Short simple intro to me and my passion of motorcycles, this just shows the off-road and adventure shots but spent many years on road bikes too. YZ250 two stroke, YZ450FX, XR650R, XR650L (Set up for adventure riding) and WR450F and many before 😄✊

    I just test rode a 2008 WR450F today. It has HILARIOUS POWER. As in HOOLIGAN amounts of power. Absolutely ridiculous fun. Gets very hot quickly though, even with a fan installed. In addition, I also rode a WR250, back-to-back. The 250 felt like it could the same things and more than the 450, although albeit with much less power, but still very fun also. I'm torn between the 2 as they're both the same price. Hilarious, hooliganish fun at the expense of fine control in the tight, stuff? Or sure-fire all-around weapon, at the expense of high-speeds on the road (and fast trails)?

    • @motomark33
      @motomark33 2 роки тому

      Both great bikes mate. In my opinion it comes down to type of rider you are. As you say 250 can do everything the 450 can but if you prefer fewer gear changes and lugging the motor with great power through the rev range it’s the 450. If you don’t mind shifting more and using more revs the 250 will be great. Also the 450 will wear you out quicker so if you like riding all day maybe 250. In the tight stuff the 450 can work with good throttle and clutch but will be less forgiving if you get it wrong and again tire you out quicker. If tight stuff all day is your thing, I would consider a 300 two stroke. Good luck mate.

    • @motomark33
      @motomark33 2 роки тому

      Hey Marcio, I am really happy with it, ideally would have a 300 in addition (how nice would that be). I have never wanted anything but the 450 in Glasshouse but honestly still exploring that place. The only place I have wanted a 300 is riding In Amamoor with my mate that looks for gnarly stuff (doing pivot turns and finding traction on off camber big slippery hills) and the only reason then is a little bit weight but mostly clutch control and avoiding flame outs. I am still working with maps to see if I can get ride if the flame outs though so will see. Bike lugs brilliantly and can really change low down character with the tuner app to smooth out throttle response. Thing is I am all up for a challenging climb but don’t really want the whole ride to be that hard enduro style 1st and 2nd gear only. If I did I would get the 300 for sure. For me 3rd gear flowing with some tough challenges is my happy place and where the WR shines, and I wouldn’t have any other bike in this scenario. My most recent video was an organised ride on private land, the best thing is traffic is one way so you can push and it was awesome. I will be looking to do some more of these events. Any hope that helps. 👍✊

    • @ozbiker5311
      @ozbiker5311 2 роки тому

      Hi Mark sure did than man what do you mean about flame outs - (stalling) ? I used to do pretty gnarly stuff But over it a bit you would ride for 40min and do 4 km after a while it becomes, fk I just want to ride Also me NOT being graham jarvis the bike would get bashed about and so would I I cant do it anymore FK my knee 👨‍🦯doing it big time and at 59 I still think Im 21 🤣🤣 which is a good thing but have to watch my knee now I like the same sort of riding you where doing a bit of everything nothing 2 out there but heaps more fun I think Have you done any mods bike?? like the box and throttle with that screw and sprocket ?? I was thinking doing the air box and screw mod and going down 1 tooth on the front to give it more low down punch ?? not sure about the last one sprocket talk soon Marcio

    • @motomark33
      @motomark33 2 роки тому

      @@ozbiker5311 Hey Marcio, First off so awesome to hear you still at it dude 👍✊ Flame outs are essentially stalls but to be more specific they are rolling stalls, happens when you are moving slow and just get on the gas and don’t have enough revs and bike stalls and back wheel locks up. It’s annoying because body position is forward anticipating acceleration and you get the opposite 😁. Only happens when I start getting tired in gnarly stuff when clutch hand is fading. Mods wise. I have gone overboard in the past on bikes and decided to keep it fairly simple now. Saves weight and I don’t think a lot of the stuff I had before is needed. Kept the stock sump guard and hand guards, benefits to not having wrap around hand guards is less risk to hurting a wrist. It has a full pipe, taller seat for easier transition seated to standing, Steg Pegz, GTYR radiator braces and guards. And go faster graphics 😂😂 and will probably put tubliss in the rear when I change the tyre and mouse in the front. If you mean uncorking it by air box and screw mod then yes. (Also need to open pipe but as I said I have completely new pipe.) I would NOT go down a tooth on front sprocket, it’s already got loads of low down punch. Almost too much. Also I would hate shorter gears. If anything I would try a one tooth bigger front sprocket to make gears a bit longer. The bike has loads of power and a really low first gear ratio and would easily handle it. Also the tuner really makes a difference. I have been playing with it to soften it in first 1/4 throttle and works great and helps with traction as I come on to throttle. Anyway mate. Lots there. Hope it helps and I see you out there. Mark

    is that the etrex 22x? how do you find it for navigation? screen and details good enough to follow? or do you mainly use it to log where youve been ?

      Yeah, I just it to track rides and log waypoints so I can ride an area and know where trails start and end, works pretty well, bigger screen would be better of course but it all compromise. It doesn'tget in my way at all and for price I am happy with it.

    Great video mate. Iam looking at getting a new WR450F this year. What’s the fuel range and service intervals like?

    • @motomark33
      @motomark33 2 роки тому

      Thanks mate, obviously depends on how heavy on the throttle, I reckon I could get 100kms or so, service again is dependant, I find service intervals are more for road riding, for dirt I generally do air filter when needed but probably every 3 rides or so but could do it after 1 ride if I sat in a lot of dust... Oil is generally every 8-10 hours, its super easy to do.. It's a Yamaha though, I bet you could stretch that out significantly and would be okay, super tough and reliable bikes.

      Hey Steve, I have ridden a couple of KTM's (500 and 450), both had some $'s spent on setting them up (especially suspension) but were great to ride. I find the Yamie feels more lively and has more punch (or snap) especially low down, the KTM's seemed more linear (Calm) build of power (especially the 500), both still got loads but I prefer the Yamaha. Suspension on the Yamaha is awesome too, at least for me. I love the fact that Yamaha is ready to roll as is, everyone I know who has a KTM or Husky does the suspension ($'s) at a minimum. What do you ride? Ever been to Utah? Some great trails out there. Mark

      @@motomark33 Hey, Mark, I have been out of riding for 10 plus years (Family). I'm a former enduro racer. My last bike was a ktm exc 400. Nice bike. It had the calm power band like the 500 you described. Now I'm think of getting the ktm 500 or the Yamaha 450. I'm intrigued by the Yamaha because of its modern build. The Yamaha is about 10 pounds heavier than the ktm. Do you feel that or does the gas tank positioning hide the extra weight? Does the air intake sound bother you at all. The Yamaha seems very flickable for a 450...it that the case?. I have not ridden Utah but I did ride the Colorado 500 some years back. It was beautiful. I love it but west! Steve from Ohio. I did live in Steamboat springs Colorado for a time but back in Ohio now. Thanks!

    • @motomark33
      @motomark33 2 роки тому

      @@stevenburton7922 I do find the Yamaha very flickable but also very stable and predictable at speed. I had a YZ450FX when I was in Utah and did the Idaho 100 (you probably know it) and it was the perfect bike for it. (for me). Its why I got the WR450F when I got to Australia (you have to be road legal in Australia to ride on public land). The air intake has never bothered me... if you can a find someone renting out bikes and you can get one for the day it would probably be worth it, that's what I did way back and never looked back.

    Would you recommend this bike for a beginner? The most I’ve ridden is a 125 pit bike and a bit on a yz250

    • @motomark33
      @motomark33 2 роки тому

      Hey Thomas, it depends on what you are planning to ride, may be difficult to answer if you are just starting out and really I don't think its a good beginner bike. It has a lot of power and small throttle openings make a big difference so its really important to have good throttle and clutch control when riding single track or anything challenging. Trouble is when starting out a lot of things are challenging 😄, and it's easy to fall behind the bike and grab throttle by mistake and this bike is not forgiving, none of the 450's will be in my opinion. I think the stock suspension on WR is awesome (at least for me) and the bike chases and set up works well again for me. If you have spent some time on the YZ250 the question is if you like the two stroke or want the 4 stroke, both have benefits and I have had both but am quicker on the 4 stroke... I think a great bike to start on that will take you a really long way is the WR250F (2016 or later). I hope that helps..
