Haggerty Dog Training is the Gold Standard in Dog Training.
Our founder, Captain Haggerty, put dog training on the map. His passing in 2006 was a loss felt through the international dog world. His obituary hit the AP wire, The New York Times, The LA Times, and in newspapers as far away as Korea. “He did for dog training what the Beatles did for rock and roll,” “Dogs lost a champion,” were some of the quips about his life. While alive, it was said that “ He made dog training the respected profession that it is today” He was often called the “The man who trained the trainers” as his School for Dog Trainers produced some of the most acclaimed trainers fo all time.
Babette Haggerty, the owner of Haggerty Dog Training, is the only child of Captain Haggerty. Babette understands the significance of continuing the dog training legacy that her dad so freely passed onto her. Countless times over the decades, Babette has heard, “Your dad trained my dog, and he was the best dog ever”! Babette has synthesized his values and mission along with hers; “Train Everyday People to Have Once in a Lifetime Dogs”. Babette has appeared on multiple tv channels including The Today Show, ABC, Fox, been interviewed for newspapers throughout the country. Her experiences on the set of All My Children, One Life to Live, numerous commercials such as when she trained and supplied Jack Nicklaus’ Golden Retriever for an AT&T commercial are just some of the ways she has followed in her dad’s footsteps. As a single mom, who has a successful career and has her own dogs;
she understands the trials and tribulations of managing life and a new dog.
Babette’s mission is to Train Everyday People to Have Once in a Lifetime Dogs and that shines through in every dog that walks through our doors and leaves as a well behaved dog.

    Help! My 11 week old puppy has made zero improvements. She will hold it outside for over 45 min because she wants to go inside, once inside she pees immediately. So we started putting her straight in the crate for 10 min and then trying again. Now, she’ll hold it as long as possible and has started to pee as soon as we put her in the crate. I think she just wants to play so she doesn’t care where she goes. If she goes potty in the crate after being outside for an hour, Do I let her out to play? Make her sit? She also eats and sleeps comfortably in her crate

    • @HaggertyDogTraining
      @HaggertyDogTraining 14 днів тому

      A few things: She is young so have no fear! When you take her outside, give her five minutes to go; if she doesn't bring her inside and attach her to you by taking her leash and tying it to your belt loop. If she does go, let her run around for 15 minutes then attach her to you again. Start using a basic housetraining process instead of the instructions for the dirty dog. I also want you to feed her all of her meals inside of the crate. If you need more help, please schedule a quick session with me at calendly.com/babettehaggerty

    We got a 9 month old pitty off the streets of N. Phoenix. He was crate trained and new basic commands so we're not sure what type of situation he came from. We're assuming a homeless person. He is 100% a dirty dog. We've had him nearly a year and he will go outside after being in his crate at night. He will pee and take a large poop. We sometimes have to tell him to finish because he will not completely eliminate and then come inside and do his business where ever he sees fit. Last week we let him outside, he did his business and as I'm getting ready for work, he sits right next to my boyfriend who is sitting at the counter, and just poops right next to him. He does not know how to communicate that he needs to go outside. He will stand up from a nap and just pee right on the floor without giving us the chance to take him out. Also last week, he got on the couch, laid his had on my boyfriend and just emptied his bladder without trying to get up. We have taken him to the vet, and the only thing he has going on is a slight case of Valley Fever that's barely there. The vet thinks there is a possibility of neurological issues from the valley fever and if that's the case then he's not going to improve. We're at a loss because he loves humans, he's a super sweet dog, but we are at the tipping point. I've had so many dogs in my life, and I've never experienced this before. He also has 2 other adult well behaved dogs to learn from and still no sign of improvement and yes we have worked with trainers. He will die in a shelter, but he will be passed around from home to home when they see he has incontinent issues.

    My 9 month old Frenchie goes pees and poops in her crate. But it is solely my own fault. Her first night home she slept in the crate right beside me and never made a peep (I was up all night waiting lol) I thought I had a perfect puppy until I realized she peed in what I’m guessing was her sleep. After a little while I had to go back to work and could only stop on my lunch breaks so she would have to go more than I could stop. 😢 so instead of making her lay in it I got her a bigger crate so she could atleast go without laying in it since that was going to be inevitable that she would go. Now…here we are dealing with the consequences of my actions. I got her a new crate when I knew her bladder should be able to hold it longer and now she fits nicely in it-she can turn around a lay down . She is fine for the 8 hour me in her kennel while I’m at work (about 95% of the time she doesn’t have an accident). But at night for some reason she doesn’t get up and tell me she needs to go (or on the rare occasion she does she fusses and in the 30 seconds it takes me to get her she has already gone). But sometimes I wake up to a mess already done. I’m losing my mind

    • @HaggertyDogTraining
      @HaggertyDogTraining Місяць тому

      She doesn't let you know because in her mind she doesn't have to, she learned that it is ok to go in the crate.

    My dog have this. We thought we got lazy with our training with her and tried even more, went out all the time, treats, you name it, but nothing worked. Nothing is ever enough. Who have the time to go out every 45 min? What causes this behaviour? It must be something more than what you said! First we thought this dog is really like a cat in behaviour. But she also would run to every people and dogs everywhere, like zero ability for safety thinking. Our whole home is like a toilet for her. She also diggs out dirty laundry and sleeps with it like she only familiar with that, she have this habit also of stealing away our babys nappie with poop in it and eat it while we change on the baby and it's impossible to stop her. It's like she is on a mission. It's getting to the point now we have realised from these comments, that this training, it wont help.

    • @HaggertyDogTraining
      @HaggertyDogTraining Місяць тому

      Sorry that you are so frustrated. Like I say in the video, it is not easy to deal with but it is the best way to resolved the issue. Using the house as a toilet is not DIrty Dog Syndrome. That is an unhousebroken dog. What causes it is that every time she goes to the bathroom in your house, she is rewarded. It is self-rewarding behavior. Don't you feel better after having gone to the bathroom? Her stealing your baby's nappie is a different issue which requires a different solution.

    This is really unrealistic. You can’t wait 45m with your dog outside every 15m in the cage. That’s just letting your dog stay outside. Might as well just lock them out there. Trainers we paid for have said anything over 15m outside with no potty means CRATE immediately, they are abusing the outdoor potty time for play and then will use their cage.

    • @HaggertyDogTraining
      @HaggertyDogTraining 7 місяців тому

      Time consuming? Yes, Unrealistic? No. Effective? Absolutely! You are missing the difference between traditional housetraining and training a dirty dog. And 15 minutes is too long outside with a dog that does not suffer from Dirty Dog Syndrome. A dog with DDS is trained differently than a dog without it. That is what this video addresses.

    I loved your dad, he trained 2 of my Newfoundland dogs and did a great job with them. He was like the General Patton of dog training, Starbuck used to hide in the corner when he came. He said that, “She’ll never like me, but she’ll always respect me.” The last time I saw him was in 2003. He had a woman with him who was training under him as I remember. He had this tough guy look and manner, but I found him to be very kind and thoughtful. He sent my daughter a birthday card! How many dog trainers do that? I’m honored to have worked with him.

    I have the same problem with one of my 3 dogs. He is very old and suspected of having dementia. I take him regularly outside, but he forgets to poop. I have absolutely not 45 minutes to spend with only one dog outside, and even that I have a backyard I can’t let him there by himself for that long, due to hot temperatures here in Arizona. Forgot to mention that none of my dogs are getting along, so I have to deal with each one separately, so is no way I can take them all together. I’m tired and frustrated cleaning every time in his kennel. I put an outdoor dog kennel in the bedroom, almost half of the spare bedroom, and i restrained him there when I’m not home because he pee everywhere. I even bought him those pads that goes around his belly, but he manages to get out of them. I am at my limits. I am throwing blankets and beds away weekly. And even that I have 3 jobs, I can’t afford to buy all the time things just for him to pee on. I do get blankets from goodwill, I make beds for my dogs and for my cats, but still, it gets expensive. What else can I do to help him and myself?

    I didn't buy my Malinois, I rescued her from the animal shelter. She had been tossed out and was living on the side of the road; she had zero socail skills and wasn't house-broken. Since December 20, 2021, it's been a crash course for me and her. She has great social skills and is friendly toward everyone she meets; but she is a freakin ball of energy and gets into her one-track-mind when she wants to go to her dog run. Yeah, she's eaten my couch and chair and dug up the tile at the front door, but we're working on her anxiety (it doesn't help when idiots light fireworks). She hardly ever barks at other dogs, loves children, can't figure out what cats are, and enjoys long drives. She even takes it upon herself to guard me while I sleep. So, I can't give her up because she's joined at my hip and she wouldn't behave for anyone else. I'm her human.

      I am so glad to hear that you have kept her and truly saved her. Thank you for that. I am sure that she is awesome. They truly are, they just are not the right dog for most people.

    It is true that a Belgian MalinNois can be a challenge. They are a high energy, intelligent and fun breed to own. All dog owners should train their dogs. I‘ve trained my girl from day 1. She is a pleasure…sweet-natured and well-behaved. Your rant is reminiscent of people trashing pit bulls, instead of crappy owners. What kind of trainer are you?
