Pouring the Perfect Floor for Our DREAM Home! | Ep05
It’s a massive milestone for the build - getting the floor slab poured! With drainage all signed off by building control, we dive straight into the prep work. From laying 100mm of hardcore and a sand blinding layer to carefully installing the damp-proof membrane (DPM) to protect against moisture and radon, everything is coming together.
The concrete lorries arrive, and it's a race against the clock to lay the last section of DPM as the pour begins! Watch as we use the digger to get the concrete exactly where we need it, power float the slab for a rock-solid finish, and use a magi screed trowel to give the garage a perfect surface. It’s all hands on deck to pour the foundation for our dream home!

Why no sand level wouldn't the type 1 put holes un the plastic
@@davidbrook5823 yes mate, there is a layer of sand over the type1 👍
Need a radon sump for a radon barrier
Only if you’re in a high radon area. This site isn’t.
@UnderwoodHomes for the sake of a length of pipe and a sump why not put one in a have the peace of mind ,I put 2 in every house regardless, especially when you've done 95% of the work already by doing a great job taping up the radon barrier.
@@John316OBrian-cm4fj il take it on board mate, might be worth doing another time 👍. We do a radon search on the site, then building control/architects specify the radon method.
Go on mate💪💪
@@IzzytheBricky Cheers bud 🤙🤙
For you whats the cost difference betweenTrench fill vs foundation blockwork? Do you save enough in labour cost to cover the additional concrete. Its a nice luxury if someone else is paying for it
@@Thetopbanana1 I could have probably got away with 300mm less of concrete in those footings. In that case it would have probably been cheaper to do the extra 300mm in blockwork. Then I would have had to have structural calcs on the depth of the concrete etc which costs money too, so it’s hard to say overall which one would have been cheaper. It is nice to work off full trench though 👌
Did you do a cost comparison between concrete slab and block and beam. Surprised to see a slab on a plot this big
@@frankielouise5138 I would only usually use block and beam on a footing that had a lot of ground to build up for a poured slab. I don’t think there loads in it cost wise if it’s BandB vs a poured slab, at least a slab is poured and done in a few hours.
Thank you so much for your video show , proud of you Underwoodhome , I just watching UA-cam videos search all the time as you build your home by yourself as birds building their nest , we have culture as if a man show build our home by ourself as a bird but when we moved to western countries we face so many difficulty with lot of policy , we can not build our home by ourself as our regional mother country , hopefully when you or others your friends build home by yourself how to buy land step by step doing through the policy can build our home by ourself .
@@maywah1276 wow that’s great, I’m glad you like the videos. Keep watching and you will see the whole house. It’s really difficult getting a house through planning and then actually being able to build what you wanted. Thanks for the comment 👍👍👍
How much did it cost?
@@tripperhappy732 how much do what cost mate?
@@UnderwoodHomes How much did they charge you for the concrete?
@ I can’t remember exactly now mate, I seem to remember that whole day costing about £12k 🤦🏼
Why didn’t you get a concrete pump for the sake of 350 quid
@@frankielouise5138 Hi Frankie, yeah a concrete pump would have been a lot easier. Would have cost about £1k though. We could get the lorries close enough in most places so it wasn’t to bad.
Cracking video mate! The house looks beautiful what ur building mate! Love the snap cabbin😂💪
@@IzzytheBricky Thanks mate, appreciate that! Yes, only the finest welfare units on my jobs 😅
Why are you using four in solids?
@@smiffersmaffer instead of what mate? Trench blocks?
Here in Utah, they have a resort built on top of an old mine... and one of the rooms has a bathroom hovering over an actual mine shaft. It's wild. I used to do I.T. work there, and they showed it to me once.
@@chadbowcut3901 mate that’s awesome, I bet it’s hard to relax when your sat on that toilet 😂🤦🏼
Awesome video mate! Must ask, what Mic you using?
@@IzzytheBricky Thanks bud, I’m pretty sure it’s one of these www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0BQLB596V/ref=twister_B0DCKBJQB2?_encoding=UTF8&th=1. You need an extra adapter thing if you want to use it with a GoPro. Luckily the chap who does my filming sorts it. I don’t have a clue really 😂🤦🏼

Damn yall over there in the uk have some of the shittiest constructions I’ve seen done and how in organized and dirty the jobs site are is absolutely ridiculous
Why didn't you put damp tray behind insulation
You can do it both ways, some people prefer the tray under the inso. This is the way Iv always done it. It creates an easier route for any moisture to hit the tray and the weep vents 👍
Also, the insulation fits the wall ties doing it this way.
Profiles are great and easy Block splitter also will make it easier for you than a hammer and bolster
