    Ive used both and found stock vehicles work great on ported and camed up engines work great on manifold but really depend on each engine, they are all different.

  • @1Coolbanana
    @1Coolbanana День тому

    I think a very important issue is every engine is different. Ive tunes lots of motors and the closer to stock, I found ported works well but on my cammed engine, it loves idling at 36 degrees at idle with manifold vacuum and runs much better on manifold vac. Really depends on the engine build. Just my take. Love your work reverend 🙂

    I don’t agree … if you have an older engine, modified, maybe with a/t you can modify carb, idle mixture, etc … but my experience has been adjust base timing to say 10* btdc with vacuum advance disconnected check your total advance at say 2500rpm to see what it reads… whenever you go wide open your vacuum should be 0 or if you have exhaust restrictions close to 0, setting total timing is how you can get max horsepower, too much timing will cause detonation. Not enough low power. You also can recurve distributor to allow mechanical advance to be all in by 2500 rpm, with springs, weights,slots, stops, etc.. with hi compression, big cams, etc , you will need to modify stuff to achieve stable idle. Example if you’re running 320 duration advertised duration can 11 to one compression aftermarket exhaust, intake and carb, may have less than 10 inches of vacuum at idle but pull 20 inches at cruise. With ported source timing is stable to be able to make mixture adjustments and be repeatable every time you come to idle. If you’ve gotten your base timing set and total good now you can play with vacuum advance mods. Switch to manifold vacuum source and idle speed won’t be consistent , you may experience very high idle coming to stop ( most likely) as your timing will increase rpm at idle and if you attempt to lower idle speed it most likely will be fluctuate and not be pleasant experience… also it is important to check your total timing with vacuum advance connected for total timing. At cruise speed you don’t want to go into detonation. Some advance cans pull to much additional timing and create detonation. It’s important to understand that more timei

    In the early 60's before emissions ford used ported vacuum, also my 54 ford 239 y block was ported vacuum. On my 3x2 390s you can't get the idle low enough if you use manifold vacuum so I disagree.

    One other thing that you may have missed is the absolutely perfect length of the deck. Like you will not be able to fit a full size pickup on one of these, but you will be able to fit a short wheelbase midsize pickup. Which a midsize short wheelbase pickup is just under the weight limit, but a full size is over.

    I traveled 150 miles in my chevy aveo to buy a jeep grand cherokee. I took my cherokee to the local uhaul and the guy set me up with that exact trailer. I got the insurance. I loaded up my aveo on the trailer and headed back home. Half way through the return trip, I started hearing noises from the trailer. Ten miles later and BOOM. My rear axle grenaded and sent hot chunks of axle into the gas tank and the vehicle caught fire. Brand new cherokee, and my existing car went up in flames on the side of the road. Apparently the trailer was not allowed by uhaul for that combo. Uhaul insurance paid for the total loss of both vehicles. Trailer was undamaged. I still have the pictures.

    It's called vacuum advance for a reason if manifold always has vacuum then it's always advanced and would have no reason to exist. On a stock engine it's always ported vacuum like it comes from the factory for a reason because the engineers that designed it know a lot more about it than you do.

    • @thejunkyardnecromancer
      @thejunkyardnecromancer 27 днів тому

      I don't doubt the engineers know more than me, but they had to work within certain things that prevented them from pushing engines to their max. They had to sacrifice things to make cars drivable in any condition, driven by anybody regardless of experience, and they had to protect the engine. Manifold does not always have vacuum. When the throttle is opened, vacuum falls off. Ported vacuum and manifold vacuum are exactly the same when the throttle is opened. The whole debate is whether you should have advance at idle or not.
