    1990-First place from beginning to end. Continued the Reds nine game World Series win streak. Great team. Pete probably had a lot of input getting that team together in the years he was there. Reds fan since 1967.

    That suspension robbed younger players of Pete’s wisdom and knowledge of the game. Truly a professional hitter and nothing got by him when it came to baseball. Gambling or not his records are 100% legitimate. Dozens of players steroids inflated records are still on the books and acknowledged but Pete’s records are not. Players and everyone else have been gambling since baseball started. MLB administration are hypocrites!

    Dibs, great show. You skipped over Fay Vincent who was between Selig and Giamatti and absolutely did not want Pete to be on the hof ballot.. Thanks for being a part of the greatest, nastiest bullpen trio in history! 1990 was a blast!

    Making gambling legal all across the board was bad for the country! The people I see gambling shouldn't be! Pete should have been put in with an asterisk while he was alive, period! Now everyone is getting a break! Come on! The best player ever not in the hall! I won't spend a dime there! In the seventies growing up he was everyone's hero! Didn't matter what team you liked!

    The HOF is keeping Pete out, not MLB. The HOF changed their rules to keep Pete out. Giamatti died 8 days after Rose was suspended. The HOF does not deserve Pete Rose.

    Maybe I'm wrong -- but I believe that if Rose had admitted RIGHT AWAY and apologized for betting on baseball, he would have been forgiven and inducted into the Hall during his lifetime. But after lying about it for FIFTEEN YEARS, and repeatedly so, well, I think he burned any possibility of reinstatement. All that said? Look at the current realm of professional (and collegiate!) sports. You can't turn on a Sunday morning sportstalk show without hearing about the spreads, and the picks against the spread. It's almost ALL focused on betting lines now.

    For young ball players today who don't know who Pete Rose was and what he was about when it came to playing baseball let me explain it to you this way, Pete Rose was the living embodiment of a "Hard 90". However he didn't expect his coach and the world to praise him for his Hard 90. He embodied that Hard 90 because it was what he and his teammates expected from him and everyone else on the team. In an era when hard, tough men played the game with determination, grit and guts, Pete Rose did that to the nth degree. In his day every player played with toughness and gave everything they had every single day, Pete Rose played tougher and harder and with more determination that all of them. He earned his way to stardom. He didn't show up to the big leagues with a shoe deal and an entourage. And that's saying something because he played at a time when if player didn't try to break up a double play, that player's own teammates would take them to task and maybe even swing a punch at them. Whatever he did off the field, what he did on the field speaks for itself. I take solace in the fact that Pete "Charlie Hustle" Rose and Shoeless Joe Jackson are standing by the batting cage getting Pete ready for his first game in the Real Big Leagues.

      If you only ever bet on your team to win then you deserve a special place in the Hall Of Fame, betting on yourself and fixing games is not the same... The Hall of Fame doesn't deserve to have Pete in it anyways, Cooperstown just like the crime syndicate known as MLB is a total sham

    • @bobjones8321
      @bobjones8321 Місяць тому

      @@bobjones8321 Will the Pitchers who used the sticky substances to improve spin rate be allowed in the HOF?? MLB has successfully blackballed the whistleblower and the issue has been completely swept under the rug, what a deal... MLB should have to pay the money they profited during the "steroid era" to the men they scapegoated... MLB was totally negligible, reaped all the profits, and came away totally unscathed....

    At 7:07 Rob states that Bart Giamatti passed away “about a year later…”. Actually, Mr. Giamatti passed away just 8 days after his historic press conference announcing Pete being declared permanently ineligible. That press conference was held on 8/24/89 and Mr. Giamatti suffered a massive fatal heart attack on 9/1/89-just 8 days later. And Pete’s response was less than gracious or respectful. Pete being Pete I guess… You nailed it though when you discussed the impact of Giamatti’s death on Rose’s chances of being reinstated. Fay Vincent, Bud Selig and now Rob Manfred will never waiver on this. With Pete’s passing it really doesn’t matter much now anyway as he never wanted in after his passing.

    Rob made a very good point about Pete's underdog story. I related to Pete growing up. I wasn't big, I wasn't fast, I wasn't real strong. But I LOVED sports...and I read everything I could to become a better athlete / player. Pete made me believe that it was possible. I worked my ass off. I never made the big leagues ( although, I was invited to several tryout camps ) BUT, I played College Baseball and Football on scholarship...and that ONLY happened because Pete showed me it was possible through sheer hard work and determination ! I'm gonna finish this with something that I've heard very few commentators speak about concerning Pete...the ONE record that meant more to him than anything ! Peter Edward Rose played in more winning games than ANY athlete in any team sport EVER....1,975...and isn't WINNING what it's all about ?
