Hess, the great-grandson of Julius Rosenwald, on the partnership between their great-grandfathers that led to the building of over 5,300 Rosenwald schools. Washington, a prominent African American author and educator, and Rosenwald, the CEO of Sears & Roebuck, built the schools to help educate African Americans during segregation in the early 20th century. Banks and Hess met for the first time at the opening of a restored Rosenwald School at the River Road African American Museum in Donaldsonville. Hosts: Shauna Sanford and Charlie Whinham

Chopped Sugar Cane with the cane knife.
Mom was in the Ray movie. Stone Production.
I lived the lifestyle in Thibodaux, LA.
Still live in the territory. Got a lot of knowledge to share. Stone production for movies. Holla. Know everywhere to film.
A beautiful piece! ❤
The rain and hail were loud on the school's tin roof, I bet
Wonderful - thank you for sharing the truth - and storys of the plantaions
This is why most migrated north like what my family did. If you live on plantation your always a slave. The fact that they were robbing them shows what type of people they were. GREAT video
Banjo solo was wild
enregistrement Gennet (?) automne 1923

Excellent. Thank you.
Faustina Randall was my grandfather his house is still on that land my Daddy grew up there too to be continued
This is my grandmother and these stories were frequent with her to all of us. She was "that" lady to be humble and real! I love her and miss her dearly!
My family is the James family. From Torbert, Louisiana. They chopped that Cane!!!
My family comes from this area... Ascension, Assumption, St. James, Lafourche and Orleans Parishes.
Putting aside the evils of slavery for a moment, I recall reading once that someone had famously said, " You have to be a Mighty Rich Cotton Farmer, before You could be a Poor Sugar Farmer..."!!
Henrietta Hill Jones is my 3x great grandmother
Who are the players ?
Thank you.
😀👍
Master Drummer. Master Teacher. My Great Grandma is from Donalsonville. The French Family.
Excellent oral history. Thank you for trying to be as accurate as possible.
“ In the bonds of the old south” 🥂
It is very important to include the stories of the enslaved and people who sharecropped or never paid their worth in every plantation tour. Yes, they were beautiful homes with grandeur and splendor but they came at a great cost and sacrifice of others. That history shouldn't be forgotten.
This brother was one of the unsung heroes of Jazz/Funk/Techno-funk. Glad to see he's finally getting his due. Long live "Summers Heat!😎
🙏🏽

Bringing their own food to work in those hot sharp cane fields! Wow! My mom feeds everyone she hires to work around her property.
