"Hora Dance" by Murray Houllif is a great intermediate mallet solo that uses f harmonic minor and F major key signatures. It has good variety and it is a nice length for the intermediate level. This is one of many great solos I am planning to record for my students, and any percussionists, to reference when learning. Bingo! Nice job.
Have you heard of Thom Hannum’s duple check patterns? He had all the ways to subdivide 16ths in one beat written down for percussionists since the 80s or some other shit like that. He’s also got eighth-note triplet subdivisions covered on a separate check patterns sheet.
I have not, but am checking it out now. Thanks!
The R on 4 throws me
Yeah, sometimes can be challenging at first but helps with consistently playing that rhythm whenever you see it. Playing these rhythms with different stickings is also beneficial for overall control, as long as you are doing it on purpose. Thanks for watching and commenting! Lots more videos to come.
What’s this for?
Hi Leprechaun_168. This is for anyone looking to learn and practice common 16th note patterns, specifically the 16th-8th-16th combination in this video. Thanks for watching!
@ yup!
It’s 4+u not 4+a
Thanks for checking out the video! There are definitely a few different ways to count 16th note rhythms out there. I have it written as an "a" but you say it like "ah" or "uh". I have also heard 1 tee teh ta as another popular version.
There is superstitious
Stevie Wonder fan? I Wish is probably my favorite song and definitely check out his live version of "Spain".
Sounds like the Imperial March intro
Not really, the Imperial March has two triplets, this has none
You have the right idea, good ears! The official rhythm used in Imperial March will be coming in the future. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@Ntwobee You are definitely a Star Wars fan, nice! Yepp, the rhythm used in the Imperial March will be coming in the future. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I got the sheet music for imperial march
@@RobPoolnoodle Great piece of music! Thanks for watching.
Great simple lesson!
Thanks for the feedback and watching!
Need more of these shorts, its great practice
Awesome to hear and lots more to come!
Hi Blaine- from Jim, Cecilia and Alex. We moved back to MI in June from Aurora. Alex is in the marching band as a freshman playing bass 1. Hope you are doing well.
Hi Jim! Glad you are all doing well and good to hear Alex is rocking it in band.
Also works Great when practicing Double Bass 👍
Great to hear and thanks for watching!
Huh? What notes are these? I've only ever learned one instrument in my life, and barely. It's the Piano. I only went as far as learning staccato and legato. And that was I believe when I was 11. I hated learning musical instruments ever since bcz I always got a fever after my piano lesson. Idk why tho
Hi @flmis! This exercise deals with playing four 16th notes followed by three quarter notes. Each 16th note equals 1/4 of a beat so you can fit four 16th notes in a beat. Then each quarter note equals one beat so you can fit one quarter note per beat. Thanks for watching and commenting! Best of luck on your musical journey.
Where can we buy these steel pans? It's almost impossible to find them online....
I had mine built by Kyle Dunleavy out of Philadelphia. Check his website for more information. Dunleavypans.com
Why not just arrange for the common layouts for pans?
Hi numanuma20. This piece is written for common layouts/range of pans. Marked is the minimum range needed so you can easily tell if it fits your pans. Thanks for asking!
Good song ding pan well tuned trini man from Florida sounds good
Thanks Alvin! Kyle Dunleavy made the pan.
Very cool! Greetings, Chris!🥁
Thanks Chris!
Why do you have to write so specific ranges for each pan? Makes no sense?
Hi numanuma20. Are you referencing the ranges marked in the comments of this video? If so, I put the exact ranges of each part so anyone looking to possible play the piece can easily see if it will work with their pans. As you may know, the range of notes often changes from one pan builder to the next. You do not need the exact marked range, but must include the range of notes. Thanks for checking out the video!
Thank you sir.
Thank you SO much for posting this. I don't have my paper sheet music with me, but this is a good alternative. 🙏🙏🙏
Best of luck with the performance!
Damn!💪🏾💚⚙️
Yeah, that was a great year! The video quality does not do it justice.

Hey Blaine! Where did you get your steel drums? Ive been so interested the steel pan all the sudden
Hi Lucas! Hope you are doing well. My steel pans were made by Kyle Dunleavy who operates out of Pennsylvania.
Hello! That's really cool! I have to test those instruments! 🤗
Thanks! You definitely should.
