EDDIE BRINKMAN Interviewed by Leo Cloutier in 1972
Wow! Thank you for uploading these great MLB interviews. Catfish Hunter was my baseball idol growing up in Oakland in the 1970s. This may be the only radio interview with him during his years in Oakland that is still extant. Also listened to Leo's interviews with Dick Williams, Chuck Tanner, Frank Howard and looking forward to hearing them all. The late 1960s and early 1070s was a great period for MLB. Unfortunately it all came crashing down at the end of the 1976 season with the advent of free agency.
Its a shame this great goaltender and even greater man has not been inducted into the hockey hall of fame!
❤️
😊 2,100 chicken pot pies! 😊
❤ Eating a chicken pot pie while watching this!
Simply amazing listening. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ easily 5 stars
Awesome, love Ty Cobb. Thanks for sharing.
2 and zero in world series what else can you say
Pete was part chiowok indian
1960...talks of Maris...
Is this an early psyop?
RIP, Mr. Ty Cobb - The Georgia Peach - Plz send our regards Charlie Hustle! ;-]
Came back to manage the Pirates in late 1973, and stayed thru 1976, passing away that December.
The great Edd Roush...1919 World Series!.
Too bad the Oakland A's were in the division in 1972
Tom Grieve's 1977 Topps card was one of my favorites as a kid. His stats that year showed so much hope for a 30+ home run 1977 year. Unfortunately, an injury sidelined Tom.
Thank you for these precious interviews. Getting to know the players behind the baseball cards adds so much more interest.
Why is Danny not in the HOF. Much better than Leyland.
1972 not 1872. Nice typo 👍
Love these interviews, thank you so much for posting them! Leo was a great guy, as were a lot of the players.
My Father, Leo, was a great guy, indeed! Thank you.
I saw Sandy Koufax pitch a no-hitter at Connie Mack Stadium! I was only about 10 and didn't appreciate the significance of the no-hitter!
What was the date of this interview?
I dont know, but it was recorded during Baseball Season in 1971
@@leocloutier1912 Thank you. I appreciate your response.
fall river baby
Love the accent, Fenway “Pahhhk”
HAHAHAHA
Whenever "My Sharona" comes on the radio, I replace My Sharona with Ron Swoboda. And sometimes also Abe Vigoda
HAHAHAHA
Have to love a guy who wore glasses. I had so many Cookie baseball cards it wasn't funny!
Author of my all time favorite baseball book as a child (and I still love it today) Strange But True Baseball Stories!
Thank you so so much for all of your postings, it’s outstanding material for the baseball fan. Leo’s memories of the Babe here are tremendous!
Maybe the most respected player/manager in baseball. Great character and great player. I noticed it mentions above he was "born Hodge." That was an (clerical) error of some sort. The 1910 census shows his dad as Charles P Hodges, so Gilbert (Gil) could not have been born Hodge. :) That said, a book on his life mentioned that Gil, and others in his family, were incorrectly called Hodge early in life. Regardless, he is now probably the one MLB player that I admire most due to things mentioned above. Sad he died so young. Cannot believe it took so long for him to make the MLB HOF based on his career and managing the "Miracle Mets."
TY IS THE BEST !!
The Boston Gob!
Sharkey insisted he was beaten by a low blow from Dempsey but in truth he just didn't like it to the body. When Dempsey started landing body shots Sharkey foolishly started turning his head to complain to the referee before getting quickly knocked cold by a left hook to the chin. I remember reading where Sharkey's son said that his father admired Jack Dempsey more that any other boxer. Sharkey gave Dempsey hell but was a front runner who got flustered when faced serious resistance.
Everyone has forgotten about this guy, but he was the boss before the boss.
Wow! What a gem this interview is! Thank you so much for posting
Amazingly the interviewers son offered me a discount on a Jack Dempsey poster board I wanted restored, having heard this he offered me a chunk off and told me who’s son he was. Amazing bit of history.
I never offer discounts
@@leocloutier1912 crazy that you replied to me too, great to meet you sir and a fine interview done here!
Useless Trivia Department: I believe Joe Pepitone for Curt Blefary was the only trade in MLB history in which one Brooklyn-born ballplayer was traded for another. If someone knows of any other, please let me know!
Thanks for sharing. I never heard of Mr. Cloutier. Great interviewer
in his later life dempsey looked like leonid brezhnev
❤nolan ryan
neat piece of boxing history
sharkey lived another 20 years after this too i think, close to it
Ty Cobb was very close friends with my great grandparents. In 1902 he gave them a car as a wedding gift.
Great Story! I have to say that Ted Williams gave Leo Cloutier a Cadillac as a birthday gift!
Thank you for posting this. Dwight is one of the underrated greats. Funny I just saw this because Dwight was on the radio during the game’s broadcast today. It was nice to hear him.
Always a hero. Played harder than anybody on the field. And he bet on himself! Hey hall of fame, you will never see my entry fee
go 'stros
A class act
20 years old and can carry on a conversation, today's 20 year Olds can't put a sentence together
I agree, but even 60-year-olds dont speak as well as they did back then. That's one of the reasons I put these interviews on youtube, to remind people how great they were back then! We need role models
The Manassa mauler he was a killer , a neanderthal, vicious beyond belief, outside of the ring a gentleman, I had the privelage to visit his grave at Southampton cemetary Long Island, my wife took me for a massive surprise 60 th birthday because she knew I idolised the man.
I was a young kid during those lean Yankees years of the late 60s and early 70s but I was a fan of Horace Clarke and respected his dedication to the game . He wasn't the best player but he played hard every game
My Grandfather 😍😇
