Dyeing leather with shaving Cream
Переглядів 2 тис.3 роки тому
This was a quick project to test how it would turn out. In the end, I liked the result. This was my second try. My first one ended badly. A few tips: 1.) make sure all the edges of the shaving cream have dye and press down enough so all leather gets covered. 2.) do not use your hand/finger to make the swirls in the shaving cream. Use a small pencil, side of a popsicle stick etch. 3.) be careful...

    is that paint or resin in the little squeeze bottle ?

    • @FrontierDesigns
      @FrontierDesigns 4 місяці тому

      It’s paint in this one. I just spray seal them when done. Epoxy does work with the same bottles.

      @FrontierDesigns 7 місяців тому

      The green paint I’m using is a craft paint from Walmart. It’s Apple Barrel True Green paint. I buy these paints because of how well they burn. If you’re going to use epoxy on them, put a couple coats of polycrylic on first to seal the paint.

    how long did you wait before placing the brass in the mold?

    • @FrontierDesigns
      @FrontierDesigns Рік тому

      I put mine in a little too early in this video but I would wait until the first clear layer is almost hard and place them in so they don’t shift during the next pour.

      Btw how do you get the state cut out

    • @FrontierDesigns
      @FrontierDesigns 2 роки тому

      I went on google, typed in “Minnesota template” and then saved the image in my pictures, then transferred the image to Microsoft Excel and sized it to 17” then printed it off. You’ll have to cut the pages and tape the image together as it will print out on multiple pages. Then I used spray adhesive to attach it to a piece of wood, cut, sanded, and kept that piece as my template for all of them that I’ve made.

    Did you wait for the clear resin to set before pouring the coloured resin?

    • @FrontierDesigns
      @FrontierDesigns 2 роки тому

      I waited until it was ALMOST cured fully because I wanted the casings to set before I poured the next batch so they wouldn’t float around.

      Thanks for your coomment (however I deleted the other one as this is not your video)! TB builds and Cap Customs were my inspiration from this project. However, I just watched your video and your coasters came out awesome. You may have very well been the inspiration for some of the UA-cam builds from your video. Great video to inspire people to create!

    Love it...are both glue and nails needed? Are the nails noticeable?

    • @FrontierDesigns
      @FrontierDesigns 3 роки тому

      The nails are barely noticeable with the brown and green but with the strips that didn’t have color, it was very noticeable. That’s why I switched to superglue and used activator so it would set right away. I would recommend using glue on all pieces.

    For the life of me I cannot get my miter saw to render nice square frames. I'm thinking the trick is where you stacked the two pieces on top of each other when you cut and then flipped the ends over. I may have to go back and revisit this.

    • @FrontierDesigns
      @FrontierDesigns 3 роки тому

      Just make sure you hold them down tight together so they don’t shift when you bring the saw down. One of those band clamps really helps bring the corners together tight as well.

    The kids have been after me to make a set of these. Thanks. Also very interested in that shelving unit behind you at the beginning of the video.

    • @FrontierDesigns
      @FrontierDesigns 3 роки тому

      That shelving in the back was the beginning stages of a “mobile pantry” for our kitchen. We don’t have a lot of space in there so I made that to help with canned goods etch. Video will be coming out in a couple weeks. Good luck with your cornhole build!
