Gottlieb Pinball Woodrails - Condition Is The Key - What To Look For As A Collector
When buying a woodrail, title is important, but it's all about condition. Like any antique there is a premium for original pristine condition, due to rarity and that a game is only original once. I may have missed a few things but these were some of the things I looked out for when buying. Remember the better the condition, the less wear on every part in the game. Madison Square Garden, featured in this video should run for another 70 years as it is such a low play example. Good luck in the search!

Gottlieb's Pinball Woodrails Ace High 1957
Переглядів 4 тис.7 років тому
2100 made but pretty hard to find as being a player's game and a very good one at that, players could beat this game on a regular basis. Operators were happy as it made them lots of money and players loved it. Hard to find games with good playfields for this reason. The targets are addictive as even though you can get good control of the ball, it is still hard to hit them. That said, if this ga...
Gottlieb's Pinball Woodrails Sweet Add A Line 1955 Ultimate Jackpot
Переглядів 1,4 тис.7 років тому
This is as close Gottlieb came to making a Bingo which was a gambling game with huge cash prizes. Gambling laws ensured this game was a one off so it has a unique place in pinball history. The biggest single jackpot in Gottlieb pinball history. Win an amazing 26 replays/specials in one shot and see the credit wheel max out. Hear the knocker going off like a machine gun 26 times. Talk about Pavl...
Gottlieb's 1955 Sweet Add A Line Super Jackpot 26 Specials
Переглядів 2957 років тому
This is it! Gottlieb's equivalent of a Bingo. This game has the biggest single jackpot in Gottlieb pinball history. Complete the game and win an amazing 26 specials. Go to the bar, cash in and walk round with a smile on your face for the rest of the day! This game is super hard to find and even more so in good condition as it drew players like no other game. Who wouldn't want to try and win suc...
Gottlieb's Pinball Woodrails Sluggin Champ 1955

A hugely popular game and theme. A game that can be brutally short and then next game, player cashes in with a nice win. I couldn't manage that for the video! Jackpot of 6 specials for collecting all the teams and dropping into the gobble holes. The RBI scoring system is superb as the game is never over as a good final ball, player can go from zero to hero!

Elvis playing the game. And the horseshoe lightshow.
Gottlieb's Pinball Woodrails Diamond Lill 1954

Reverse flippers and this is a true players game. Lots of nudging required. Beautiful lightshow with the inner loop. Unique game in that there just isn't another game that plays anything like it. 700 made so not many left. Made famous as there is a picture of Elvis Presley playing a Diamond Lill. A 1 in 700 chance it was this game!
Gottlieb's Pinball Woodrails Dragonette 1954
Переглядів 2,1 тис.7 років тому
One of the all time classic games. Stunning Royal Parker artwork and a unique Wayne Neyens design. Only 950 made. Game is based on the TV series Dragnet and is a spoof of that. The girl in the backglass is supposedly Jessica Dragonette who was a singer in the 1950's. She attended some of the trade shows when Gottlieb was promoting the game. Another multiple ways to win game - 5 different ways a...
Gottlieb's Pinball Woodrails Mystic Marvel 1954
Переглядів 3,1 тис.7 років тому
A classic Gottlieb Woodrail. A really fun game that is a bit more generous when it comes to winning as it is easy to collect the cards at the bottom of the playfield to light the first special. Typical Gottlieb multiple ways to win as a player ALWAYS feels close to winning on this game. Apparently when this game was on location, it earned operators a fortune and I can see why. The best earners ...
Gottlieb's Pinballs Woodrails Lovely Lucy 1954 Carry Over Feature
Переглядів 2447 років тому
A great feature and a nice cracker jack sound as a player gets lucky and wins the 5 special jackpot. Lucy also is lit on the backglass. Something about this game in that I keep playing it, despite those 6 gobble holes of doom! I love Lucy I guess.
Gottlieb's Pinball Woodrails Lovely Lucy 1954
Переглядів 8887 років тому
This was Gottlieb's version of 'I Love Lucy' with Lucille Ball on the backglass. Design by Wayne Neyens. The game has marbled pop bumpers and looks stunning in a dark room. It is so evocative of an era long gone now. As for the game, gobble, gobble, gobble! So many gobble holes. The game is super hard because of them. Main strategy is to unlight the pop bumpers three consecutive times but this ...
Gottlieb's Pinball Woodrails Sunshine 1958
Переглядів 1,7 тис.7 років тому
One of only 4 games to have the elusive rating system. A game can never get boring while GENIUS remains unattained.... as it does now! This title has the rollover special in that complete white and red numbers, you light the rollover special. This alternates between red and white. Super hard to get though. Lighting pop bumpers is key to a good millions score.
Gottlieb's Pinball Woodrails Marble Queen 1953
Переглядів 3,3 тис.7 років тому
This is one of the true classics, one of the best pinball games ever produced. Superb Roy Parker artwork of a time long gone. A stunning Wayne Neyens Design. Just 1000 made. Very hard game to find, especially all original. Even harder to find the original marbles and marbled globes. 5 ways to win keeps every game interesting. With the middle pop bumper placed where it is, all sorts of crazy sav...
Gottlieb's Pinball Woodrails Coronation 1952

Game was released in anticipation of the crowning of Queen Elizabeth II. Design by Wayne Neyens. Beautiful Roy Parker artwork. This game has original backglass, and original marbled pop bumper caps. Game is another wonderful example of the multiple ways to win. One of the classics. A trap hole game.

I assume this pinball was to cash in on Lucile Ball's popular "I love Lucy' TV show? Any lawsuits??
Cost to play .10

in some ways similar to Gypsy Queen.
Simon, are you on Pinball Info (I'm assuming you're in the UK)? Really fancy another woodrail and wondered how you got hold of all of these
If I were young I would make it my mission to learn how to restore these beautiful machines. I love all EM Gottliebs. I also love Bally Bingo that would let you cash out. I played religiously in South Carolina in my youth. The gambling factor is what made the latter exciting. I wish casinos would bring them back, I’d be there for sure.
The amount of Gottlieb games seems endless.
OMG, it’s gorgeous.
Didnt this game come with wooden legs , not metal legs???
Very dynamis and funny game.
I played one for the first time recently and I have to say I really enjoyed it right from the start.
All I can hear in that segment is 'luck/skill ratio'. Meaning this game is incredibly random due to gobble holes. It could mean a novice beating a world champion!
My dear Simon Paul: I would like to know who is the "Jordan" that you mention from minute 0:56 to minute 01:12 You know, it's because of the project I'm doing for Future Pinball. Muchas gracias.
Fantastic game, really is. Unfortunately recently sold as too many games, too little space...
Really nice Ace High, thanks for showing. This game wouldn't be for sale?
Go to IPBD and look at pictures - there is a pic of the ruleset. I don't own the game anymore unfortunately as it really is a unique game.
Muchas gracias Simon Paul.
I am looking for the instrucctions of the game for a Future Pinball recreation.
Simon - If you could only have either Mystic Marvel or Sweet Add-A-Line, which would it be?
Simon - If you could only have either Mystic Marvel or Sweet Add-A-Line, which would it be?
Tough choice but probably Sweet Add-A-Line because of the 26 specials jackpot feature. MM is a real fun game though.
Thanks for all of your evocative, poetic videos!
It's a great game and probably only a handful of players ever got the 26 credit jackpot!
We had this game in our basement in the 60's and 70's! It wasn't in the greatest shape but worked and was a lot of fun to play.
Simom, Right, rollover games are great, Gypsy Queen, Sweet add a line, Rack a ball, I too like the points, gobble holes, and big wins. Keep flippin !
I'm looking to purchase one if anyone has a decent one for sale. Thank you
This has to be the second best Roy Parker glass, the first being "Knockout". I've never seen a Dragonette but I had a Knockout. Bought in LA for $500 and a drive of about 800 miles. Sold about 15 years later for $6200 on ebay. Some guy in Illinois won and had it shipped via a national moving co. They were going to shrink wrap it which would absolutey destroy the paint. I wrapped it with a soft blanket and it arrived as sent. At the time there were NO Kockouts available anywhere.
Never lucky enough to own a Knock Out. Always fun going on road trips to pick up games!
@@simonpaul2601 I went all the way to San Luis Obispo for a GiGi and Angels Camp for a 5,000 game private owned King of Diamonds for $500. I'm down to three, Slick Chick, Rocketship (the biggest sleeper woodrail made, what a game) and Queen of Diamonds. The Queen has 8600 games, looks new except for the backglass . Funny how some glasses are bulletproof and others always look like shit.
@@noneofyourbusiness4622 Great to find real low play games as they are super rare!
I have one of these - there can't be many left. Truly one of the best old-school pinballs there is.
Sorry about your stroke...at least it would seem that way, since you apparently can't use your right hand to flip.
All Gottlieb 50's games were USA exclusively. Hardly any got to the UK. Pop bumpers are original to game and correct Gottlieb ones.
That has very stout bumpers for a game from that era. Was that game only released in Britain?
Please stop mumbling.
Hard to see in portrait mode, better to film in landscape mode.
Around 4.4 degrees. Must have re-built pop bumpers and flippers as well.
I believe if the bottom of the cabinet is level then the incline will be as designed.
Simon, This is a great game. One key to beating it on score is to try to get the Queens on each side early to light the alternating 100,000s on the kickers. Keep Flippin !
Out of curiosity, what incline do you set your games up at? Getting my first gottlieb woodrail working but it doesn't play nearly as nicely as yours do!
Hi, yes UK based. I have owned games of all eras, but Gottlieb woodrails have a charm all of their own and they are not easy to beat, especially maxing out the scores. Will do some more vids soon hopefully!
Hi Simon, only discovered your videos today and I've been collecting for 46 years! You have some great games there in beautiful condition. I too love the early woodrails. You're English, are you in the UK as I can't understand how how wouldn't have heard of you before? Thanks - Phil
You suck at pinball.
so nice !
Speak UP, Mumbles!
so nice...really good old pinball
Thanks. Don't have as many as I used to. I will make a 'what to look out for condition wise' video in the next week or so, as there is such a difference between a project game and a genuine pristine survivor.
Good that people can see how they play when set up decent. Diamond Lil is pure skill, lots of nudging. Hard but rewarding!
Why don’t you post videos any longer. These are the best vids on wood rails I’ve seen.
Late to the party here, but thank you for these videos! love the woodrails.. and it is great to see someone play properly set up machines! Thank you!
Some of the best games ever made. Still fun to play in 2021! Never played one on location - just read about them and started collecting a few. Great rulesets with multiple ways to win.
Outlined against a very dark room, the Four Horsemen play again.
I played this machine back in the 50's.
Great videos of these old gems. Thanks for putting videos together!
