Goechala Trek in Sikkim is a famous high altitude trek in West Sikkim and is among India's top 10 hardest trekking destinations. As one proceeds in this trek, one will gain high elevations each day maximum at 16000 ft though nature will be at its wildest best form. The trek starts from Yuksom, the ancient capital of Sikkim and continue for 8 days of mesmerizing journey. When you reach the summit of GOECHA La surely you will get the closest possible view of the world's 3rd highest peak Mt.Kanchanjungha and you will be awestruck with the dangerous beauty. The Dzongri top 360 degree view, Kanchanjungha base camp view, the Sunrises, Some great highest Himalayan peaks, beautiful valleys, Rhododendron bloom, crystal clear Samiti Lake, camping in tent, one can get the true closeness of the nature in this beautiful yet dangerous trek. Photographers will benefit greatly throughout the months of October, November, and December for the variety of birds and flowers one can get throughout this trek in the midst of Kanchanjungha National Park. And if someone is Lucky enough, may get a chance to see Himalayan Monal and Red Panda also like we did.
Disclaimer this trek is not for everyone. Trekking is a great habit yet one should not mess with his physical ability. It's highly possible that one may experience AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness) and breathing problem. So pre-preparations are very much needed. Otherwise very good fitness and mental strength are two main things one badly needs to complete this trek.
The trek route is like this👇
Day 1- Yuksom to Sachen
Day 2- Sachen to Tshoka
Day 3- Tshoka to Dzongri via Phedang
Day 4- Dzongri top summit and trek to Thangsing
Day 5- Thangsing to Lamuney
Day 6- Goechala Summit and trek down to Kokchurang
Day 7- Kokchurang to Tshoka
Day 8- Tshoka to Yuksom
Best trekking months for this route are March to Mid May as the temperature is much warmer then. If you want to enjoy Rhododendron bloom in any place then this route is for you with maximum Rhododendron forests throughout your journey and April is the best month to enjoy the bloom..Also September to November months have another season for this trek and you will get the clearest sky from end of October to November. Though one will experience cooler breeze and below freezing point temperature in November.
