Just one question for the fun of it can I buy one and use it for long radio for me and my buddy?
yes
Good video. I have been doing DMR and just started with dstar so I'll follow your instructions. I only have the icom 7100 so far for dstar. Everything else is dmr or analog 👍
Great stuff. Might have to check this software stack out. How does it compare to XLX? Does it do DMR/YSF transcoding internally?
No transcoding, slight chance of it coming in the future.
How do you connect to 6 digit talk groups?
The only problem I have is my Allmon3 dashboard connects to normal nodes, but not to my private node 1999. I t says node 1999 connection failed. Any one have ideas why this is happening?
How or where do I configure the P25 TG and YSF reflector that I want it connected to?
What shari node is simplest to set up and use? I have my PI 5 and have set up the allstar node. Thank you for doing this video - very clear and easy to follow. - KF5ZZA.
hi and thanks for your video ,why i have this error message.I m running debian via wsl on windows 10 . System has not been booted with systemd as init system (PID 1). Can't operate. Failed to connect to bus: Host is down
I had the same issue with the dashboard not showing. But after adding the port 3000 tcp to the firewall it worked but i also had to restart the dvs services as i lost connection with brandmeister. It works great.
Awesome!!
This is good stuff. Node switcher is up and running. But interesting now the DVSwitch dashboard no longer shows gateway activity. Any thoughts on this?
Not sure
What app did you use on your phone to test it?
Droidstar
@@hamradionetworking Thanks!
it's built with a Raspberry Pi 4,
some Chinese made antenna what you expect,
Good Choice, these are Good for Ham base Station,
I added port 3000 to the ASL Firewall....still cannot get to the dashboard. Does the config.yml file bind to 127.0.0.1 or to the actual local IP of the PI?
Bind it to 0.0.0.0 and make sure it's running correctly
@@hamradionetworking thanks, worked perfectly....
i got a mmdvm hotspot off of aliexpress, first my dm-1701 opengd77 wouldnt connect kept timing out, so i contacted the company and they told me to mess with the offset on the hotspot in expert mode, which i did and it worked from 0 to -333 rx and tx, but after awhile my radio isnt connecting to the hotspot, what should i do?
When I first installed DVSwitch Mode Changer, I could not get the dashboard to come up. Status showed that the service was running, but still no dashboard. I finally remembered the firewall settings in the allstar 3 dashboard. After adding port 3000, the dashboard works fine.
thanks for the tip I was struggling with this myself, but all running now
Where can I change the firewall rules?
@@hamradionetworking I used the raspberry pi install, which comes with a portal. The portal has access to a terminal, firewall settings, as well as a place to run updates. I believe it's only available in the raspberry pi version. Also in the pi version, allmon3 is already installed and automatically configured.
Ok, thanks
This guy is so freaking smart it’s unreal. 👍
Thanks!!
Are you following "HamRadioCrusader' on YT? He is doing a series on ASL3 also. Between the two of you I will figure this out and get rid of HV. Thanks! KT0TT
Gotta love the Motorola.
Thank you. Gotta love that good old clear fidelity FM - sounds great. I have not yet switched 503770 from HV yet but it will happen soon. Remember- last chance in the area hamfest Sunday 10/06 Columbus Jct. KT0TT

Will this install as you have demonstrated on a Pi4 ?
Yes, you need preferably debian 12 bookworm but debian 11 buster should work too. The installation is the same
@@hamradionetworking Thanks. I've tried the exact install using a Pi4 with 64-bit Bookworm, 32-bit Bookworm, 64-bit Bullseye, and 32-bit bullseye only to get the exact same result. The process needs to include installation of the Microsoft dotnet library in order to compile the code correctly.
@@DanFeeney-g5c Interesting, it should install dotnet and compile. Send me a email of images of the errors collin@k0nnk.com
@@hamradionetworking I'll address the issue next week when I get time again. I tried to manually install dotnet libraries and it was not found, as I mentioned previously.
@@DanFeeney-g5c If your using the asl3 image it will not work, please use straight debian12 bookworm. ASL3 image does not work with dotnet 8.
I continued to protest digital modes. It is great for tinkers and wasting money. Digital fragments the hobby. The audio is substandard and grating to listen to. Many repeaters set idle with little use so bandwidth argument is void. I'm sticking with my good old FM, saving money, and let the tinkers have at it. To each his own. And don't forget the SEIA hamfest in Columbus Jct, IA on Oct 6th. KT0TT
I don't know why you feel like protesting your opinion on digital modes will make you feel better about yourself? I don't care what you think and you shouldn't be crying to people how FM is better, quit being what we call 'sad hams' who only complain.
@@hamradionetworking Some day you will grow up. Nothing 'sad' about it - if you want to waste time and money on digital, have at it. I'm looking at it from a practical point of view. Digital is not necessary or needed. In an emergency situation analog wins. Hip Hip Ho-ray and 3 cheers for Allstar where everyone is.
@@akiddoo8113 Actually digital is way more popular then allstar, anyways. Digital has it's place, analog has it's place, and allstar has it's place. They all serve a purpose and all are unique and cool, your obviously not cool enough to get into the public safety side of ham radio which is digital. I love all parts of ham radio including allstar, you can't stand other people's opinions and have to voice your own like you're the only right ham on this planet. Everyone has their own likes and dislikes and that's ok, not everyone needs to have your opinion and your only! P.S. Allstar doesn't work in emergencies! Just like analog works in emergencies so does digital (locally)!
@@akiddoo8113 Yeah since allstar will work so well in an emergency. Grow up and don't watch the video if you don't like digital. No one cares about your opinions.
English England says thanking you most kindly
Other than the config files shown on the video, are there any other places that need to be config for YSF? Any other ports need to be open besides the port for YSF itself? When I run the status, it shows that the reflector is running, no errors reported, but I am not getting through to the.YSF registration server.
Thanks, this issue has been resolved in the code, please delete your reflector and reinstall it. rm -r MMDVM_Reflector within the /opt directory and reinstall it
@@hamradionetworking Thanks, worked perfectly.
Thanks for mentioning M17!
Awesome
Ever wanted a REAL MMDVM Reflector? This works on all the modes and is easier then ever to install! ua-cam.com/video/vaNkwi3FsaU/v-deo.html
I'm really struggling to get this one working. I've setup DVSwitch as per instruction. Still can't get it to work. The log file says that everything is connected etc. One question: How do you define what DMR TG it's bound to?
Is usrp connected, is your private node connected?
@@hamradionetworking Thanks for getting back to me. I think I've sorted it. It was a port issue. Doing some more testing. Thanks. M
Your video is tough to follow because the screens move by so fast, and the fonts are very small. I think that DVSwitch might be the solution that I need. I have a Linode Debian 11 XLX DMR and YSF Reflector that I would like to permanently link to a Linode Debian 12 AllStarLink hub. Is it possible for you to document your steps in a text file and attach it to the UA-cam video? That would make it easier to follow the steps in the video.
I tried to get ASL3 on a old HP pc with Debian 12.6 server, but no ASL3 files. No allmon3.ini.
you need a regular installation of debian 12, and you need to follow the installation guide for installing asl3 for debian 12.
Installation from your instructions was largely uneventful where I was able to get my HamVoIP node working with Brandmeister. That said I though there was a problem with my install where I had to (re)link talkgroup 91 (global) for every transmission into that group. But then reading the DVSwitch group, it would appear that Brandmeister blocks nodes that are not "properly" configured such as an out of the box DVSwitch configuration. In short there is far more information that I didn't configure, which might be the issue. Then I went forward to configure my node for YSF, but I found I could only joint YSF reflectors by IP address and port. Using the reflector number did not work, even if YSFGateway was reading the reflector list file on the node. I joined the DVSwitch group on Google, but my post on this subject is moderated and the moderator apparently won't accept it thus my message never made it onto the group for others to read. Older messages on the DVSwitch group suggests YSFGateway can work with a reflector number by prepending "8" to the YSF reflector number. But others responded this isn't working similar to my experience. Finally I looked for the source code to DVSwitch but apparently it is not posted. But YSFGateway appears to come from the MMDVM project where perhaps it is used by DVSwitch unmodified. And if so then the command to YSFGateway to tune to a YSF reflector is not what DVSwitch is sending. That alone would explain the issue. But given the moderator is not accepting my message on this subject... In any case I think your efforts to show how DVSwitch can be used with an analog radio has value. Keep up the good work.
i followed this but i am unable to get data to move from DMR - YSF and analog
Explain more, saying that doesn't tell me the problem.
Good Stuff. Any way to access Dvswitch web UI on ASL3? thanks
Try ipaddress/index.php replace ipaddress with the ip of your dvswitch installtion. If it doesn't work then it doesn't work
I still gotta swtich my shari node to ASL.. Thanks for this !

You are one smart guy. 👍
I got a Motorola xts 3000 for like 89$ on eBay and it’s still works perfectly fine no missing parts and pixels my fav thing I like about it is that very durable radio and the military uses it and the police uses it and the battery lasts for days
You're putting out some great information here. For us Old Timers. Can you please slow it down a bit an just like in High School Match Classes Show all your work. Please no short cuts to your final answers. it is hard to follow when not seeing in the video and your just telling us commands. I get you have done this before on your node (we haven't). When trying to set it up it is taking longer here because I don't know "all the stuff." I'm having to watch your videos repeatedly just to follow along and catch what your saying. I'm even slowing down the UA-cam Play back and it is still taking bit. Is it possible to Zoom in on your text, or provide a Text Doc. of the command your using. I've expanded your Video's to full screen they are a bit hard to read.... Keep up the great work.
There is a doc in the description. If you don't know the basics on how linux and this software works you probably shouldn't be doing it, thi is some complicated stuff. If you have specific questions let me know. Soon I will be offering a product that is 100% preconfigured to work with this.
@@hamradionetworking i do know the basics of Linux and Hamvoip. and have DVSwitch up and running on multiple nodes. Just offering a bit of constructive feedback, from years as an Instructor teaching, in the Navy and in the public sector. If you slow down your cadance and use larger font , or zoom in a bit more. I believe it will help your product reach more people, without having to pause and rewind your videos .
@@thomasperry3317 You were just saying how you needed to slow down the video and rewind a bunch of times... I am going to release a new video that goes into more detail with better step by step instructions on allstar3 with dvswitch and multi modes once Steve gets dvswitch installable on asl3 easier.
@@hamradionetworking Awesome looking forward to it.
Good job...all about having fun.
You DO NOT have to use analog reflector to make this work, instead direct the USRP ports to default and use this software to change modes/talkgroups: github.com/VALER24/dvswitch_mode_switcher As long as you only have the ASL bridge connected at the bottom turn automute to FALSE in the json file so you don't have to toggle it every time you want to change modes. If you want DStar to work well and make all the other modes sound a little better invest in a ThumbDV stick with the AMBE3000 chip.
Very nice! Love my shari node!
