Fundamentals of Zone 22 - Hazardous Areas!
As per IEC Standards, the areas where explosive dusts may be present are categorized into three groups: Zone 20, Zone 21, and Zone 22. This animation is about Zone 22.
Zone 22 is defined as an area in which an explosive dust atmosphere, in the form of a cloud of dust in the air, is not likely to occur in normal operation but, if it does occur, will persist for a short period only. Ignition sources must be prevented during normal operation. Electrical and non-electrical equipment used in Zone 22 must not become a source of ignition in the form of hot surfaces or sparks.

As per IEC standards, the classified areas are categorized in three groups: Zone 0, Zone 1 and Zone 2. Zone 2 is a location in which explosive gas atmospheres are not likely to occur in normal operation and, if they do occur, they will exist for a short time only. Zone 2 includes the area adjacent to a Zone 1 location, from which explosive gas atmospheres could be communicated.

Zone 0 is s an area where an explosive gas-air mixture is continuously present or present for long time. Therefore, devices that can pose an ignition must be safe under fault or even normal conditions.
Fundamentals of Class II, Division 2 - Hazardous Areas!
Переглядів 1,6 тис.Рік тому
Class 2, Division 2 is defined as a location in which combustible dust may be suspended in the air as a result of infrequent malfunctioning of handling or processing equipment. In another words, under normal operating conditions, there would not be sufficient dust present to interfere with the operation of electrical or other equipment. It is unlikely that an explosive dust/air mixture will occ...

Getting IECEx Zone 2 Certified Products into the North American Market
Переглядів 259Рік тому
Electrical equipment to be used in a hazardous location must be designed so that there are no hot surfaces inside or outside each component and so that no arcing/sparking can occur. In other words, the equipment cannot become a source of ignition in such a location, and it must be certified as safe. The IEC Zone classification system is used to certify products as safe for use in the internatio...

Some locations are deemed “hazardous” due to the presence of explosive atmospheres. In order to ensure the safe installation of electrical products in these environments, they must comply with Standards that address their safety, and they must be certified as being in compliance. The Class-division system is used in North America to distinguish hazardous areas and the degree of hazard present. ...
Purging and Pressurization Protection Technique (Ex p) - Hazardous Locations!
Переглядів 3,9 тис.Рік тому
The purging and pressurization protection technique, known as “Ex p”, is used for electrical equipment to be installed and used in Zone 1, 2, 21 and 22 hazardous locations. This technique is commonly used to prevent ignition when electrical devices are installed in gas-explosive (Zone 1 and 2) or dust-explosive (Zone 21 and 22) environments. Purging and pressurization involves keeping the flamm...

Increased Safety, known as Ex e, is one of the protection techniques used for electrical equipment to prevent explosions in hazardous locations. This protection concept may only be used in hazardous locations that are Zone 1 and Zone 2 In this presentation we will discuss: • The fundamental principles of the increased safety protection technique • The technical safety Standards with which equip...
The Use Non electrical Equipment in Hazardous Locations
Переглядів 846Рік тому
It is well known that hazardous locations pose risks because of the presence of ignitable gas, dusts, or fibres. For this reason, many safety Standards and procedures govern electrical devices that are to be installed in those locations, to ensure that they do not become a source of ignition. Non-electrical equipment may also be sources of ignition or explosion. Mechanical equipment, because of...
Explosionproof VS Flameproof Protection Technique - Hazardous Areas!

One of the approaches used to protect electrical devices installed in hazardous locations is based on the principle of containing an explosion, should one take place, even under normal conditions, due to arcing or sparking. . There are two names given to the protection technique that contains the explosion: “explosionproof” and “flameproof”. For more details, please visit our website at website...

Hello, I am aware of IS CALCULATION concept. But for one loop only. Like BARRIER to JB to LT. But I am not sure how would be the process for IS like this case. BARRIER to JB to FIT to FE? How is The cable from FIT for FE considered in calculation?

Just in case somebody\s gonna have the same question like mine. I already got the answer! You'll have to perform another I.S calc for cable between FIT and FE. There should be an output parameter for the terminal of FIT.

Please take note that terminal bridge must not alterate the internal arrangement layout. You can't bunch more than 6 cores toghter. You can't use a single terminal strip to connect 2 wires. The maximum lenght of the leads inside the enclosure must not upper than the ecnlosure diagonal / 2. You may use Ex d or Ex e cablaggio glands. You gave to determinate if gland extras as ip washer are needed to assure an IP54 rating. Thete some thing to check (please refer to IEC 60079-14).
